  1. I thought of starting my own thread but its sort of relevant to throw it in here.I am very keen to convert all of my salmon lures to singles but I like the look of doubles. I was reading about doing this in a magazine not that long ago but i'm not sure what size hooks to put on. Could you list what size hooks you would use for each size lure? I understand there a a few listed here but this would make purchasing the hooks a lot simpler :S 10gm15gm25gm40gm60gm85gmcheers
  2. Haha there were a few salmon caught where I was at waitpinga the other day. Near the end of the session I hooked onto something heavy and when I eventually dragged it in I had caught a metal rod spike with a burley bag attached There was still quite a lot of burley in the bag.. mainly smashed crabs and pillies. So I suppose that worked, hahahaha.Try as I might I kept on fishing but could not catch the rod that I was praying had been washed out with the rod holder...
  3. Yeah i was quite pleased to see that too Glad they've joined up
  4. Haha love the footage, have never seen a fish THAT keen before. Even out the water it was still trying to smack it.Cheers for the laugh
  5. So majorly confused at the moment...Went to spool up the reel with braid to then put on the mono and reverse and totally filled the spool with braid... (it is as tight as it can get)Now the 8lb braid was about half the width of 10lb mono I have but it filled the spool totally. So either I scored more line than I was supposed to get on the 250m spool of braid as my reel fits 260yards of 8lb mono and I managed 250m (270yards) of 8lb braid.Or have Okuma got it wrong as to how much line fits on the reel?Or possible does the line recommendations on the reel actually mean braid and not mono... Does
  6. I always spool the line onto a large reel and rod that I don't use first and run it through the first eye then through to the another rod with the reel I want to spool up (if that makes any sense). Then I turn up the drag to something reasonable on the big reel and tie the line through to the spool I want filled and slowly fill it under a good amount of drag so the line always sits nice and evenly and tight (I love doing it like this because you can also use it to empty a spool by reeling the big one, saves a lot of hassles)I'll empty the aluminum spool and fill it with braid then 10lb mono,
  7. Legend! Cheers for the help, I reckon i'll do the 10lb graphite spool as I only just filled the other one the other week :)I was hoping there may be some trick to working out how much I guess i'll play around in the shed until I get it right as I really want the spool to be as full as possible.May have to test it out in the torrens tomorrow or the day after as I can't wait until thursday when I head off Way too keen!Cheers again mate
  8. Would love anyones opinions on this as I haven't done it before so I'd like to get it right I've always filled a reel with braid from scratch so I've never had to top up a reel.I'm headed away over easter and i'm tired of breaking my line and missing bites and not having a good enough feel/connection with whats on the end of my line due to stretch so... I'm chucking on some braid. Now, I've purchsed 250m of 8lb braid (apparently equivalent to 3lb mono) to spool onto my avenger ABF30 and have a couple of questions I would really appreciate answered :)With my reel I got a spare spool which is gr
  9. The first question is a clear one as you can fillet and cook what you want on board but it MUST be consumed on the boat and IS included in your bag limit. So if you are on a boat alone and catch 10 squid and eat 5 you are only permitted to catch another 5 and you have your bag. I assume this is in place as people would possibly take advantage of this situation. I think this makes sense as why should you be allowed to take your limit and kill another fish for a different purpose. A limit is a limit :)The second question I would interpret as being allowed as long as nothing comes back to shore w
  10. Wow a lot of responses there I should have looked sooner!Cheers heaps for all your input lads, I think any questions about why an egi rod have been answered already. I understand an alternative rod could be used such as a SP rod but as its my favourite form of fishing I'd like to have some individual gear only to use for the one purpose. I squid a lot of territory I've not squidded before so snags are a very common thing for me so I'm going to run heavier braid (12lb) so as to minimise my jag casualties. I also like to keep the jag in some very dangerous territory as its where I get all my hi
  11. I understand that a lot of people will believe this to be a waste of money but landbased squidding is my favourite form of fishing. I realise most people don't have much of an interest in squidding and think it should just be done with any rod or a handline or as something to do when the fish aren't biting and that squid are stupid creatures.I've been trawling the net quite a bit recently and have come across several rods that look the goods. Will be pairing it with a Shimano Stradic 2500 spooled with 12lb braid.Generally the rods are about 8ft with a slow taper and lightweight with good abili
  12. Great fish mate! Gotta be proud of catching a fish like that on something you built from scratch
  13. Cheers heaps lads some very useful information there I'm not sure on the type of fish i'll be targeting yet but trout are definitely on the cards. For now i'd just like to get into fly tying as a hobby as I think there is a real art in it itself. I love something fishing related to keep me busy when i can't go fishing. Making up rigs is incredibly dull, I need something which requires patience and skill and I think fly tying fits this profile well. Thanks for you help (I'm sure i'll have some more questions later)
  14. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what are the best fly-tying books out there for someone interested in starting out.ThanksTom
  15. wow, that fly looks tops. Good work on the clip too, veryeasy to watch and understand
  16. Looks like a marron, where abouts were you on the river? I thought they were only introduced to Kangaroo Island... I didn't think they were found here GOOD FEED THOUGH!!!!!
  17. I don't lnow either but I suppose thats a possibility, makes sense. But I think people still use them
  18. I'm looking into how to do tube worms, they are studying them at uni for aquaculture I think (well they were last year anyway). The setup they had was quite simple but as to whether it would be a feasible home venture is another thing. I could always do it as a research project and do it myself at uni
  19. Cheers LB will have to try the bran thing on them when they are up and running
  20. Still a horse of a cray though I wouldn't touch that thing if I saw it diving...Would love to know what the baby was thinking with a cray the size of him next to him, haha
  21. I've got one of those Petzl ones, cost me around $50 or $60 from memory. A bloody good light with several light settings makes its great for camping and fishing Can't fault it and still haven't changed the battery... Runs forever

  24. Mine are the can-o-worms ones so I figure as long as the plastic keeps out of the sun it will last quite a while...
  25. Haha would love to know anything i can about scrubbies and nightcrawlers if anyone else would care to share I'm very keen on scrubbies... No pressure but anyone that shares is very much appreciated! Any info is new info! Didn't know others were that keen on this I'd love to have 3 or 4 worms farms going with different worms going! If i ever get too many i'll put them in the garden of give them away! Need a fishing related hobby for home
