The splashdown sinkers won't accept larger hooks, I believe a 5/0 Gamakatsu is about the biggest they will take. That is the smallest hook I'll use chasing mulloway and sharks off the beach, usually it's more like a an 8/0. They also look like there's too much going on with them, too many moving parts, on the beach I like to keep things simple. I prefer the splashdown sinkers, They have a nice positive locking mechanism that is less prone to accidental releasing. They also have grip wires with adjustable tension so you can fine tune them to release when you want them to. We had one to play around with at an ASF practice session. While it worked as advertised and could be a thing for novices who cant get the release working at all, there were considerable drawbacks. Some of which included having to cast with the same power each time, so if you want to cast a heavier weight or drop one in close you need to readjust it. The other big drawback for us distance casters is that you can't use any of the distance casting techniques. I was running 3lb on one of my bream outfits for a while. It was ok when there were no snags around but you really lack the ability to work fish around structure. Then there is the lack of feel, if you're working the flats or open areas with hard bodies its ok. I didn't like it when using soft plastics or bouncing a hard body around structure.

The owner ones are good but they are chrome. The spring steel they use is much better than the decoy ones. If you want the clips in black, Smith do them and they are almost identical to the owner ones. I used to get my 00 size ones from got one on magill rd. Best clips I've used.

I just roll mine in the sand, it's abrasive enough to take all the slime etc. off in no time.

If you load the sol with some 6-10lb you could have some fun with the snapper! You may feel like you're gonna break something but the sols are up to it!

^^^^ That's what I've got on my Luvius, very comfortable. I personally stayed away from the cork, firm eva feels nicer and will wear better.It's all up to personal choice in the end.

I think the 00's that i use are rated at 19lb. Don't quote me on that, my memory is dodgey. But they are much stronger than I first expected.

I think I've got an ugly stick gold in the shed, 12ft, will have to check tho. I may be perswaded to sell it, I really don't like it all that much and it's just been replaced.
