  1. From my understanding Paul, it occurs in the upper reaches of the Gulf, ie; St Kilda, Pt Gawler, 'Parham, 'Wakefield, Price etc. It also occurs in The Patawolonga on a smaller scale. I don't think it occurs in The Onka. {SMILIES_PATH}/huh.gif I am unaware of where else the phenomena occurs, but someone may be able to enlighten us further. {SMILIES_PATH}/smiley.gifI, for one, am very much looking forward to the run this year. {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif I missed it last year, but now I've got my boat, I'm hanging out to collect some quality, free bait. {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif Just make sure y
  2. Another look at a chunky Browns salmon, set against my Stradic 4000 and my 'spaghetti stick'.. {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gifCheers,Wino http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/bmBDFCKy__Wino_Browns_Sambo_68cm1.jpg[/img]
  3. This was the biggest one I've got photographic evidence of. {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifEstimated around the 8-9lb mark, very thick thru the neck & head - and so's the fish... {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/cheesy.gif Photo doesn't really do it justice. Cheers,Wino http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/xRuTVJIA__Wino_Browns_Sambo_68cm.jpg[/img]
  4. If the [i:1xpmeunb]base[/i:1xpmeunb] or majority of the berley is bran, therefore small amounts of mince, cockles, worm or gents - whatever bait you use to catch mullet - have to be deemed as 'secondary'; which would also be deemed as 'minor'; which can only be 'small' in comparison to the larger portion of the berley mix. {SMILIES_PATH}/cheesy.gifI always carry decent sized snap lock bags in my backpack when I go fishing for mullet. If anyone is worried about being "busted", I recommend you keep a stock with you when you mullet-fish, and if a Fisheries officer ever tries to exercise his 'dis
  5. Please note their use of the word BERLEY, being OK to use, even though they ALSO say using it for burley is NOT ok! Hence the officers discretion! {SMILIES_PATH}/huh.gif Because Fisheries Officers obviously know what to mix into their BERLEY[/color:24nd5l8b] when fishing for mullet.. {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/kiss.gif They're even giving away their secrets by the wording in the legislation.. What more do ya want?? {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/cheesy.gifCheers,Wino
  6. Mate, I have never, ever met a mullet fisherman that uses chunks of minced red meat primarily as berley! Yes, a little of the bait mixed into bran-based berley is not unusual - it makes sense to give them a small taste of the bait you are presenting to them - but to lob dirty, big clumps of it into the gutter in front of you, well, it's not how you catch mullet.. {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif Personally, I think Yak has interpreted the legislation spot on, because unless you are a complete fishing GIMP and berley up with double handfuls of mince
  7. Mate, go to the Home page or Forum etc, top right hand side of your screen is a menu list, bottom one.. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif@ AFF - there's one in every crowd.. {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifCheers,Wino
  8. {SMILIES_PATH}/shocked.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/shocked.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/shocked.gif I can't ever recall hooking a fish in the nipple... {SMILIES_PATH}/lipsrsealed.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifBUT, I am impressed by your willingness to provide personal subject matter, and no doubt divulge any subsequent findings towards the discussion.. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gifCheers,Wino
  9. I can see the irony of a Crocodile (Rock) with an Elton John in it's mouth.. {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/cheesy.gif Cheers,Wino
  10. How dare you question the sincerity of my apology.. {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif Thanks for that disturbing visual mate - especially just after lunch! {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif Where's the 'Report To Moderator' button again..?? {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifCheers,WinoPS; Don't forget to crush the barbs.. {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif
  11. No. {SMILIES_PATH}/cheesy.gifIn relation to your pre-conceived idea of how you would've liked the discussion to have taken place, I think we'd all like to think that we minimise whatever pain fish do feel, therefore it is hard to keep such a contentious subject on one individual aspect of it without branching off into other relevant issues. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif Sorry to spoil your plan mate.. {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif For the record, my mouth (and typing fingers) are about the only things that move at a swift pace.. {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink
  12. LMAO @ Gaffer! {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifI was gonna add that it's a good thing that the Hobie is an extremely stable craft.. {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gifCheers,Wino
  13. Ray & Anne's always have a healthy stock of bream lure sized Owners. For the larger trebles (size 4's and above), I tend to get them from what used to be Tackleworld at O'Halloran Hill - apologies, dunno what the store's called now, I'm sure southerners will know.. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif I'm sure STW will have them too if you live out that way. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gifFair dinkum Buff, you're a crack up! {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif Cheers,Wino
  14. Ditto Venkovich! A friend of mine showed me how to despatch them straight away and they don't dispel their ink afterwards too, for those who don't want a buckey/esky full of ink.. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif Just a quick squeeze between the eyes and the tube and when they turn opaque very quickly, you have snuffed out their living existence.. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gifCheers,Wino
  15. {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/cheesy.gif Coupla points to address here.. {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifa) Wino? Coz that is I. That is my actual nickname. That is who ppl know me as. {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif Why 'Goat Herder' then? Coz I can! {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/cheesy.gif You asked about pain? I [i:32ioh24h]personally[/i:32ioh24h] believe that a fish sucking in copious amounts of oxygen and other gases in our atmosphere cause more pain to them than the actual 'catching' of them, therefore I personally find it r
  16. Re-watching one of the Fishing DVD episodes the other night, one of the presenters (Shannon Watson, by memory..) reckoned that Australian Salmon tailwalk and thrash about trying to shake trebles because they think that the lure is a fish lodged in their gob/throat.. I have my doubts, but it's an interesting theory nonetheless.. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifCheers,Wino
  17. Smurf, Yak or srick - are they gonna be coming out quarterly like first advised or more frequently?? And, I didn't see a date, or month, or year for that matter on the first one....could be just my blindness.. {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/huh.gif Are they just gonna be called 'Edition 1', 'Edition 2' etc.?? It'd be good to look back on them in the future and be able to pinpoint when they were released. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gifCheers,Wino
  18. Rumour has it that there might be a few more floating around the place. {SMILIES_PATH}/huh.gif There is a whisper that some cowboys from Grange jetty have dumped a few little bronzies in The Lake over the years. I'd have thought however, that if they exist, they would've been spied by now cruising the shallows. Certainly no shortage of food in there for them if they were in The Lake.Cheers,Wino
  19. Google search revealed this site to me, desperately in need of some local fishing banter. {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifIs a top site too guys, congrats! {SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gifCheers,Wino
  20. Geez mate, talk about opening a can of worms.. : ;)Personally, I think yes and no.. I don't think hooks do them much harm - unless they are jagged in the eyeball or in the guts - but I think leaving them to die out of the water causes them more pain than anything else. Euthanising (sp?) them is more humane than when I see cowboys on Browns for example, with piles of salmon flapping about wildly oin the dunes behind them. > A quick snap of the neck or a spike thru the scone is better I reckon, and I ain't no tree huggin' greenie! {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif Relea
  21. Great work Rob, I was struggling to dig it up. {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifCheers,Wino
  22. Yes, it pays to have photogenic friends, ay Shaun..?? {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifCheers,Wino
  23. I doubt there is anyone on the FWC who have put South Austrlian fisho's onto more quality fish than Sam.I echo HF's condolences to his family and friends.RIP Sam. {SMILIES_PATH}/cry.gifCheers,Wino
  24. Sounds like the Silstar Crystal Tips are popular. {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif Drawn also has one that he uses for cod trolling. {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif I have a 7ft version which I match up with a 4500 Baitrunner, but I upgraded a few months ago to a 6'7" 2-piece Shimano T-Curve 5-10kg matched with a Caldia Kix 3000 loaded with 15lb Spiderwire Stealth. Light as buggery with the cork grips, especially compared to the Crystal Tip & chunky Baitrunner. The new stick also doubles as my cod trollin' rod. {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifCheers,Wino
  25. One of my best sessions was unplanned and unexpected. Two mates and myself drove to Wallaroo jetty, hearing that big gar were being caught near the end in solid numbers. Armed with a crapload of tackle, bait, esky, etc, I loaded the lot onto my golf buggy and wheeled it out to the end. ;DGar rig was quickly despatched, amongst where there were a few distinct rises on the dead calm water. The float disappeared within 5secs of it hitting the water, I hooked up, and before I knew it, a green and yellow flash disappeared beneath the jetty pylons near where I was standing and busted me up. {SMILIE
