  1. G'day mate, bait fishing?? If so then I have two combos that I love (I fish yorkes for snapper in mainly 20-30m)

First one Is a shimano terez 15-30lb rod, great sensitivity, very powerful blanks! Pulled some monster Rays with it, this has a shimano Stradic 6000fj model attached wih 30ln braid, does the job nicely!

The other one is a sil star crystal blue powertip, another great rod for bait fishing, plenty of power down low, this gets matched with an abu 7000 and 30lb braid

These are both pretty heavy combos for the Reds but I find we don't get dusted up on structure no where near as much and old me white doesn't have as much time to take our fish, although he always gets a few! Also we fish in BIG red territory

  2. Great minds think alike shore jigger! Shimano Stradic 3000ci4 is intended to go with it!

How do you reckon a 20lb leader would go with the micro guides casting wise? Intending on using it for coorong mulloway on plastics, I'm leaning towards the gen black at the moment but I do get pretty picky with my gear at times

I also picked up a shimano 3zero rod, feels real comfy in the hand, as does the Shimano nano xt... Tossing up between these three now, also considering a pfleuger trion as a cheaper option, open to suggestions too 😊

  3. Gday all, went for a bit of a look today to suss out a new rod, picked up the daiwa generation black rods today and they feel great! Anyone have any feedback on them?

P.s I'm a shimano person but these rods feel A1 for the price they are asking!

  4. G'day all, just wondering if anyone has had any trouble with the sensor surf range from daiwa regarding the reel seat allowing movement of the reel from side to side? I've tried three different reels and same result? Although none of the reels I tried were daiwa... Any help would be appreciated, cheers :)

  5. Sounds like I already have the gear to cover it! Minus the baitrunner style reel

I use a rapala x-rap xtreme 2-4kg rod matched with a 2500 size stradic with 6lb braid for all my light applications (bait and lure)

And my heavier type rod has a 4000 stradic with 20lb braid on a 6-8kg catana rod.... From what you guys are saying I should be fine using these combos anyway?

I really have no clue fishing for mullies from the boat so I'm all ears haha

  6. G'day all, always loved chasing mullies in the surf! But never had a real crack by boat, any recommendations on what an ideal combo would be? Mainly live baiting, sometimes plastics

It will almost be exclusively used in the coorong, sometimes glenelg river too, cheers :)

I was thinking something like a small baitrunner with 12-15lb braid should be ample inside coorong? Not sure on rod selection yet

  7. A bit late for a report but here we go...

On the Sunday of the long weekend myself and a few mates decided to give the SS banga a run (southies old tinny that I took off his hands)

We sat at the mouth of the coorong for the arvo just messing about, I was throwing plastics getting salmon trout every two to three casts and surprisingly they weren't interested in the bait on offer which was bungum worms.

I decided to send out a live st on my mates cheap spare rod, boy did I wish I brought my snapper gear! I got smoked by what felt like a decent mully! Long story short I got 5 hits on 5 livies and landed one fish that was a salmon that went 73cm and smashed a livie 23cm long

On Sunday I decided to go down to salt creek for a look at the salmon scene at the moment, they bit from the time we were there until the time we left, only fished for two hours, caught 20 between 55-65cm and lost a few also, even tried to get away from them by slabbing one up, they still ate the fillets of salmon!

Not a bad session for two hours of fishing.

Pretty happy with these two 'prospecting' sessions!

I'm no good at writing reports so I hope it's easy enough to understand haha cheers guys.

  8. Silstar rods are brilliant for the price!

Use crystal blue series for snapper, along with my terez, good piece of kit!

They have good looking 2-4kg rods too, mates have had them for years and they never seem to have any issues whatsoever, seen them catch coorong mullies on them no worries, also rugger snapper to 55cm

Never used the lighter models myself though
