  1. By going as light as possible the rod tip will be heavier and 200 cast later your wrist will start feeling it.Going to a heavier reel it won't get noticed during casting. Some rod manufacturers allow weights to be added at the butt end so it's balanced.Take the rod to the tackle shop and ask them to set you up with a balanced outfit.
  2. Are you using this new set up for lure fishing ?.
  3. What ever you pick it needs to balance, when held by one finger the rod tip doesn't drop or lift.Have a look on Youtube re a balanced rod and reel, put the wrong weighted reel on and that brings in other issues.
  4. Shimano range in those cheaper prices in Nasci,Ultegra and others have terrible line lay, best to get the shop to spool the line on.
  5. Legalis Exceler Fuego All 3 are the same reel ,Fuego has mag seal the other two there is only a bearing difference between them https://daiwafishing.com.au/collections/spin-reels Okuma Epixor would be my pick as Mepps suggests, not all of us are Shimiawa fans
  6. In USA tackle shops allow you to return for refund or exchange a new rod or reel that was used where the buyer didn't want it.Any tackle shop game enough to try that type of service here..NOPE
  7. When on a kayak the rod needs to be long enough so that if the fish takes a run around the yak the line at the rod tip can pass around the yak and not get caught up.Usually 7' for most 7'6" is only a bit longer so it won't matter.A 1-3 or 2-4kg rod either will work as your not casting from shore trying to reach something far away as with a yak you just drift over.Sometimes a 1-3 or 2-4kg rod can feel the same depending on who makes it,always best to get hands on before buying.
  8. Is that 20lb braid i'm seeing ?
  9. Next outbreak is expected 2nd week of January
  10. Going over the border and a covid outbreak, state goes into lock down and you are stuck. That's something some won't be prepared for.
  11. We got to think this out to your advantage,i could ask my cousin Vinnie to represent you if needed.
  12. When you look at some of these kayak vids you'll notice they'll have 3 or 4 rods/reels with them,it's incase something goes wrong with the line/reel and your missing valuable time trying to sort it out while they're biting. Some may have variable line/rod strengths or lure sizes,if i'm out in the boat i'll usually have 4 rod/reel combo's ready to go with varying lures.Don't get caught in thinking i'll spend the day out only to be heading home within the first 15mins out,and sitting in a yak trying to sort out a problem isn't ideal.Been there done that.
  13. Just watched one walking there dog along the beach at Seacliff and another out fishing in the boat. Lock down -what lock down ?
  14. Looks like no fishing for a while
  15. I got a new RZ 7' 2-4kg for $40 if interested, just never get around to using it
  16. Majority fishing SA are targeting bread and butter species, whiting,ST's,squid, crabs, flathead, garfish. No need on high end stuff but the most important part of any set up is the line that attaches you to the fish.I remember a tackle store owner telling me how some will spend 600-$900 on rod and reel and then ask for the cheapest line on special. Whatever anyone uses it's there choice and i won't rubbish anyone on what they use high or low end tackle as i have been down both paths.Just got to keep remember the reason why your doing this sport.
  17. Have some fisho's gotten so technical and in depth with the equipment they're got they've actually forgotten to go out fishing ?
  18. The Hybid line works just as good as full fluorocarbon at a cheaper price, including Yo-Zuri Hybrid Too many variables in choices these days
  19. Prefer to stay loose under my waders
  20. @TL This guy uses a Curado i usually follow his channel where lures are always getting used some on spin gear and BCasters on a variety of lures. This guy should have his own TV show.
  21. Oops for got to mention the smoke runs 8lb braid and centrifugal brakes not really the best choice for the weights you want to throw,it can be done but there are easier reels to use.Minimum i'm throwing with the smoke is 5g.i'll weigh my lures and mark them with a sharpie so i know what i'm taking with me for the day and if i'm going to be casting into head wind all day then i'll take a spin reel instead
