  1. Gotta admit, I dont know diddlysquat about these lil furry thingies........but keep them pics coming, coz I recon they look pretty damn cool!
  2. If I've read and interpreted it correctly it's the St Kilda/Chapman Creek Aquatic Reserve, and certainly off limits to everything except "Hand, crab rake or hoop net for the taking of blue crabs only."http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/fisheries/recreational_fishing/closures/aquatic_reserves_and_marine_parksI trust the other fisho you gained this information from has the registration number of the vessel and photographs?
  3. Here's a couple of batters I quite like:Tempura Batter1 egg1 cup ice cold water¾ cup flourPinch bicarb sodaBeat egg and water, add flour and bicarb. Do not overbeat.Beer Batterin a bowl combine plain flour and 1 stubbie COLD pale ale. (must be cold) make a cream-like consistency, add salt and pepper to taste, and Vegeta seasoning. (for those of you who havent heard of it, its available from most supermarkets near the chicken salt) Beat together and add 3-4 ice cubes and put in fridge for about ten minutes (this ensures when the batter hits the hot oil it will stay crispy and golden) Pat the
  4. River Murray (Blanchetown, Mannum, Murray Bridge are all within 1 hour of Adelaide).Mt Crawford Forest/Warren Reservoir (30 mins from Adelaide).Wallaroo, Moonta, Pt Hughes, Ardrossan, Edithburgh (1-2 hours from Adelaide)
  5. Well, there goes the neighbourhood!
  6. That's pretty much how I see the club too!I arrive and let myself in, there's rarely anyone else around, if I want a coffee I let myself into the clubrooms and make one, and I've also found it great for those winter nightime mully hunts! You can head out to get the tide, fish for an hour or so, then head back to the clubrooms, tie your boat to your own private pontoon, sit inside with a hot brew or catch a couple of hours kip while you wait for the next tide to get back out there again, all the time knowing that your car and trailer is safely contained behind barbed wire and fencing.Dont tell
  7. It's all in the link I provided you earlier:http://angasinletboatclub.com/wp/?page_id=64 There is NO waiting list, and don't call the clubroom number, as no-one will be in attendance unless there is a function on. No-one sits around the club all day waiting in case the phone might ring.
  8. Pt Wakefield rd, Port Expressway, Grand Trunkway.......smooth sailing all the way to Garden Island!Unlock gate, no lineup at the ramp, no rush, no ramp rage, no waiting, no worries!I am not a PR rep for the boat club though, so weigh up each club, their individual pros and cons, different distances, costs and waiting periods for membership.........you'll soon work out which is best for you and your needs.
  9. Angus Inlet Boat Club has all the conveniences for $140 per year.cons: Further travelling to get out to St Kilda or Outer Harbour.Trailer Boat Club Outer Harbour, similar in price to Angus Inlet.cons: 2 year waiting period, and you must be recommended by a current member.I looked at joining a boat club quite a few years ago for security and convenience. I quickly ruled out St Kilda as being way overpriced, I ended up at Angus Inlet and was very surprised at how cost effective it is.
  10. Grego, I honestly have no idea on restrictions placed on the pro sector, which is why I made mention that I thought the tyre reefs were only for recreational use.By my knowledge, GTR is around 15k's from North Haven, and I would "estimate" about 8k's from shore. To me that doesn't seem close to metro beaches, but like you I'd be interested to hear more from anyone in the know, as to how close longlines, nets or pro operations can come, and even if they are entitled to fish the artificial reefs at all!
  11. I thought the tyre reefs were put down as "recreational" fishing grounds......am I mistaken?
  12. Projoe has been using them for quite some time now.Maybe he'll provide his opinion on them.
  13. I just examined one of my baitrunners (without dismantling it), and I think the bzzzz'r is just a little metal tag which has probably just fallen out of it's housing.I wonder if the thing actually has a name?
  14. I'd like to hear more about this one, the circumstances, and the outcome! If someone were to ever take a potshot at me, especially over something as trivial as fishing, I would expect that they make that first shot count and aim very very carefully, coz I would certainly be defending myself with a vigour after that, and I would not rest until they were behind bars!
  15. I am so anal I could not live with a bzzzzzz'r that doesn't go bzzzzzz. I would be forced to take it in for a service!I think it's gonna be a pretty simple fix, but it doesn't hurt to get the entire reel a good servicing at the same time.....love my baitrunners!
  16. I dont use sabikis because they tangle, they are too light, too small, and have too many hooks.Even cut down to 3 hooks they tangle up and are a pain in the bum.For slimeys I just cube my first slimey as bait, stick a cube onto an unweighted hook and send it down the burley trail.Slimeys come aboard thick and fast when a school is around, so I've never even bothered using a 2 hook rig for them. You can pull them in, rebait and have another hooked in about a 30 second turnaround, so a single hook has always worked fine for me.....at 2 per minute, and with a second angler doing the same I can hav
  17. That elderly man should be reported to fisheries. The laws apply to everyone!
  18. Speaking as someone who has travelled a fair bit, I'd suggest not to expect too much!Indonesia, Singapore, China, Vietnam are all tough places to find quality fishing. For my money Malaysia would rate amongst the best with their deep sea fishing, the rest are just taking the tourist dollars to get you on the water for the day.Keep in mind that asia is far different to Australia, where we can be guaranteed a decent vessel, decent tackle and everything inclusive! In asia, you NEED to ask the correct questions! ie:If the charter is cancelled due to weather, etc, do I get my money back?Is fishing ta
  19. You will find mixed answers, simply because even the experts are still split in their views on this one.If you do a search through this website as suggested by another member, you will find that this subject has been discussed extensively, along with links to the opinions of different experts in the field. As far as I'm concerned, if the experts cant agree, I have no hope of working it out, so for me the jury is still out.I have always suspected this lack of agreement on pain in fish is why fish are still an exempt species under the prevention of cruelty to animals act.Regardless of whether the
  20. Personally, I believe some of the best FACTS, came from the recent meeting of the Fisheries Council of SA, where two shark experts (Mr Barry Bruce (CSIRO) and Mr Paul Rogers (SARDI)) were called upon to provide a briefing and clarify issues.Their recommendations which were noted at this meeting:
  21. I'd also like to hear this one direct from PIRSA, rather than just the media's version of it.
  22. People are their own worst enemies!Whenever we gain anything, it is always abused until we lose it, then the complaints start about authority and injustice. It's not just fishing, it's across the board.Have you seen how many disabled stickers are displayed in vehicles these days? I'm amazed at how sickly our population has gotten.........or are there those who are rorting the system? The numbers claiming centrelink allowances, and the frequent numbers being busted for abusing the system! Those who exceed the 0.05 driving law, ignore posted speed restrictions, talk on mobile phones while driving!T
