  1. G'day,I've got a 2000 and love it. 10lb braid on one spool, 4lb on the other.I'll use it for Whiting, Snapper, Onk Mulloway, smallish Salmon, etc.I'd bet you'll be nothing but pleased with it.Cheers.
  2. Gday.Yep, fluorocarbon is a MUST. While lure fishing, a good idea is to use at least a rod length of fluorocarbon leader then tie your lure on. With bait fishing, just make use fluoro to tie your rigs up with, you can then use a clip swivel to attach this straight to your braid.Tight lines.
  3. Gday.Ross up at The Rod Works (www.therodworks.com.au) is about as friendly and helpful as a bloke can be. He sells a complete range of rod building components and materials - and makes excellent rods as well.SA Rods is another seller of components as well and also makes top notch rods.Another source of materials and equipment is in Coffs Harbour NSW called MoTackle (www.motackle.com.au). They have a good website and your purchases are mailed to you pretty swiftly.Good luck with it.Cheers.
  4. Gday. The 12 pages of this discussion make for very interesting reading with some well thought out opinions voiced but also, unfortunately, some totally idiotic statements. Here's one more from myself, your's truly:"I'm going to go fishing with chicken for bait and bovine offal for burley in West Lakes for the Kingfish that may or may not be in there."Of course I'm joking... using such bait and burley would be highly illegal... and there are no Kingfish in West Lakes... or are there?Keep this shark fishing discussion going in a level-headed, polite and respectful manner and it will be much bettt
  5. Gday. After a significant amount of time going cross-eyed binding this rod, it's finally finished. It's for a mate of mine and I was utterly displeased when I heard he wanted no less than 13 guides on it, all to be done with a fairly intricate threadwork... "I want it to look sh!$ hot" he says. I hope I haven't let him down.10' Glass overhead. Rated at 18-30lb.It took me ages and a fair few colourful words uttered but I'm pretty happy with the result. I hope the new owner will feel the same.Cheers.
  6. Daiwa TD Sol 2000?I've got one and I'm very happy with it.
  7. I looked at one yesterday at a southern suburbs tackle shop. The best price they we're offering was still $20 more than I can get it for at another metro shop.So in a few days I'll head up and get it I reckon.
  8. I have a mate who loves both his Daiwa Interlines. I haven't had a play with them, pretty much because they're impossible to get out of his hands.Apparently they do not have a backbone so they're good for a spin or overhead reel.Cheers.
  9. "Copyright 2011 INDOTACKLE STORE.Powered by Internet Shopping Cart"Doesn't sound too genuine to me. If they were flogging $120 reels for $40 it might be worth a punt, but only if your reeeaaalllly game.No way when 1 $400 item turns into $2000 worth of stuff because they have a policy that if you're silly enough to pay $400 to some Indo thief you may as well cast out $2000.Stay well clear of it I reckon.
  10. Thanks Matt. The Carbontex upgrade seems to be pretty popular over a whole range of reels.I've sent him a message so I'll see where that gets me.Cheers.
  11. Gday.A cold has kept me indoors and away from work. With a bit of looking here and there I have seeded a thought of upgrading the drag on a few of my reels.I know reel servicing and repairs can be achieved through some of the many good tackle shops we have here in Adelaide but I stubbornly want to have a go at it myself as a bit of a challenge. The reels I'm going to have a go at are a Shimano Stradic 3000FE and a Daiwa SOL 2500.I know that these reels are not really in the range of those that need a drag upgrade for stopping power, I'm looking to gain a bit more smoothness out of the drags on
  12. Thanks for the additional info. From your run down there I'm thinking that the 3000 will be the reel to suit me best. But I reckon the only way to really find out is go and put the two reels next to each other with the rod in question and make the decision from there. Thanks again for the information guys.Cheers.
  13. Thanks guys.I reckon it'll be a 4000 - that it unless I put it on the rod and it's not right for the balance... then I'll go for the 3000, until I think I don't have enough line on it... then I'll go back to the 4000... then I'll complain it's too big for the rod...I'll let you know where I end up.Cheers. Thanks again.
  14. Gday.I've been looking at getting one of these reels for some time now and hopefully the day will come very soon! The only question is... 3000 or 4000 size? It's going to go on a 7' graphite rod rated to 17lb and most likely be spooled with 15lb braid. My initial thoughts are to go for the 3000 size but the rod is actually a 3 piece rod I was going to use as an all-rounder when travelling light so I'm wondering if I'd be better off with the 4000 given the extra line it'll hold. Or will the 4000 be a bit big for a 7' 17lb rod?Does anyone happen to have the reel in both sizes that can comment?Any o
  15. G'day.Great topic!I wouldn't be using circle hooks on lures. I'm fairly sure that hookups would be harder to achieve using circles as opposed to a standard style single.I've got some lures with trebles, some with stinger/assist hooks, and some with single octopus hooks and I honestly find downfalls with each method.Trebles seem to get more hookups but more fish are lost, The stinger/assist hook sometimes fouls on the leader or rear hook,And I find sometimes that a lone rear hook gets less hookups but, as others have said, the fish is less likely to get off.Cheers.
  16. I too am a big fan of Power Pro. I've got it from 6lb to 50lb and have been nothing but 100% happy with it.Cheers.
  17. Thanks fellas.Hopefully I'll be able to post a photo of it with a fish when I'm finished working next week.Cheers.
  18. Ok, thanks. If you do get the Android app up & running and wanted to re-write it or get it re-written for iPhone then I'd guess you'd have a few interested fisherpeoples, myself included.Cheers.
  19. Look this way to spot the local dunce but is an app for an Android different to an app for an iPhone?
  20. Gday.Up to this point, I've been a spin reel fisherperson - except for a couple of heavy overheads and Alveys - and I decided it was long overdue for me to learn how to cast lighter baits and lures with a baitcaster. To get the ball rolling, I bought a lower end Shimano baitcaster, put some 15lb braid on it and went about learning to cast it in the yard with a spin stick flipped over (not a purist approach I know, but it did the job of getting the casting thing right.)Now, not having a baitcaster rods, I thought: "I'd better rectify this and go build one!"It's taken me a while to get it complet
  21. You can't really go wrong with that choice. Throw a run of 15lb braid on it and that reel will do you well for squid, whiting and even reasonable snapper.Let us know what you reckon of the reel once you've got your hands on it and given it a test wind.Tight lines.
  22. I'm pretty much going to echo what everyone else is saying...I've heard nothing but good news about the Stradic CI4 reels, I don't have one myself but one is on the wish list. For squid - whether it be from the land, jetty, boat or kayak - I'm of the opinion that success can be found using the same reel and line used for whiting, flathead, gar, etc. Those being in the 1000, 2000, 2500, 3000 size of reasonable quality with 6 to 15lb braid on it with a fluro leader in the order of 10 to 20lb.Brands of reels I can only really speak for are Daiwa Sol, Shimano Stradic & Exage & Baitrunner as
  23. The only reels I have mono on are the Alvey and a big overhead. The spin reels and my one baitcaster all have braid on them ranging from 4 to 40lb.Cheers.Tight lines (be they braid or mono...)
  24. These combos have pulled in a few nice Snapper accidentally hooked while fishing for Whiting:SOL 2000 with 10lb Fireline on a Custom 2-4kg Samurai.Stradic 3000 (the old silver & gold one) with 10lb Power Pro on a Custom 6-12lb St Croix.Snapper in the 5 to 8kg mark do provide nice entertainment on light gear.Cheers.
