  1. i have asked at the tackle shop and he reckons that sharks are fairly abundant in summer, hammers and bronzies. i got a shimano terez 40-80lb rod and a stella 10000 spooled with 65lb braid so i reckon i should be able to handle a reasonable sized shark should one come my way. i also got a Fin Nor offshore 9500 spooled with 450m (or yards, i cant remember, plenty either way) of 30lb mono) which i will match to my Tcurve Deep Jig 200 rod.i will have to keep pestering Wes down the tackle shop, hopefully he will prod me in the right direction. was reading an old SA Angler and came across a great a
  2. i been using my Snapper rod for squid lately, 30lb braid with a rods length of 50lb mono leader with a crane swivel tied to the end. i do most of my squidding on a boat drifting around and havent had any dramas with them not taking it. i spose that FC might help landbased when combined with a quality jag. i like the berkley vanish as well, i have that in line up to 20lb, ne4ver had a drama with it. i think that its not as important in squidding as it is when chasing timid bream or whatever, if a squid is around and hungry he will eat ur jag for sure
  3. I have decided to do some shark fishing this summer. having never targeted them i thought i would ask how others go about it. i will be on a boat to target them 90% of the time.is there any sort of area that i shoud target ie water depth, bottom features etc. i live in Whyalla but im sure the principles of shark fishing would apply anywherecheers.
  4. we havent got a permit so we were just going to go to the dog fence and try our luck there. this will be our first trip so more of a scouting out of the area and seeing what its all about that way. once we have a bit more of an idea of the area and that we will book a site for the next trip
  5. thank you very much Knackers, some very handy hints there
  6. yep that pretty much what we figured GDK, we will just cram it all in, should be right i reckon. :woohoo: :woohoo:
  7. i have a Snyder Glass Fish Striker MT8144 on which i have a Shimano baitrunner 6500b spooled with 30lb mono. im going to buy another spool and put 50lb braid on it as well. Im looking for a lighter surf rod that can still handle a big mulloway but would be good for throwing big metal slugs and the like around. any suggestions??im looking at buying a bigger spin reel to put on the snyder glass and chucking the baitrunner onto the lighter rod. the reel i am looking at is one of those big Fin Nor offshore reels, anyone used these? i hear they are pretty good. any other reels i should be looking a
  8. yea that was pretty much how we were going to do it i reckon. we should be able to get what we need in, we figured a trailer would be a pain in the bum but wanted to see what everyone else usually do
  9. do those of you who have made the trip normally take a trailer? we have a land rover and we are going to remove the rear seats but still not sure we are going to have the room for everything

  12. cheers GDK, i wouldnt have thought that the Genny would make that difference but can see the logic, we have a land rover and a trailer so i reckon that we should get everything that we need in that. i dont want to be unprepared but i figure s long s we got fuel, food and water, fishing gear and a reliable car we should be right
  13. cheers AFF, that list will help alot and good idea with the baby wipes. how did u guys go wen u went, did u get any mullies? csn u recommend any beaches? :f
  14. This is probably a topic that has been raised before but i am planning a trip to the far west coast to chase mulloway for a week towards the end of next month. i understand that you need permits to fish from some of the beaches or enter certain areas? does anyone know anything about how to obtain them? I would also be interested in hearing from other people who have done a trip like this what sort of gear they took with them. :f
  15. throw them in jail i reckon. also raise the size limit to at least let them get one lot of babies out as well :f :f :f
  16. done, good luck, sounds like a really interesting project,
  17. yea cheers, i think the reason that it seems im running outa room is that i have been keeping them in my tackle bag along with all my other gear because i have never had too many but now i am starting to get alot i will have to keep them seperate from the rest of my gear. i have the smaller box that is in the top of the second photo but will be getting one of those bigger boxes.
  18. hello all, im just starting to get into lure fishing and consequently am starting to accumulate quite a few lures. i have got one of those clear Plano boxes but i have filled it so was just wondering if i should get another one or if any of u hookers have a better storage idea, i know there are some keen lure flickers on here...
  19. what are the snyder glass rods worth roughly? im looking for a decent surf rod as well and have seen how good the snyders are.
