  1. wow April 1st revisited lol
  2. maybe a win will see me finally learning how to use squidgies correctly. So far ive not even managed a bite but then ive only been trying them for 2 years
  3. congrats Alex on a nice win and also thx to spotter for making it possible
  4. i do what Kingsley suggested and walk the beach at low tide. I often map out the area on a piece of paper-comes in handy to refer to at night owhen im on the move
  5. Yep was a tad tough but loved just being back on the planks. Must admit my face has gone from super wind burnt red to looking like the scales on a carp thats been laying on the river bank for a few weeks lol
  6. Arrived Pt Turton Thursday Arvo around 1:30pm-ish. Good news is the Turton turn off coming from Minlanton now has a brand spanking new sign in easy sight so no more missing Flaherty's corner and having to double back  Wind was gusting and blowing in from the marina so at least when on the jetty it was at our backs. Started fishing the Marina but was blitzed by trumpeters so headed up to the jetty and fished the end for a while with only small pain in the butt sweep making a show. Moved back down to between the measuring station and staircase to at least have the wind behind me. Big run
  7. Didint fish Giles this trip-wind was all wrong but did promise to check out the jetty and yep it was still closed off roughly half way down.b:c
  8. top job on the catch and on the photo as well-certainly merited a cover spot for sure
  9. Port river Goby - thats what Dad used to call em so thats my guess
  10. We made up a frame and covered it with mesh-it was about twice the size of a shrimp net and built the same. Easy to lug about and great for live baits
  11. yeah it sux for us but the jetty's had over 3 closures and $6mill in damages in 3 years-i suppose we should be lucky its open at all
  12. thats sad as the end is a great place for an all nighter and mostly gives top results. I suppose it was bound to happen - after that second fire last year i thought they mightve shut down the whole jetty so in one way we're lucky but in another once again the majority have to suffer due to actions of the thoughtless minority
  13. I mainly use giles as a bait supplier lol. Usually go for tommies, gar and squid to build up bait for winter trips as well a family bbq's lol. Also mainly going down yorkes to do a test run on a few blades ive bought just to see how they perform and to go to Point Turton to try and catch a wiley old bream that i missed a couple of trips back-silly bugger doesnt know that all i want from him is a good fight and a piccy before i send him off back home
  14. I like using the small silver halcos as well. Going to have a go with some 35mm blades just to see how they go
  15. Im heading down there friday and will post a report when i get home Saturday arvo
  16. Little Carpet Shark gets my vote - but im not known for high accuracy ratings lolpirhana love the pic-pissed myself laughing
  17. Im going to try them from shore based at Point Turton. Th jetty has a heaps of sand areas as well as the bay. I also want to give the marina a go at a high tide-thats where the weed issue may be a hassle - we'll see.Im also going to try them at the weed/sand edge at Stenhouse bay for flatties or anything else that may take a fancy. We'll also be going to Giles but i reckon that thatll be a no trier as the weed is as thick as ants in a sugar pot. But with giles i thought i'd test run some of my new poppers and see what happens. Thanks for the input its greatly appreciated
  18. Wow nice prize for someone luckyeasy entry as even a doofus like me actually managed it
  19. Hi All,Im looking at giving "blades" a go to add to my lure collection:woohoo: Im not a big user of braid-in fact it has a built in dislike for me. I was curious to find out if blades work ok on mono and what strenth is advised for best result. Im going to try them out in the hunt for bream, flatties, salmon and small kingies-the latter most probably being wishful thinking on my behalf. So if anyone wouldnt mind offering some handy advice it'd be greatly appreciated oh and im a shore based fisher
  20. nice sized sweep. The others though-no good to eat but fun to catch-looks like a fun time was had and I bet a few lines chewed up as well lol
  21. yep Jack. If u see an old bloke in shorts, crocks and spray jacket with blue skin at st kilda its me lol I must admit i take a towel and change of clothes for a quick warm up if it gets too rugged then once warmed up i switch back to wet gear and have another go lol
  22. nowadays i just bung on a pair of crocs and go for it-even in winter. Looks odd but hey it works for me
  23. i only use waders on quiet stretches of water-seen to many close encounters with angels by others fishing rough water in waders
  24. A good place if u dont mind fishing the planks is port giles - fish the section before the first expansion-heaps of good runs to be had
