  1. Definitely looks like a Weedfish of some sort - problem is, there are so many types of the little buggers. At this stage, I'm looking at Rosy, Longnose or Ogilby's...I don't know whether this site will help throw any further light on the topic:http://fishesofaustralia.net.au/home/genus/661Cheersaf
  2. Classic, Kuerschie...although I do find it a bit hard to swallow
  3. A previous thread some may find interesting:http://www.strikehook.com/forum/66-introduce-yourself-here/223644-new-member-luderick-hunter#223644Cheersaf
  4. Check Rule 3 - unless you're a "Commercial Entity", it shouldn't be an issue...
  5. Have you checked out any of the Black Magic or Jinkai range?Cheersaf
  6. Anybody had any experience with these (good or bad)?http://berkley-fishing.com.au/product/squiddo/Theoretically, they seem like they should be good for snap's - but we all know about some lures catching more anglers than fish, don't we? Cheersaf
  7. Be prepared for a lot of (river) traffic...Onk' has been "'yak central" of late... Cheersaf
  8. Hi Station49Click on this link:http://www.jarviswalker.com.au/catalogue/boating/boating-accessories/pfds/watersnake-pfd1-lifejackets.htmlClick on the "Find a Store" tab, put your postcode in and you shouldn't have any problem finding a Dealer close to you.CheersafP.S. I bought a Marlin Inflatable (Level 100) at BCF the other day, if you're interested in alternatives.
  9. w2Bf - I reckon I read somewhere once that gar normally feed on weed, algae and small sea creatures (plankton?), but after the winter blows, flies would lay their eggs in the rotting seaweed and any fish carcases that had been washed up - the next big spring tides would wash out some of the developing maggots and the gar would come in close to feed on them (that was the theory, anyway - might be just crazy enough to be true!).Cheersaf
  10. Hi trihullCouldn't say one way or the other whether the photo was a setup or not.As a matter of interest, I checked out the details of the image acknowledgements and found this:http://www.algalita.org/index.phpThey appear to be a sincere, non-rabid organisation (unlike some) - and with no hidden agenda - who would just like to have an ocean free of unwanted plastic crap, and that can't be a bad thing.Cheersaf
  11. Only just slightly off-topic:http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/15772559/aerial-patrols-missing-most-sharks/
  12. Not very pretty reading:http://indaily.com.au/news/2013/11/28/plastic-not-fantastic-for-aussie-seas/:sick: af
  13. Often wondered how these would go on the gardies:http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/soft-bait/gulp/maggot-gulpI have a jar of them in the back of one of my tackle boxes and I haven't yet got around to trying them.Cheersaf
  14. The theory is interesting. Something similar seems to be at play here:http://aquascene.com.au/and here:http://www.lordhoweisland.info/points-of-interest/points-of-interest/neds-beach/Cheersaf
  15. Here's a thought...Just for a day, I would like to roam around visiting the major fish retailers in Adelaide and price 5 species of fish ($/kg for fillets) and whack it all up in a spreadsheet and post it on this site. My initial preferences are:KG Whiting GarSnapperFlakeFlatheadDo any S&Hers have any other suggestions?Cheersaf
  16. My perception is that the particular fishmonger in question has generally higher prices than most of the other retailers around town. The prices at the (former) outlet at Colonnades were so out of touch with reality that it's no wonder it closed (mind you, the alleged rental being charged by the centre management probably wouldn't have helped). If you think the prices being charged in town are a bit steep, just wander out to Burnside Village and see what their outlet there charges...Just have a good look around, folks...there are quite a few other outlets doing product which is as good as (or
  17. From today's NT News, a "rather interesting" proposal to target fishos who exceed possession limits:http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2013/11/13/327310_ntnews.html  Cheersaf
  18. Hi EgglottiCheck out this recent thread started by Des (the YFW whisperer):http://www.strikehook.com/forum/5-general-fishing/256275-finessingYou should find it helpful.Cheersaf
  19. I think you may well open up a whole new can of worms there too, w2bf...Unless you're specifically going to use IGFA-rated line all the time, I suspect you're probably going to get a wide variation in breaking strains depending on the line manufacturer - which tends to leave the rod manufacturers just a tad up the proverbial creek as well.Cheersaf
  20. You may find this link helpful, w2bf:http://oceanbluefishing.com.au/2010/06/24/pe-rating-fishing-line-diameter-chart/Cheersaf
