  1. Ive also heard thats what they use for that seafood extender stuff in supermarkets and crab sticks from the fish'n'chip shop. Explains their rubbish taste.
  2. Seems a shame to kill a ray just for the wings, for something thats commonly regarded as pretty ordinary on the plate. Have tasted smoked ray wing and the texture just wasnt right, worst tasting smoked fish i have had.Thats just my opinion though. Each to their own.
  3. Had a big 6/0 gamakatsu go right through my finger with a 9 kilo snapper attached to the second snelled hook.Didnt really hurt until i squashed the barb and pulled it out, then i saw dots and nearly fainted.
  4. Very interesting. I never for once believed it was due to smashing against reefs, crabs or shellfish. Some of the biggest snapper i've caught have had smooth heads.
  5. Go Tha Power !!!Oh yea, we havent played anyone yet. Didnt we beat the Cows who just missed a grand final last year. Smashed the suns on their home ground. We havent beat anyone yet
  6. Nice report w2bf. Mate of mine who entered said there were scores of boats fishing under and around the santos jetty at night and only one got slapped with a fine.
  7. Thanks for the report there fella. Well done on landing some fish in the comp, a lot of people dont. Bizzare that the winner came in 3 minutes before the close......lucky lucky boy.
  8. Just went down to have a look at the leader board. 12.5 kilo in front, caught by a local. Lots of 11 and 10 kilo fish make up the top ten at the moment. Not a big leader board by Whyalla standards.Dont think theres any interstaters in there, mostly local people. Wonder how wishing2Bfishing is going
  9. And I believe the brine outfall and cleaning agents from that is held and contained in ponds?Correct.
  10. Most definately a huge decline around the Point Lowly Peninsula, which is regarded as the major breeding ground. As for anywhere else i wouldnt know. Only locals that regulary fish for them would have any idea.
  11. Wow !! They really mean buisness. Not before time i suppose, looks like squid for snapper bait this winter instead of on the plate.
  12. Really ? didnt know that yeah' date=' spate of dogs were picking them off the metro beaches and getting violently ill or worse.. there was an article somewhere on here about it[/quote']My old boy picked them up faster than i could get to him, i'll have to be more careful. As i said though, he has a cast iron guts. He's eaten all manner of things, including a pair of the wifes undies
  13. Must be ok to eat, my blue heeler has noshed one or two down washed up on the beach while ive been walking him Although he has a cast iron guts
  14. Not sure whats new here ? Ban has been inforced for many years.
  15. Still might see a couple of horses caught, i wouldn't be surprised if the winning fish was up around the 14 - 15 kilo mark, but no where near as many fish over the 12 kilo mark, as in the glory days of the pens. The bigger ones are much harder to scope out, and as i said before its the locals with some homework up their sleeves that will do well. This has turned a lot of victorians away.
  16. I'm working so i cant. I reckon the comp is losing/has lost the appeal it once had, especially for interstaters. Due to not being able to catch that horse around the kinfish pens anymore, and a lack of snapper now days all in all.The locals that are in the know pretty much now have the comp sewn up. We'll see what happens this year, but im betting a low number of fish being caught.
  17. 6500b $139 here http://sneakyfisho.com/index.php/fish/past/index/mode/grid/?p=3
  18. Always used baitrunners for snapper in baitrunner mode and very rarely miss a hook up. The old series 4500 and 6500 are fantastic and reliable. Pity they are at an end. The new OC models look great though. I'd recommend them for snapper mac.
