Save for a few more weeks and get at least a $275 combo, and not regret the purchase afterwards. I have a $300 dollar combo (arenos 1000fa and T-curve 1-3kg and it is just suitable for those weight lures.) You have to keep braid in mind as well. Pumpy 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Softy 2,991 Posted December 18, 2012 Report Share Posted December 18, 2012 The Catana/Solstace combo ain't bad, i have it in the 9ft with a 4000 reel... and it pings the bigger lures out a mile, dare say it would be a good little combo in the 1-3kg and fairly cheap from BCF or take a look at the Jewel combos. NickD 0 Posted December 19, 2012 Report Share Posted December 19, 2012 For that price I would be going a Daiwa Aird and either a raider mexican fire 1-4kg or a berkley dropshot 1-3kg, both rods are great for the price and will cast those lures pretty easily with light braid.with only 5 grams weight difference between the aird 1000 and 2000 if you were to buy it i would get the 2000, as the larger spool will allow for longer casts. NickD 0 Posted December 20, 2012 Report Share Posted December 20, 2012 Another option for a reel would be the shimano symetre fl, IMO I think it would be a better reel than both the aernos and the aird, at $120 it is a little cheaper than the aernos and more expensive than the aird. advantage 0 Posted January 4, 2013 Report Share Posted January 4, 2013 Shimano jewel or raider in 1-3 or 2-4 would be a good start $99 at ray and annes and I'd probably Go with the daiwa legalis 2000 $129 on special.My advice would be go in and see you you like the feel but you'd have a very nice set up for $230. storm boy 17 Posted January 5, 2013 Report Share Posted January 5, 2013 Another vote here for a Shimano Raider (I have 6 of them including the older 2-4 kg Finesse Bream )and a 2000/2500 sized reel, with 4lb braid, 4-6lb flurocarbon leader.
