buzza 1
Took these pics in April 2005 and never found out what was going on. In 20+ years of driving past the Port Noarlunga jetty it is the only time I have seen this. Just for interests sake can anyone shed any light on it? ??? http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/44qyscGN__April_05_Small.JPG[/img] http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/hPTZ0cOk__April05_Small.JPG[/img] [file name=6iO3H9ww__April.05_Small size=54684]http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/6iO3H9ww__April.05_Small[/file]

tonyb 1,017
I know there is an underwater trail there for the scuba divers and at least one marked plaque in a cement block :icon_e_geek:Looks like a small crane on the ship and a PERFECT day for sinking and siting the block and that's exactly where it is too.Lucky fellah you are to see this bit of history taking place 8)Cheers, tonyb. plankton 725
I don't know if it's related but I was down on the beach this morning and there are some marker buoys about halfway between the reef and the beach, never noticed them before but that doesn't necessarily mean they're new. Anyone else seen these?
projoe 261
surf lifesavers use bouys for their training!
tonyb 1,017
All the scuba divers have blue and white pennants when they are training/diving too, what colour were those you saw mate?
plankton 725
surf lifesavers use bouys for their training!Yeah, I thought about that, but it seems like a crappy time of year to be training, if those guys are out there now they're even more dedicated than I thought. There were a couple red buoys and a couple black ones set up in a kind of rectangular pattern.
moose 1
The bouys that you seen were placed out there for the Southern States IRB (inflatable rescue boat) Challange that we ran against the Vics on the weekend, and when all strung out comprises of 27 cans on 3 strings. And just for info SA won the day by 9 pts and yes we are a dedicated lot and train nearly all year round when the racing stopes at the end of July we then get the people that want to get various awards traning so that they are ready for the new patrol season. Back to the boat in the picture Im pretty sure that they were placing the concrete blocks for the underwater scuba trail that runs from the jetty south to the GAP and then around the outside of the reef ending opposite the jetty, comprising roughly (I think)12 blocks opprox 200M apart.
