  1. Yep, they all are a type of carp. But to me that first fish looks similar to many Koi; a coloured desendant of a common carp (head shape, downtuned mouth, elongated backbone), Cals' fish appears to be a clolour-hybrid of a genuine goldfish; a (sub)species bred from Crucian carp (small pointed mouth, high curved back, overall squatty apperance.Scientifically, and regardless of the local status that first fish is not a GOLDFISH propper. Goldfish propper can only be yellow-bronze-brown and are small. Hybrid goldfish-crucians look like Cals, while once again that first fish looks like a Carp with
  2. Rog, U using fly gear to fish them, or spin casting? They look great but, looks like u'd need a 10w+ to cast em easily!
  3. Great fish and Photo Adam! That article was very well written too, inspiring stuff!as for this mehh, have you read his article? I think it is evident that Adam has ample respect for both the fish and the fishery. That capture will forever serve as a reminder of all the time, effort and heartbreak that goes hand in hand with targeting trophy fish! Plus he's released plenty!-Good to see ya made it here GI!Yak-Dave.
  4. Vanders,Its a great knot, works well on small and big lures. Lures tied on with a loop will swim better and deeper than those connected using a normal fixed knot. Like Brenton said, much depends on how you tie it, ie, how tight the twists are and how small the overhand knot is, once you suss it out though, its the best knot for attaching lures as it is quick and easy!Yak
  5. Ha! I forgot that Aaron! Selective memory, they call it! ...beat...my own knot....... bloody hell! y'd think i coulda rigged it in my favour! (no pun intended)
  6. Well done Mully; musta felt great to land that fella!Good on ya for focusing on the fishes health more so than whether there was mud and blood in the photo!Congrats, Yak!
  7. are you now involved with the organisation of the boat show Broker? Or just passionate about it?Yak
  8. Because they WORK BEST, Period. Now honestly I cant speak from first hand experience on Snapper and i dont pretend to (I know ur a gun snapper angler); but I have many, many customers who swear by them. The reason they are so good is that they entice fish to hit your bait, that is, Fish that wouldnt have otherwise hit your bait, so i guess you could look at it as an attractant; it makes what you have already, even better.A couple of weeks ago, i had a chat to Neil (frm AdventureBound) and i commented to him about how well snapper snatchers are going. He told me that a few weeks back he was in
  9. not what u were asking; but Didnt bother going either as i have learnt (from the previous) that its just not worth it anymore. I used to take my Bro as a day out, now it would be an insult if i took him there, rather do something else, like go fishing or drive around to all of adelaides good tacklestores to see whats up.That said im not in the market for a boat (its just not worth a look these days), too hard to get to, to expensive, too little to see, too much aimed at millionaires.
  10. Nice fish Crocka, What Lure were those bream caught on?was it a weigh in dead fish comp?
  11. went to WL yesterday out in the Yak again. It was nice to be properly set up and to have some extra time up my sleve. I got there around 1pm. It was windy as hell and the lumps were aproaching 3/4 of a foot, which in an inflaitable makes u feel like ur on a bad show ride :POnce again i stuck to using lipless cranks only and it proved to be a good choice. Now while I didnt mannage any honkers, i did manage 10 bream 6 of which were legal, none were over 35cm.2 fish on a Damiki Vault and the rest on VX 35s. I found a range of retrieves to fool the fish, but the most reliable was to work the lure
  12. Great Knot Smiley!! Fellas this is well worth a try.And as for beating a double Uni, well i must confess, I tied a Uni, Smiley tied the Smiley Knot ans when the scales came out, HE WON THE DAY!!Its a good knot, i was happy with the uni before, but now im changning my spots, give it a go!Yak
  13. I rig em all different, so ive got the right lure for the situation, ie not all are rigged with Fine Wires, or even the same size hook, nor even the same rings. When i do go finewire i usually go up a size as the reduced profile allows for this, plus the wider gap (usually ) means better hook ups. Standard Owners are the norm, but arent the best for all situations especially when fishing with 3lb leaders or down VERY deep. I dont mind changing or replacing trebbles, i view them a totally disposable hardware, but as Leethal eluded; at the end of the day its better to have the fish in the boat,
  14. hehe, Actually i did change my trebbles but , while i upped the size of my hook, I opted for a FINE WIRE hook, as i find they have better penetration and will bend free from snaggs. My strike must have been average and the hook didnt go all the way in; hooked up on the tip of the trebble, a few powerful surges from a decent bream and, the trebble was straight! Damn!
  15. Looks like a good pack Ian.Ranger: With prose like that, You should work for Foreign Corespondant
  16. Wow!Nah i dont think so ;)Flurocarbon is more abrasion resistant thats why is make good leader line! As far as losing more; well i just dont get it??Finally per meter flurocarbon is on par or as expensive as good braid.U need to make ur own mind up though, as can be seen relying on others misinformation wont help you make the correct decision.
  17. Got the Yak out in the lake yesterday. IT was very windy and hard to navigate in the yak but as always well worth it. At first i found the fishing slow with my conventional rattlers not producing the goods. A switch to small Lipless blade lures and 'bang' the fish were happy to play ball. Got about 10 all up and only a couple just legal. I only had 2.5-3 hours so i was fairly happy. As always the best fish of the day got away after straightning my trebble!!! All fish were caught close to the bottom with a very subtle retrieve!
  18. I'll Second that Buff. Best little oddball tool ever! Its all i use on small split rings now, and because they are so easy you think nothing of changing hook sizes, gauge and split ring sizes. Neva thought a split piece of steel could be so bloody useful!
  19. Micky,Check out the current edition of Wild Coast SA. It has an article which broaches the subject and the shows some good lures. Bruce Brown is a ledgendary SA flyfisho who has caught many Jews over the years and ties his own mulloway flies which are available for purchase. The best colours are a mix of Green/chart back with a white middle and orange underbelly. Obviously steely blues and greys are good in ultra clear water too. The best local places are the Commercial Rd Bridge (Onkaparinga), Old Noarlunga (Onk). Near King Street (Patowalunga). Price Creeks and of course Glenelg River around
  20. That really depends on your preference mate, and what you plan to do with the reel. Generally you would be better of with say, 6lb braid to a flurocarbon leader. Fishing straight flurocarbon is good though, casts fairly well though sometimes not as far a as braid of the same strenght, but it is very stealthy and has high abrasion resistance.I dont think anyone could answer this for you, as there is no difinitive answer, but most anglers would go the braid/ fluro combination. Try experimenting with long leaders up to 10m or so, if ya like it, then try running flurocarbon straight through.
  21. YGK Jigman, a very high quality round profile braid is the Smoothest stuff i have ever seen. Best part is it is IGFA rated, its Starts at 50lb. Also i believe Fins do an IGFA at 30lb.Hope that helps
  22. WOW!!I thought my 40cm from the Torrens was good, but this takes the cake, big time!!It looks just like a carp with orange pigment instead of brown or yellow(y)!!Did u catch that szopen? If so on what?
  23. More Info on these prospecting flys.http://www.flylife.com.au/library/ttatf/furfly.html
  24. Firstly the Actual TOPIC of this thread as started by BRENTON is and i Quote: It is fine to do this.AND notice that Brenton who Already Had the Marks wanted help SHARING THEM. This is what S&H is all about!!GNSS: for someone who came with the 11th word on this topic you are mightily worked up about it, especially considering the ongoing argument has nothing to do with the original topic. You may be right but it is largely irrelevant, and your approach is bordering on what is acceptable (too personal). Bruce has no responsibility to lead by example any moreso than other forum members so thi
