Sunovabeach 46
Looking for an easy way to cut snapper into cutlets. Was thinking of getting a bandsaw. Does anyone know if there is a difference from a butchers bandsaw to one used for woodworking? Can a wood working one be used to cut up snapper? Or does someone have an easy to cut them up they wish to share?
carps 1
i use my makita 18 volt re cipro saw just make sure the blades have been used on a piece of timber first or the colour comes of on the fish ;D
Fishie 98
When you use a bandsaw you can get bone dust over your cutlets.I used to scale and turn the fish into cutlets by cutting with a sharp knife down to the backbone and then get a bigger knife and locate the nearest joint between the backbone and then cut thru' there with the big knife and then slice thruth flesh on the otherside of the fish with the sharp knife. These days I find the quickest way is to fillet down oneside with the scales left on and then skin that fillet and then slice out the lateral bones, next cut the fillet into slabs
brenton 637
the best way i,ve found is to freeze the snapper whole unscaled, then use a bowsaw to cut off as many cutlets as you want, rewrap the remainder and and chuck it back in the freezer,a hacksaw is no good because it takes forever on a big fish. cheers brenton
Cal 480
I use to take Mulloway and Snaps to my local friendly Butcher, and he would do it for me,at the small cost of a few cutlets thrown his way.Just drop it off then return later that arvo and all nicely cutleted and bagged up.But apparently now they cant do it for health restrictions,if they get caught it can be a fine.Cheers

SandyWhiting 0
Lol kayakfisher.. A butcher would be the way to go, but yea there is health restrictions now, getting a bandsaw, you might lose some fingers in the process.. :icon_e_surprised: ;D
