  1. I just read on the net, Japanese scientists found that Pacific blue fin tuna have more genes responsible for green colour sensitivity. Perhaps this would relate to our local population of tuna also. It would be interesting to see if your green skirts perform better.
  2. My latest purchase was a Daiwa Laguna X for slaying salmon. Hopefully it will see some action some time soon. So far it's seen the inside of a rod bag but loved popping out for a photo for a few seconds haha
  3. They look nice mate. I love the UV photo, it shows that there's a lot more to consider when chasing certain species.
  4. There has to be a few salmon chasers having a flick this weekend, the weather is just too good! Get ya reports up! With my car out of action until later on today I might have to neglect some work during the week and head out for a flick. That would be right, rain, rain and more rain!!!!
  5. Not many salmon reports going up? Are people finding any salmon out there at the moment?
  6. I was around a mate's place who loves jerky, he ate some then proceeded to purchase a dehydrator while we were still munching on my batch. Needless to say not much left now sorry Doobs
  7. Did a batch over the last 2 days, it's nearly gone already
  8. Cool, I had heard that. It might have been Southie that recommended marinade over a dry rub.
  9. Awesome!!! Haven't tried a dry rub yet, I'm interested to see how it compares to a marinade.
  10. Nice one! I reckon there would be heaps of them out there. Now that I've seen what they are, I'm guessing they are just a heating element with a fan that blows the hot air around the vented trays. There are some deluxe models out there, I think they are maybe constructed of a longer lasting metal case with stainless wire trays. They seems to be the Rolls Royce models. Thanks AF, a few ingredients I haven't tried in there and couple of different styles I might try. Geez I haven't Even had a chance to try it...... Some mate It doesn't last long enough to make it
  11. This is the one I got from Harris Scarfes. Seems to do a good job. Edit: Just found a link to it. I got mine for about $50.00 I reckon. http://www.harrisscarfe.com.au/electrical-appliances/kitchen-appliances/steamers-%26-dehydraters/kitchen-couture-digital-food-dehydrator/p/514037
  12. I did exactly that Doobie. I got a dehydrator from Harris Scarfes when it was on special, it definitely does the job. Searched around the net for recipes and mixed up my marinade based on those and what I had in the fridge and cupboards. So far so good! If I manage a 'holy grail' jerky I'll let you know
  13. I recently purchased a dehydrator to play around with. I just like making stuff myself, jerky and dried fruit sounded like something interesting to try out. My first couple of batches of jerky turned out bloody delicious with the approval of my mate who is a regular jerky eater. I've only made a bbq flavoured marinade, then the same with a bit of chili. Does anyone have a go to recipe or holy grail jerky recipe that they are willing to share?
  14. I hope you don't need to use it but better to have it as a bit of extra security if something does happen. Not a bad idea at all!
  15. Good luck Christening the Strike Hook gear tomorrow mate, I hope the fish are biting for you!
  16. I just read the news that Alvey Reels Australia is closing down. This is from the Alvey Reels Australia Facebook page... To our wonderful customers over many, many years. It is with great sadness I have to announce that Alvey Reels Australia will be closing down. Our manufacturing facility at Carole Park has served us well since 1978 but sales of our reels are now so low they can not generate the income required to keep the business going. Our loyal and skilled staff have kept the quality of our products very high and we are proud of this reputation as being the toughest reel on t
  17. Thanks guys. We went through just over 90kg of snags which was pretty good for this time of year. We couldn't have done it without all the guys that helped out, it all went very smooth. It was a pleasure to be part of the crew
  18. Some of you may know that the Onka Stompa BBQ crew were setup on Saturday at Mile End Bunnings to help raise funds for The Childhood Cancer Association. Doobie, Dain, Jono, Nigel and myself were manning the BBQ and after a flat out day managed to raise an awesome $2,023.80 to add to the Onka Stompa kitty for the end of year comp. The next BBQ will be in September!
  19. Yep appears to work. Just click "View Auto Saved Content" then click "Restore Content"
  20. Hey Samastini, if you click the "Last auto saved" text it gives a better explanation than I would have, I didn't realise it actually had the explanation until tonight. "As you type, the text editor content is automatically saved so that if you had to reload this page you can restore what you've written so far." Hopefully it actually does as it says and works properly, I've never tested it. Time to test
  21. Far out Poppa, I'm glad you're ok. I hope it gets figured out soon so you can get back out fishing asap.
  22. Where are all the die hard winter weather fishos hiding out? I must admit it's been a hard year to get out among the freezing cold temperatures and wet a line for me, there doesn't seem to be as much time as there used to be and it's so warm inside at home drinking beer
