Have heard that the farmer who owns the private property (daly heads beach entrance) gets pretty wild about people cutting his fence, driving through his property and then have the nerve to ask for a tow because they've gotten them selves bogged.

Have seen 4x4s down there, would be great if we could use the beach but like all 4x4 access areas someone leaves rubbish and destroys the area for eveyone

I don't know whether it is the same owner but they used to run horse tours through the dunes and along the beach. I did it years ago.

Maybe just front up and ask him if you can access the beach through his property?

  2. The track to the Dust Hole beach is private property. When you get to the carpark it is on the left. Last time I was there the fence was cut. It gets cut regularly it seems.

Also, when I was fishing at Gleesons on the beach through the track described above some dudes came past driving on the beach from Gleesons Landing. They didn't have any problems, even stopped to watch us surf.

Thanks fellas. Collected 20 this arvo. Was going to try them in the morning. Are there any suitable land based spots on the coffin Bay township side of the bay? Haven't seen a sole fishing off the shore.

Can you let me know where you got them? PM if you want. I haven't found any yet. Are you still in Coffins?

  4. I have a BG 2500 and cannot fault it. Great drag, doesn't flex. I'd consider getting a smaller one as well but have 2 stradics, a 1000 and 3000. They are really good as well but the BG has less (read no) flex albeit heavier. I got it for smaller stuff like tommies, ST and gar but found it was a bit to heavy with 8lb braid. Swapped over to 20 lb braid and is my go to with a 9 ft rod for casting lures at salmon. Has no problems with up to 10 lb fish. Considering the price I will replace all my smaller spinners with BG's when the time comes.

I recently got a Daiwa Sensor Surf 132s 13ft 2 pce 10-20kg rated, super happy with the way it performs and how light weight it is.

I got one as well. Very good rod.

Penn Prevail is good as well for half the price, same specs as the sensor surf.

That sure as hell makes it an easier process, however, without a sinker on the bait, how do you know it is reaching the intended zone and isn't just beyond where your line meets the water? Particularly in the surf...

I was going to use live bait that will swim out. I've got live salmon out past the breakers before unwaited.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

Yeah main reason is the missus family all live in Adelaide and all my direct family moved over west. I have some relies in Kadina and Moonta and for me to move back to SA there was no way I could  ever reside in Adelaide.

I have some relies over at Lincoln but any further out from there she isn't going to agree as they have a reasonable airport to get back to Adelaide for her.

I had to compromise with her otherwise not a happy girl as she has never lived outside a city and is scared she won't like it. No probs for me as I grew up down by Bordertown and have told her for years that we are not retiring in some sh*t hole of a city.

In the end we are trying to compromise with each other as I love the bottom of yorkes but I know that my chances of getting work are at the best remote as for her it doesn't matter as she works from home remote for a Canberra company. The reason  why we started this journey a little earlier is I have and a shoulder reco and can't get rid of industrial dermatitis on my hands so we made the decision that if I have to start a new job may as well move and start a new life 😎

Lincoln is probably the place for you. 45 min flight to Adelaide. More hustle and bustle than any of the Yorkes towns and also the other Eyre towns day to day for the Missus. My wife does FIFO from here and also works from home remote. We are forty minutes from Lincoln but it feels like a big small town. Lived the last three years in Darwin and miss nothing health, shopping or entertainment wise. It is better here. Darwin 100,000, Lincoln 16,000. Live in Lincoln, Coffins or Tumby Bay. Better than those overrun by city slicker YP Towns. 😁

  8. I've not had much use for my Calcutta 400 since leaving the NT. I was thinking of using it on a surf rod for salmon and mulloway. Maybe cast lures up to 125 grams and say a fillet of salmon/tommy with a 4 oz sinker. It is spooled with 30 lb braid. Any recommendations for a fast action surf rod? Something light and short? Price no object (yet)

Good luck on Monday Noz. Not too many being caught down there this morning.

The more I squid fish the less I believe colour make a difference. My go to at the moment recently caught squid at night, in the middle of a sunny day, in murky as water and in crystal clear water. So I'm not sure those colour charts for certain colours at certain times on bright/dull days are not worth a crock of shit. Just my humble opinion.😉

As said before get the jig down into the zone the Squid should be lurking is probably the most important factor.

Emeraldas Nude Mango Shrimp, my go to ATM, pulling them out this morning.😉

Hey! That's my favourite colour/pattern as well. The next would be the humble Neptune brand ones in lime green. Catch heaps of squid on these.

  10. I've been using it on all my reels but it seems to have buggered the braid on two reels. The braid was 50 lb sufix 832 and 50lb tufline. Turned the top 100m into the strength of cotton. Couldn't even hold a 6 oz sinker, let alone cast it. The other braid on the reels seems fine, but they are all fused braid, not sure whether this made a difference. Needless to say it will be now used on my bike chain.
