  1. I went there two years ago around this time aswell. Here's a report I made from my old profile.http://www.strikehook.com/forum/43-yorke-peninsula/207836-point-turton-firing#207836
  2. What bait were you guys using mate? My best is only 34cm and that was on cockle, which was pure luck!I can never catch Bream in the day either, but I get tons of undersize fish at night
  3. That's definitely an interesting find, nice colour... Never seen one before though!
  4. Have you actually used these with success on the YFW? I went into my local tackle to get some live worms, and i nearly bought a pack of these for when i head out after closing time. They guy told me not to bother and save my money as they dont work. is there a particular method you use with them?
  5. BCF have a deal now for a Shimano rod, and a Sienna Spin reel combo for $69 which sounds like a great deal. Not sure if online only, but you get to choose your rod and what size Sienna Spin reel you get. I'd choose the 2500. http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/bonusbuys/sienna-fd-spin-pack-69.aspx?BonusBuyId=CM14WK29-10Also their quality is very dubious and I really dislike the amount of flex in the shafts, but Jarvis Walker do some average combos for about 40 bucks for the whole lot rod and reel. That leaves you some extra spending money to pick up extra tackle, lures, plastics, squid jags, wh
  6. The only time I've actually caught gar from the metro jetties is during the day, as soon as the sun drops the gar disappear and all I get is plagues and plagues of tommies.(which taste great fried or barbecued fresh IMO)
  7. I see lots of these down Trimmer Parade in westlakes in ankle deep water, especially when the waters flowing. Kind of cool to look at with the blue spots but they are quite poisonous I think? Are they related to pufferfish by anychance?
  8. That's awesome. I was planning on just making a stand up one myself in the next few weeks, but now I've seen that I think I've changed my mind. Uni holidays = most of my life dedicated to fishing, buying and building fishing related stuff, and trying to actually catch something worth eating for once!
  9. A tip I found on this site a while ago was to use a long shank hook, and thread the worm up the shank, and leave a 'tail' of a couple of cm off the hook, so the barb is exposed halfway up the worm. The theory being that sometimes the fish like to grab onto the tail and suck it in. When they reach the barb, all you have to do is set the hook.Sounds good in theory but I haven't had the time to test it properly with the YFW only just starting to come on in patches.
  10. What are you guys catching the mullet on? Worms? And what size hooks are you using?
  11. Saw plenty of Salmon on Monday down the Bower road end of the lake, caught nothing but a sunburn however. Headed down to Grange last night at sunset armed with a tub of gents, had a float and bottom rig out. Nothing for 2 hours around high tide, and then as it was running out got a few little bites on the bottom rig, snared a couple of little tommies. Then the float goes off, and it was a little Tommie every cast. Only about 10-15cm however and all went back, except for a few that swallowed the hook, which will become bait. Only had one decent bite that bent the rod, a 24cm Salmon Trout.
  12. Thanks for the help guys, ill definately get one of those blue traps, that looks mint. Who would of thought you could use shrimp for bait. that's crazy!!
  13. Soap? As in, a bar of Soap? Surely not? Thanks guys, we'll probably get the ones I posted then and look for 1 more smaller net with finer mesh. Cheers!
  14. Hey guys, got a weekend up the river at Mannum planned in a few weeks time, I really want to catch a few Shrimp to use for fresh bait. Only problem is I have no idea what to use for nets. Seen these in Ray's and they seem great value at 4 for $25, but do they work for Shrimp? Whats the difference between Shrimp and Yabbie nets, and what to look for in each? http://www.raysoutdoors.com.au/online-store/products/Wild-Country-Opera-House-Yabbie-Net.aspx?pid=236218#Combo
  15. What hooks do you use for Mulloway if you don't mind me asking? And its not too off topic
  16. Last time I made a fried rice with prawns in it, i bought the big raw king prawns and shelled and deheaded them myself. I froze all the shells and scraps, and chucked them out next time I went out to the lake for some Bream. A big school of KGW whiting turned up and we scored 7 before they demolished all the prawn shells and disappeared. So if you eat prawns or anything like that keep the scraps and mix them in. Nothing goes to waste either which is another plus
  17. Just checked the reciept, turns out i did only pay. $119 and another $47 fpr the braid :/
  18. Hi, nah the braid wasn't included, would you be able to hit me up a link? I paid $129 for the rod and reel, and then another 47 or something for the braid :/
  19. I cant remember what size its big compared to my usual light bream tackle :)I think it might be a bit smaller than the 60EDIT: Its a Pfleuger Salt 050sw
  20. Well I went into BCF with good with good intentions. I was looking at the Sedona 4000, and the guy came over and asked what I.was looking for. He recommend the Sedona, a daiwa, and the Goth all around the $99 mark. But then he said if want something a bit better quality then they had a good deal... Anyway I got talked into a Plfuger Salt combo. I ended up with a $160 Plfeuger Salt reel and a 7ft 8kg 1 piece Salt rod combo altogether for $129. So I basically got a free rod. And oh yeah, its spooled with 20lb BraidThoughts? Did I end up with a decent set up?
  21. Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm not so concerned with its pulling power as such, i like a challenge and dont neccesarily want to skull drag it in. Do all of these reels handle casting heavy line long distances?
  22. Hey guys, so since it was my birthday yesterday, I managed to score a $50 BCF voucher :woohoo: I also managed to pick up 2 Riva 155 Armour 10kg 1 piece snapper rods off ebay. Now I know this isnt a reputable brand, but I paid $2.45 for 2 of them, and upon doing a little research I found they normally sell for about $35 each. They seem pretty stiff but strong enough. Now I'm in the market for a purpose built reel to tackle snapper landbased and in the yak. Since I'll be landbased some of the time, I'll need something capable of chucking big weights long distances, and capable of holding a dece
  23. They don't just stop after October either. We got seven one night around December while waiting for that elusive first Mully to take the live bait. I think berley is huge factor in getting a decent school close in your area too.
  24. Not sure why it says i said thankyou for this post, unless i somehow hit it when my phone had a mental fit loading the page... In response to your question, I was talking to a guy at uni the other day who.reckons he caught a couple of snapper over kg a few weeks ago anchored off the outer harbour breakwater end... having said that I'm not a boatie and don't know how close your allowed to anchor to the actual channel. i think he probably wasn't meant to be there :/
  25. I go down there a few times every couple of months. See this all the time unfortunately. Seems like about once out of every 4 or 5 times I go to that walkway theres a ray that size dumped there
