  1. I'd drop the entire reel into a bucket of fresh water until you are ready to begin, just to help slow the salt and corrosion.Disassemble the entire reel, give everything a good scrub in warm soapy water, everything gets a good squirt with Inox, then stick it all back together again, a little reel oil or reel grease on all the moving parts, and give it another good squirt of Inox. It's a freebie anyways, so you lost nothing to give it a go even if it's beyond salvage, it's totally useless if you dont give it a go, and in the process you'll gain a bit of knowledge on how to strip down your good r
  2. I'd like to try them with an asian influence.......ginger, lemongrass, chili, garlic or similar.
  3. Oh..............and don't take your eyes off the waves!
  4. I've taken the liberty of highlighting a few points which I think are important relating to Normanville issue.....as the patrolled beach there happens to be right alongside the jetty.
  5. Dont freeze them. Cook them fresh.
  6. Many thanks for your rapid response.
  7. Now I have some concerns of my own! This sharking issue has already hit the media, who love to climb aboard with sensational stories and headlines. My concerns are for the interests of this website, it's views, and how it is portrayed. Should any of you wish to write in support of the shark fishos or your acquaintances, that is well and good, and good luck to you all if they would like you to represent them or speak on their behalf. My concerns are that Brett, you write as President of Red Taggers, and as a representative of the Strike N Hook website! You intentions may have been good, but your
  8. Guys, I understand the frustrations this topic causes on both sides of the fence.I would like to provide you all with the chance to say your piece and air your views on the subject, but I see tempers flaring and things getting heated. So before anyone "loses their sh*t" at anyone else, and before anyone says something they may regret later which causes repercussions, as a favour to you all, I think it best that this topic be locked for 24 hours, just to give everyone time to take a breath, cool off, and collect their thoughts before we resume.I trust you consider that the fairest option for ev
  9. Twinpower, I have no idea how a magistrate will view events, but considering the issue as a complete outsider, when it comes to a group of virile young lads chasing sharks V one little old guy sitting on the jetty, I tend to suspect you will be behind the 8 ball to start with, as the guy would surely be seen as outnumbered, outgunned and intimidated. Without witnessing what happened down there, I cant do anything to vouch for your side of the story. A character reference is something entirely different though, and I too would be happy to provide such a reference if required, especially in a
  10. Been around here forever, read all the posts, taken in all the advice, still cant catch a fish! Talk about it too much, don't do it enough! My spot X I'll share with everyone.........
  11. Sam you have the facility available to delete your own account through your profile page should you wish.......that's your call and you are free to do as you please. As for metro jetty abuse, I have fished the metro area for over 40 years using the local jetties. I got so fed up with the goings on, drunkeness and abuse that I eventually decided to throw it in and head towards boating instead. THAT is why you will no longer see me on jetties...........YES, I have experienced it first hand, and for many years!I claim to have no expertise, simply a wish to see amicable solutions so that fishermen
  12. I know that I wouldn't want my family having to swim in the SLSC patrolled area which is only 50m away from shark baits, and I also know that I wouldn't wanna lay shark baits if there were swimmers 50m away.If it comes to a confrontation with shark fishers suggesting the SLSC pack up and move on, and the SLSC suggesting shark fishers pack up and move on, about all I can suggest is that it will come to the council making a decision between supporting the SLSC and local residents in their concerns, or supporting shark fishers and visitors in their concerns............I know which one is gonna wi
  13. Do not be afraid to drop a few by when next you are passing!
  14. Traditionally rollmops are made from herrings (an oily fleshed fish), but I cant see why Garfish couldn't make a good substitute. Any small bones remaining would also be softened/dissolved by the vinegar. Here's a very simple recipe:Method- Fillet the herrings Garfish very thoroughly.- Sprinkle each fillet with a few peppercorns and a little salt.- Roll them up tightly and pack into jars.- Add 1 chilli and a few onion rings to each jar.- Cover with white wine vinegar.- Leave in the fridge for about 5 days.- They are then ready to eat.- Delicious with sour cream.
  15. Anywhere along the beach. No probs with the water, but be warned, it is COLD down there!

    braid probs

I'm surprised! If it had only been when fishing plastics I would have suggested loose line on the spool, but the fact that it does it with vibes too rules out the loose line theory.Luvias is fine with braid, so the reel isn't the problem. That only leaves 2 possibles:1) Overspooled2) Light braid characteristics = wind knots inevitable. If your reel is no longer overspooled, I would suggest the only option left to you is to start changing braids until you find something you like.
  17. I just want pics..............and no tears!
  18. All good advice so far.I'd suggest either a mild toxin/allergic reaction from the fish slime/barb, a foreign object or an infection. No matter which it's time to see the doc.I'd say if it feels red hot along with the swelling as you suggest, then it's already infected and it aint gonna get better by itself. Get the wound cleaned out properly (they may lance it to do this), a shot of antibiotics and a 7 day course of antibiotic pills and you should be good to go!
