brenton 637
Yabby, and a big one. cheers brenton
Piranha 76
definately a yabby (cherex destructor) Marron have small spines and thin claws and have a different body shape.south east freshwater crayfish have large spines and look like a murray cray and are only commonly found in the glenelg river system and a handful of stocked areas in the lower south east.just need another 20 of them and you'll have a feed :laugh:cheers
Ranger 48
That thing is a mutant. It's a danger to swimmers, wildlife and children.Do not take a risk with it, and do not handle it.Send it to me immediately.........it's for your own safety!

Piranha 76
it's definately no murray cray as they have large spines, it's a yabby like my lunch today
Softy 2,991
Looks like an awesome feed, shame about the girly beer... :silly:
Piranha 76
girly beer is good when eating yabs so the beer doesent overpower the yabs flavour I'll stick with that story anyway :cheer:by the way thats a 75cm platter plate the yabs are sitting on, roughly 6kg, F##k i'm full
Piranha 76
Um, on the PIRSA website it looks more like a cray to me, as it has 5 legs either side and not 3.... but most people still think it's a Yabbie thats eaten too much KFC growth hormones? Fishlups, yabbies have 5 legs either side, the same as almost all aus crayfish sometimes they lose legs then re-grow them.murrays crays are extremely rare even in the upper part of the river in sa they are rarely found below swan hill as they dissapeared when the locks where built.cheers
FushLups 0
So is this a big yabbie? I've never seen them this big!It was returned by the way, as all fish were but the carp and redfin
Softy 2,991
I have caught yabbies when i lived in melbourne that size and bigger, but they where never that dark, guess it would have something to do with the living environment?
Piranha 76
yep yabby, they grow to over 500g in dams but generally a 200g yab is considered big (all depends on what your used to seeing), at a guess yours looks 140-180g.they generally don't grow to that size in rivers with all the predators around so that is a very large river yabby.cheers
