  1. Tony, go and have a look in a spotlight store. That's where I get alot of my tying materials.Cheers, Dave.
  2. Does anyone have any idea where the venue is and when it is happening?Cheers, Dave.
  3. Hi Mick good to see you out fishing again. I wish I could get up the lake and have a crack at them. I might stay up that way for a holiday for a weekend and try for them on a warm night. If I fish near the bridges where there's lights I can try some dry flies because that's when the flying ants come out and land on the water. Hopefully I can arrange it in the next few weeks and post a report.PS. I would be happy with any size fish at the moment.Cheers, Dave.

    Inman river

Hi Micky, you could also take your waders and try the beach for whiting and flathead. There are few man made lakes there to try as well.Cheers, Dave.
  5. Take the rod to a decent tackle shop that deals with fly gear and they should be able to tell you what line would be best for it.Cheers, Dave.

    some snaps

Hope you feel better soon Micky. Is that due to diabetes? , it isn't a very nice thing to have. I have type 2 which is luckily under control with diet and exercise. On with the fishing, went out yesterday afternoon and there where people everywhere. Tried a little beach south of the marina at Snowden's. I waded out and tried the surface popper, nothing, so I tried a green fly with a bit of tinsel and after 15 minutes had a bite that I should of hooked. My mate Darren had more luck bait fishing with 3 trumpeters a bream and a blue crab. After that ships started moving through and the waves

Well done Micky, good to hear you're feeling better.PS: you should try for some salmon trout, they're meant to be everywhere in the Port River at the moment. I plan to try my luck some time this weekend.Cheers, Dave.

    Birthday Flick

Well done Micky and happy birthday.Cheers, Dave.
  12. Well done Micky, nice to see they are getting bigger.Cheers, Dave.
  13. Tonyb, here is a pic of the green drake mayfly. It's very similar to the pic you have posted and both are of the mayfly family. A green drake or blue dun pattern (winged variety) in the colour you need should do the trick.cheers, Dave.
  14. It looks like some thing from the mayfly family. Perhaps a 'green drake' in those colours could work. Maybe you could put this post on a flyfishing website, you would probably get an exact pattern then.Cheers, Dave.
  15. Well done Micky, nice fish. If you get a calm morning, try the beaches for a YWF on the popper fly. I'll have to find time to get out myself and try for some before the season ends, maybe this weekend.Cheers, Dave.

    Sharks on fly

HIfly, try putting your post on the saltwater fly forum. I'm sure there's some Victorians on there that fish for mako sharks, perhaps they could give you some advice.Cheers, Dave.

    surface fun

Micky, try the surface flies around some of the areas with lights when the sun goes down. The fish will lurk on the edge of the light, my mates and I used to use this technique with surface lures for snook off the jetties at night. Maybe the poppers might just be worth a try at night.Cheers, Dave.
  18. If the flying ants are coming around it might just be time when there's a still evening to fish around the lights with a dry fly to imitate the flying ants and see if the mullet, gar and bream are feeding on them yet. Might have to have a go one night this week.Cheers, Dave.
  19. I think you mean booby flies Micky, that's what they call them in the UK.Cheers, Dave.
  20. Tony, it's cheaper to buy the bead chain in Bunnings and cut it in to dumbell eyes.Cheers, Dave.
  21. It's supposed to be fine this arvo Micky so no excuses, just grab your rod and go fish. :DCheers, Dave.
  22. feather boa :S what next Micky, fluffy slippers? :D :DCheers, Dave.
  23. Count me in, just pm me when it's on. Hopefully I would have broken my duck on bream by then.Cheers, Dave.
