  1. So who is entering this year? I think Wadey did a subject on this a ittle bit back but thought u would just find out the latest. i just did my entry tonight, cant wait, first time for me! i dont have particularly high hopes of taking it out but you gotta be in it to win it! so, who on here will i be up against???
  2. launched early with the missus on Saturday morning planning on chasing some snapper early then heading out for some whiting once the sun was up. we got to the snapper spot, set our lines and sat down to wait. bout an hour passed with us checking and changing baits then zzzzzzz off screams my rod. i was on for about 30 seconds then the fish spat the hook. i was spewing coz it felt like a half decent fish but i spose i will never know now after that we headed south of Whyalla chasing whiting. we drifted around and pulled a few then we hit a school so i threw down the anchor and we ended up wit
  3. Terez and Stella is what i have got. dont skimp out when chasing those fish, u dont want ur gear to let u down
  4. My mate and i are going to drive from Whyalla to Lincoln on Saturday and were just after some general advice on some areas for fishing that might be available to us. It will be landbased and we dont mind doing a bit of driving for a beach session somewhere. We are both newbies to the area so not really sure where to start. Our gear ranges from heavy to light and we have beach rods etc. we were hoping to catch some Salmon if they are around yet (heard that there were a few at Convention Beach at the moment?), salmon trout (i have heard the Lincoln Wharf is fairly reliable for them?) and maybe fl
  5. they absolutely love my Sephia squid jag, i always see them following it and if i pause it most of the time they will have a go at it. The bastards destroy the cloth on it
  6. i threw one back that had died during the unhooking process and it was just floating on the surface next to the boat and a squid surfaced and grabbed it. i was pretty surprised.on a side note, are the puffers we get in south australia poisonous to touch? i have always treated them as poisonous but i dont actually know if they are
  7. Nev mine is a 2 piece and it is good as gold, i think i have shown it to ya. i would be very happy to say that they are of a very high qualith
  8. anything from it you feel like sharing force?
  9. good point pauly, i mainly use my gear off the rocks so sand isn't really an issue but on the beach that makes sense
  10. i have a Snyder Glass as well, it is an absolute beast, its probably a bit over the top if u r going to be catching mainly schoolies and such but if u r going to put in the hours chasing a 50lb+ Mully or big Snapper (eh Nev ) u cant go past a Snyder Glass IMO. i think i paid about $230ish for mine, worth every centthe reel i have on my Snyder Glass is a Fin Nor Offshore Spin 9500, i have about 400m (or there abouts) of 30lb mono on it. that also is around $200. cant fault it though, i dont treat it very nicely and it is still in perfect working order. i also have a Shimano baitrunnuer 6500b a
  11. open to interpretation i think. any lawyers a member here
  12. if this guy actually does have some info to offer (and looking at his pics i have no doubt that he has indeed sussed snapper fishing, in his local area anyway) he should write a book about it. i would be more than willing to pay like $30 or whatever to read about what he has figured out, especially given that it is south australian snapper he is talking about as opposed to Steve Cooper who wrote a book about snapper on the east coast (which i have).$500 for his course is ridiculous though in my opinion, i agree with Crusher, i reckon i would be willing to pay that sort of money for a couple of
  13. anyone done this course he offers? or, is Wayne Smith a member of this site?  im going to give some of what he says in the article a go today, hopefully we will get our bag of Snapper!

  15. my mate and I were planning to go for a fish off of the rocks at Black Point near Whyalla on Saturday night. The tide change was at about 2am so my mate rocked up at about 11:30. It was chuffing pretty hard so before making the drive all the way out to Black Point we thought we would pop down the foreshore and suss the conditions, given that it was bang on a new moon we were reluctant to stand on the rocks with no moonlight and 2.5m+ chop crashing in at our feet  upon arrival at the foreshore we both decided that i was a bit rough to bother but whilst down there decided to check the fish
  16. does anyone here use a bit of superglue on there braid to leader knots? i haven't tried it but have heard that it helps strengthen the knot? i was a little worried it might melt the leader or something, im not sure how superglue works, whether its like conduit glue and would melt the leader or not? anyone have experience with this? (sorry to hijack the thread but i think it is semi relevant? )
  17. yep thats the one. that article Del posted said it was the first conviction for killing a white shark in South Africa and to there knowledge the first worldwide so they obviously didnt hear about the incident here in Whyalla
  18. I know who ur talking about, they were catching them, chainsawing the heads off and selling the teeth yes? cant remember what fine they got but fairly sure it was reasonably severe
  19. i am going in it, not holding my breath but am entering none the less, ur going in it as well yes Wadey? can u enter as an individual and a team, i been meaning to go down the tackle shop and find out exactly how it works, this being my first comp
  20. yep im keen for a hoodie or 2 and a few Tshirts as well. i agree with Wadey in that i would like to see the strikehook fish with a hook (aarons profile pic) on the hoodie and Tshirt, would wear that proudly. im sure Bjorn will let us know whats going on with it as it happens
  21. haha spewing. whenever i buy Modern Fishing it comes with that action and adventure one as well, i always throw it, i read it once not a fan of it
  22. i normally buy SA Angler, Wildcoast and Modern Fishing plus a few others if they catch my eye. even though i dont normally do the type of fishing they generally write about (light line, lures, gamefishing, freshwater and tropical) i still like to read about it. i caught a squid on a vibe i got free with an issue of Modern Fishing so i was pretty happy with that. but to answer ur question, im not sure of the readership statistics lol :cheer:
  23. Drove past the water yesterday whilst at work and thought golly, looks good so as soon as i got home hooked the boat up, sorted the rods and the missus and away we went. Launched and went maybe 1km from the Whyalla ramp straight out. Set up three drifts over promising looking bottom and ended up with 6 squid. Then decided to drop the anchor to try for Tommies as i had heard there were some around. Threw out a bottle of tuna oil and set a burley bucket as well. We could see fish jumping in the slick for about 50m behind the boat. Sent out the floats and we ended up with 22 lovely tommies and 2
