G'day mate- there is no point tackling a fish as big and tough as Jew with a 100 buck combo, so its a good thing that budgets not a problem.....nah, its not that bad- but you definetely pay for what you get. Your best option would be a gutsy 10 or 11 foot rod with plenty of meat to stop 60lb plus of jewie.Standard salmon surf rods definetely won't cut the mustard. As for reels, i like big chunky egg beaters that can hold a good 300 metres of 30lb line, ande have a smooth drag action. Once again, all leading brands have lots on offer in this department. It boils down a bit to budget and personal preference. Traceline should be topshelf- Jinkai is good, around the 60-80lb breaking strain. Use the best swivels you can buy and make sure your knots are flawless. Same goes for hooks- twin 8-0's are a good starting point, Octopus make a very cruelly barbed unit.Baits should be as fresh as possible, with salmon fillets, squid heads, pilchards and gar fillets being standouts. Vivonne bay!!!theres a property i stay at however i dont have his contact details on me so I'll have to get back to you.Its fairly pet friendly as its on plenty of bush acerage, however just be mindful of snakes, goannas, penguins... well any fuana, its all there. Its right on the river front with the mouth only 100m away (if that)
