Drawn 1 Posted February 7, 2008 Report Share Posted February 7, 2008 Some nice SBT's fellas, I'd love to get around to chasing some one day.I have caught Northern Bluefin Tuna though, fishing out from Hervey Bay. Never landed any huge ones, but plenty that have been great fun on 6 to 10kg spinning gear. We use metal slugs, casting to the fish as they break the surface....GREAT fun. I was fishing on Reef Encounters charter on 7.04.08, when Mark asked us if anyone wanted to come on a Tuna chase the next day. My girlfriend , brother in law and I jumped at the chance. I was lucky to get this 17.5kg, last hook up of the day and my first ever Tuna. It was taken in about 2-3 meters of water and about 200mtrs from shore. I was ready to settle in and get a few more but the skipper had better ideas. Adriatic Sea in Italy with Nova Scotia is one of the best hunting grounds for Giant Bluefin. New Zealand is catching up fast too these days. In Italy they have been caught to over 1000lb!!! But as it was caught on my boat in Italy I thought I would send the photos. Hopefully next year, when I am there for a month, I can get a shot at one!
