Tyke 0
As some of you might know I work with a few migrants, mainly from the UK .I am also (for my sins! :woohoo: ) a moderator on a forum called Poms in Adelaide. My good friend Matt suggested it would be a great idea to have a bit of a beach meet / fishing competition.Mainly for the very new arrivals to this fine land.We often find newbies are very lonely and need to find out how things work here. Also a big part of what we do is to get them to fit in here and enjoy the society. Also I get a few questions on the forum about fishing here which is so much different to the UK.So .....Sat 24th of July we had a little meet on Moana Beach.65 showed up!!!!!What a great day it was.Matt and I brought down a few spare rods as well - some of the guys had never fished before. The fish were not cooperating at all but everyone had great fun, lots of socialising and sharing our experiences of living here. Thanks to Matt for suggesting and taking this on.Mark (Waterboy) gave up his day to help and advise. (Cheers Mark)Anglers Choice supported the event massively- a huge thanks to them!!We were passing out Fisheries leaflets ,advising on responsible anf legally fishing.Everyone got something out of it - I know that quite a few went back down to try again the next day.Looks like we have a lot of new people taking up this fine sport

Ranger 48
Oh my god! It's sorta like the first fleet reenactment without the boats! Glad everyone had a good time and a great turnout, and I hope the fish and the weather laid it on.........coz ya know what whingers poms can be! Seriously though, I also do a bit of work with people new to the country. They feel isolated, out of their depth and alone, so I realise the importance of an event like this to help them find their footing and feel part of the community! Well done to all involved! Tyke, Waterboy, have more karma!
Tyke 0
I forgot to mention that we asked Waterboy to bring a Kids with Cancer collection tin.Raised $229!!!!
Wannabe 66
Maybe we should invite them to the carping day on the Torrens, along with a reminder that catch and release is not an option with carp! They get to try out all their normal gear on a fish they are used to, and we get to show them how it's done in the antipodes.
