  1. Agreed KhombiUnfortunateley the reality seems to be that Australia is no longer "our" country anymore, due to globalisation etc etc ! Only those with the power/$ can sway that, and the chances of it going "back" seem pretty few ! Hadnt noticed that Del.Lovely case of editorial convenience :c
  2. One great thing about this is the simple fact that enough people have taken the time to consider the whole thing, even if it is at the last minute.Meanwhile Gerry Green can go ............ himself
  3. Now thats what I call a Boat Ramp, I think ! You wouldnt want to run out of brakes on the way down  :pinch:
  4. lol TB, Throw some Climate change models into the mix, and the poor scientists wont know if theyre coming or going !Possibly another very good reason why the move to do furtehr research before any more trawling is considered should be upheld MARTIN EXEL: "What we're not getting I think is decent dialogue with the community. I think as industry we have to take responsibility for some of the problem over the last week where we were easily or unable to explain to the community what is going on. We were unable to effectively respond to the community in terms of their desire not to have this big
  5. Rapala in same/similar pattern's great too
  6. Gerry Greens comment of " It feels like a thitd world reaction to me" was interesting ! Is he trying to shame the government into thinking that if we dont go ahead with supporting the trawler we are somehow second rate , when if we did let it fish here, without accurate science and data on fish stocks, breeding cycles etc, we take a huge risk of having a Third World Country fishery left ourselves ?Thats how I read his comments anyway !Speaking of " The Science " while Im hardly a scienist myself, I wonder if any research has been put into the Redbaits breeding patterns, and how huge volume
  7. Found this picture and if u look closely, youi can just see the protrusions at the back of its head http://www.flickr.com/photos/nuytsia_pix/3129919701/
  8. Looks like the next :c fight will start now with the owners lawyers trying to sue the Federal Gov for losses incurred ?Assuming they can find no way of justifying keeping the ship here, yiu have to wonder where it will go next. It's never over 'til the fat lady sings hey ! Not quite what I was getting at TB, but neverthe-less, applicable and relevant also .It seems there's a fair bit of foreign owned ships being registered in other countries going on to maybe exploit legal loopholes ?The commentary had me thinking about the Piracy off the Somalian coast b4 it was even really mentioned, an

  10. Thanks TB and Del.My comments on the "selective Journalism" point was from a very sceptical angle.Obviously theyre not going to show the real numbers if they can help it  From a Commercial point of view, I can understand their wanting to keep going, but with the growing tide of people looking at sustainability issues, ships like that just dont belong in a modern world, imo anyway
  11. Check this Del http://www.news.com.au/business/independent-mps-to-decide-on-super-trawler-ban/story-e6frfm1i-1226472323528THE Federal Government has agreed to amend its controversial bill to ban the super trawler Abel Tasman from Australian waters. The amendment' date=' moved by former Labor member Craig Thompson, makes it clear that only commercial fishers will come under the new legislation. It also exempts current agreed arrangements from the ban, in a bid to ease the fears of other commercial fishers that they will be excluded from fishing under the act.The amendments come as lawyers for t
  12. Cant be, if it was Dwayno would be holding it
  13. Definteley a Gurnard looking at the profile of its head, large eyes etc. Then again, Ive never seen one that color, and the arrangements around the back of its head almost make it look a bit like an Axolotol, so the juries out for me
  14. Interesting looking at the photos of the device in the net that supposedly lets animals escape, actually showing a pic of a seal exiting.Could that just be "selective" journalism at its best/worst ?Smoke and mirrors
  15. Personally I wonder what the Magiris' plans are for the next two years !Is there actually anywhere worth its while to go to left ?Unless maybe it decreases its mesh size and goes to rape Krill from the Southern Ocan, despite the fact that it is a crucial food source at the very heart and base of many marine ecologies, and apparently already in trouble as it is.Maybe I should delete that last comment in case I give them ideas.Still, FANTASTIC to see that public opposition has been heard this time. Will it happen re TBs comments below though ?
  16. Yeah those cats aren't all that powerful hey Ale  and 4 of them too ! I sem to recall that thyere being built in Tassie This is possibly the Jamie u heard of http://www.jamiesdaintreefishing.com/Those bridges certainly do have fish under them and one has a HUGE salty that lives under and near it too  I fished the area at dusk from the top of a very high, very steep bank to be on the safe side. Managed to snare an abandoned, snagged up Crab Pot, baited it up and got a couple of mudddies too The rivers closest to Cairns airport looked pretty good, and I know of
  17. Great read, report and story all in one there Ale ! Definteley a few cracker boats there for sure. In fact I recognise the one in the last shot with the round windows.Only thing missing is the dancing girls serving drinks The one that impressed me most was where you could actually dock the smaller baot inside the stern of the mother boat, not just on the rear deck. Those Big Cats are pretty impressive beasts of things too. While out on one of the pontoons at the reef I got a good undertwater view of one of the Cats thrust chutes at the rear, and from memory it was probably aro
  18. Definiteley agree re shooting the nets Del. To me its a pointless exercise.Once those animals are bought up, no doubt there would be a very high mortality rate. Its too late to return them then. The other thought I have on that though, is that if they are preying on the targetted baitfish, and were returned alive, there'd be an increased predator/prey happening, which would not be good for what was left :S Considering the ship is targetting baitfish, I fail to see how shifting to another area can possibly avoid catching more predators, given that the two go hand in hand anyway ! Thats defin
  19. What kind of PR " Spin" is it calling it the " Able Tasman " anyway  Mark Aldridge had a word or two about that :clap:Able Tasman would probably be turning in his grave if he knew of this
