  1. Correct me if i'm wrong but my take is that they are very similar blanks

    FT- Fast taper

    FSU- Fast surf

That's what ive been told by the local tackle shop, not sure on how correct it is but makes sense to me :)

as for the 5120 part, 5= amount of wraps on the blank, 120=amount of inches long, roughly 10foot

  2. What about the ugly stick 'platinum' or 'gold' series rods?

Or the Silstar crystal tip series... From my experience in boat fishing they are both very reliable rods at a decent price

I have a crystal pro powertip surf rod that I still use, it's great

Unsure of the price of them these days, would have thought around $130 at a guess

  3. G'day mate, these days I use snyder glas rods, but even you your cheap 12 foot surf rods will do the trick, I still caught plenty of mullies on my old 12 foot water rat rod, matched with a penn spinfisher!

People will probably knock me for saying that but that just my experience, cheers :)

  4. G'day guys! I'm new to the whole trolling scene and wanting to give it a crack!Firstly, what do people recommend as a proven tuna catcher? I want to get a few lures to start out, what do you guys recommend?Secondly what do you guys recommend trolling for snook? What type of bibbed minnows? Cheers :)

  5. G'day, I am currently looking for the best suited combo for bread and butter species in SA, specifically snapper and whiting, what are your opinions on a good combo from the boat? im thinking something with 15-20lb braid will suit my needs, I just want something of good quality, price no issue, overhead or spinning, I don't mind, Im just after a few different ideas, cheers :)

  6. I personally think the spinfishers are unbreakable! Them or the pfleuger salt do the job for me in the surf at salt creek every time, and I fish there once every fortnight roughly. On the rod side of things, if your into something that's stood the test of time get a Snyder glas 'fish striker' Mt8144 or 'regal' 7153.... Hard to beat IMO both for money and quality, just my two cents worth :)

  7. Cheers cal! So they are up there in quality then! It's a pity that most of the good old reliable surf rods are off the market these days :( mainly the sabre, original Snyder and from what your saying, the hammer too! You wouldn't happen to know if you can still source pacific composite blanks or complete rods anywhere?

  8. G'day guys, lately I've seen a few of these "hammer" 5120 surf rods advertised for sale, can anyone enlighten me on what blank they use for these? They look like a tidy unit! May consider purchasing one if they are good quality, cheers :)

  9. Gee, firstly what a great write up! Secondly... I've never targeted yellowfin whiting before, but now you have got me thinking! Will a t-curve 1-3kg matched with a 2500 symetre reel do the trick? It's spooled with 6lb braid... Might invest some time into catching some yellowfin!
