  7. seen this in the advertiser this morning though some might be interested AUTHORITIES are considering lifting a ban that prevents professional anglers from harvesting cockles on Goolwa Beach. Commercial fishers take their cockles from the Coorong side of the Murray Mouth on the Younghusband Peninsula all the way to Kingston in the South East.Recreational fishing for cockles is largely restricted to Goolwa beach. However, senior fisheries manager Dr Lianos Triantafillos says two years of research, funded by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, will feed into a new strategy."The stock was fished heavily for many years, so we want to make sure it has recovered sufficiently," he said. "Once that's done we're going to look at sharing both beaches again."For 25 years, John Jackson from Hindmarsh Island has enjoyed fishing for cockles on both sides of the Murray Mouth."I think cockle fishing should be allowed at the other side, for recreational fishers as well as the commercial fishers," Mr Jackson said.cheers 4THA.
