  1. Hi guys, As the title suggest, im just curious on what people think is the best methods to catching aussie salmon from a boat?? As you all know the salmon run isn't tooo far away now, and this year I want to chase them off a boat instead of land based for a change. I thought about launching at encounter bay and cruising around the back of west island towards waitpinga beach and anchor up, burley hard and bake some metals or poppers around from the boat. However, is this more of a hit and miss method?? or are you better to just troll some hardbodies down deep and keep going until you hook up?
  2. Nikhum - Cheers mate, yeah they're a nice piece of gear I must say, its my first saltiga and im really curious to try out this new "automatic tournament drag" system... The reel is getting paired up with the new daiwa saltist extreme rod, its 6'6" and pe2-4. Will be perfect for snapper and small pelagics. Cheers.
  3. Here is a pic of the reel. Anyone else running one yet? cheers.
  4. Yeah cool mate, I was more out towards omeo way! When you go if you got time to cruise around head to the blue duck and fish that piece of water at anglers rest... or try the mitta mitta! Good luck champ.
  5. Here is one photo to get you keen ahaha.
  6. Mate where about's are you going?? I always head over to the highcountry, I just got back last week from another big trip up there! Did a lot of hunting, 4wdín and also caught some trout, its such nice country up there, your going to love it! Depends where you going/fishing, but there is a lot of big carp as well as trout, I was walking along a river flicking some broken back rapalas and I saw 10-12 carp in the 5-7kg range... they didn't even look at the lure unfortunately! Could be worth bringing a small can of corn along for the walk. I've got a few mates that live up there and they swear
  7. Well I picked up the new daiwa saltiga yesterday, went for the 4000 and some 30lb duel braid. Cant wait to give it a run on some snapper! Cheers.
  8. Hugo - yeah that's it mate good point, well im not going for the demon blood, im getting the new daiwa saltist extreme, its abit higher spec'd than the demon blood. But will be in the PE6/8 rating still. Cheers
  9. Nikhum - Yeah that's the other thing ey, when a barrel locks on, having some stick up your sleeve is good! Plus I can use it for sharks, sambos etc.. Might run some PE6 line and call it a day, cheers boys.
  10. I thought daiwa stop making the catalina rods, unless some shops have stock left?? or are they an import rod? But yeah I recon that could be the go mate.. Do you like the carbontex washers?
  11. bungplug - No worries mate, cheers for that! Yeah been looking around at different set up's lately and I might get a PE6/8 rod, 6500 catalina/saltiga and some PE6, kingies fight very hard and dirty I've been told and unless I go to a setup more like this, il just get smoked. Plus it will handle any tuna barrels that I might get one day. Cheers.
  12. Nanman - yeah that's what I thought mate, a PE5/6 is probably perfect for kingies, but abit of an overkill for tuna.... I could use my PE2-4 stick for tuna trolling, but I recon it may be abit light! Hmmmmm decisions.
  13. Hey bro, no worries!! Well i don't like scull dragging fish, so I recon this would be a nice setup then... We got to catch up soon mate!
  14. Gday Boys, As the title suggests, im looking at getting a dedicated Tuna / kingfish spin rod setup...It will be used trolling for tuna at victor, livebaiting kingies at augusta,, some light jigging for sambos etc etc What is everyone using/recommend?? I'm thinking at this stage getting a Daiwa Saltist Extreme pe5/6 rod with a Daiwa Catalina 5000 reel running 50lb braid. Do you think this setup an overkill for tuna? but perfect for kingies? cheers
  15. Knackers - I went to my local yesterday and played with a 6000 thunnus and it was a nice reel, very light for a baitrunner and seemed to be quite strong/sturdy.. for around $300 they could be a good option. cheers.
  16. cleaver - ahhh I thought with cirles you can run the batirunner, then let them take if for a couple seconds and then flick over to the main drag and let that sink the hook? I haven't used these circles yet but I keep hearing good things about them. cheers.
  17. Nah not really mate, it is going to go on my second snapper rod so I can fish two rods at once... my thoughts were; throw out a 5/0 circle with a whole slab of squid on there, put the rod in the rodholder, flick the baitrunner lever and sit back and relax... then my good snapper rod/reel, I will hold and feel bites as usual. Cheers.
  18. Magoo - lol yeah fair enough mate!! the new shimano thunnus baitrunner are supposed to be a nice bit of kit, I haven't used one yet just been told.. could be worth a look?
  19. No worries thanks for the replies boys! Yeah I don't mind the reel, but was just curious as to why such good re-sale that's all. I will just keep it in the cupboard for the rainy day I want to use it I guess. Cheers!
  20. No worries cheers for that cleaver, so it seems the USA built ones are worth abit more... I guess they would be better made than a china equivalent! Might just keep it in then
  21. For me, Youfishtv (BigFishChannel) is the best, great videos and Brendan explains a lot more than most... plus I LOVE his barcrusher.
  22. Hi guys, I've got the old Penn 4600LL, the USA built one's and I've toyed with the idea of selling it and getting a new shimano thunnus baitrunner, so I had a quick look on ebay to see what they are going for and there going for $220 & $320!! Please see links below... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PENN-LIVE-LINER-4600L-USA-MADE-FISHING-REEL-tuna-snapper-gummies-kingfish-/151556575886?pt=AU_Accessories_Tackle&hash=item234979d28e http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PENN-LIVE-LINER-4600L-MADE-IN-USA-/201281758424?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item2edd53e4d8 These are going for more than the bra
  23. Gentlemans fishing i think they call it ahahah. nah all good thanks Hugo! Tight lines mate.
  24. Sorry, forgot it was overhead. But yeah great rod for bottom bashing! I've just gone out and bought some 30g and 45g Octo jigs and some black magic "snapper snatchers", cant wait to give these a go when my boat arrives. Have you found the best way to use octo jigs is to just throw them over and put the rod in the holder and let the boat/waves work the jig? cheers.
