  1. The Plan: Start at 10am at Southport and hit most southern beaches through to Sellicks and return finishing aback at Southport. Did it succeed: Nope. OK, so decided to hit Southport at 10am leading to the low tide at 11.30am and to lure for Salmon all day. Was not expecting to catch anything at Southport, as have not yet done so, plus the low tide was not going to help any. The only thing happening or moving at Southport were the walkers along the beach. (now I'm not talking walkers from "The Walking Dead" from the series for those who have watched it). So afte
  2. Fair enough mate, and congrats also, Hope it all goes well. I suppose a portable delivery room on the beach would be asking too much then? - but you don't know unless you ask.
  3. Couldn't you just say all birthdays must be conducted on the beach, and oh, what's that in my boot,.....who put my fishing rod there? And speak to the doctors, advising a great cure is 'beach', and as above, what's that in my boot,....who put my fishing rod there? But yes, I know what you mean. I went for an hour at 4.30pm today - nothing. My last one is Monday for any Salmon, so will be hitting as many local beaches then - here's hoping!
  4. Me neither Plankton...salmon...salmon...salmon. I'm thinking Waits/Parsons again tomorrow (Mon) and even though winds will drop off a bit than they are today, they will be still moderate from WSW - so may get some protection to far right of each beach. I've only been down there when Northerlies are blowing, so this will give me some knowledge on conditions.
  5. I'm glad you really really like the report Guru, but thought I'd mention you seeing I caught all of those fish from the lure I received from you Incidentally, I used the 28g.
  6. You do that Boomer. I'm no expert on fishing for what, when or where, but down South there are a lot of nice places to fish and some great scenery as well. Depending where/when you ever go, just consider those Southerly winds - they can really spoil the day.
  7. I think you are right af, it is a Southern Frostfish. Comparing the top fin, the Barracuda seems to have 2 separate fins whereas the SF has the fin running all along the top. The SF has very sharp teeth (like the barracuda) as when I opened the mouth up one of the teeth jabbed me and drew blood !! Thanks for clearing that one up Yes the spot has proven well on 2 occasions that we know of, but I was the only one down that way. All others where within about 100m of the steps. And thought I better give Guru a little plug
  8. I have been wondering lately, especially over the last week, to whether the salmon have actually disappeared. Many of us have had dreadful times in trying to find them and to even catch the bugga's. Lately I have been heading down to Maslin Beach because it is only 5minutes from my house - so it is convenience more than anything. I've walked up and down that beach luring only and expecting something due to some good catches about 3 - 4 weeks ago. But on the last 6 or so occasions of going there morning and afternoon I came home with nothing....again ! So I checked the tides fo
  9. Excellent idea, although I raced home to get todays report in for end of August and to give Plankton and sbarnden a little more competition
  10. Good report TFG and some photos there. I went to Maslins, Pt Willunga and nothing. So ventured to Parsons and Waits and sorry, you will be jealous. (report to come)
  11. Wrap in newspaper and wet under tap.....yes, I remember doing that now...oh the memories. I suppose I'm not one to say I am going to target 'x' today, more I just want anything that will take a bait and thinking worms are a good wriggle choice on the hook. Seeing I am land based I would think any of the worms would do ok, and I do recall collecting worms more in summer. But can they be caught now? and where is generally good in the southern metro area? Does anyone still use a pitch fork for tube worms or a different method etc ?
  12. Wow, I've never heard of such proceedure, but if that is what is done I am not one to disagree - something learnt I suppose. And I can understand and smile about the "authentic" smell for down the port way - sounds logically then May try it if and when I get any (per Q's in OP).
  13. Cheers Magoo. Metho ? are you joshing me I would have thought that would leave an aroma or even a bit of a slick in the water that would not come near. Like not to put say sunscreen on with fingers before baiting up. If hardening, I thought maybe salt, like with cockles. I did look for some seaweed worms but no luck seeing any, just white jumping looking bugs.
  14. In fact I might just pop down there now for a quick flick for a couple of hours ☺
  15. Many years ago (and that is a lot of years) I remember going to the beach (can't recall where) with some adults and digging up tube worms with a pitch fork - not a spade as that would slice them. But does anyone still do this and would most beaches still have them? Catching sands worms is quite a technique and needs a good lot of practice to catch those buggers, but digging for tube worms seems easier. Is this time of year any good for getting either tubes or sands? And is there a limit to how many one can catch? Obviously doing this at out going tide and calm weather is best
  16. I walked up and down Maslins yesterday casting lures without a touch, it was a nice day to be out though. Me too Plankton, but I went down about 5pm casting lures. Got onto 2, but as I had changed the treble hook to a single (thinking there may have been a bit of weed still around) both fish dropped off at the water edge. Think I had too larger hook. But a lovely time down there and nice sunset.
  17. Well done Plankton, that must have felt really good. And to get around a dozen all up is not so bad. But you could have left some in the sea as there none at Southport, Maslins or Sellicks this morning, just one lone ST at Pt Willunga. I agree with Bjorn too - nice beanie
  18. Not sure if anyone might be interested, but BCF are having a sale on Tues. 11.8.15 (5-8pm only). Buy one item and get 50% off the 2nd item (equal or less value) and a few exclusions. It is a member only sale, so if you need a couple of things, even other than fishing, you might save some dollars.

    Barrages

It's not really clear how many are open under 'gates' . Boundary creek shows .05 sso maybe only half the gate is open ?? Goolwa shows 17, mundoo 6, ewe island 5 and tauwitcherie 25. The only opening time I found was for goolwa barraage 8.30 to 12.30 and 1.30 to 4.30. Couldn't find times for other barrages on any search but there are phone numbers for each lock under 'lockage ' tab on left if that helps.
  20. Excellent video Bjorn - you looked like a professional ☺ Great prize from Fishing Wholesalers also - someone will be very lucky - best of luck to all.
  21. You reminded me Fishingmad - same thing happened to me, also at Pt Willunga. Tide was coming in and a couple waves getting close to my gear, so went to move a bag higher up and when I had turned around to get the rest of the gear a rogue wave had swept the rest away. Luckily I still had rod in hand, but lost a white bucket with my catch, good knife, all my bait and berley plus my cutting board - couldn't save any of it - although the cutting board washed up about 20mts down. Not an expensive loss but still annoying.
  22. I received the prize pack today, so thanks Bjorn for your quick post. And great product quality from The Fishing Guru and Strike & Hook. Will have the S&H cap on for Waits meet/fish on Saturday ☺
  23. Congrats Alex on your win. A good video of the day and some nice prizes by the looks.
