  1. Brilliant! Give your son some of ya Karma for me, not that he'll need it though as he already seems a gun fisho!
  2. hey statesquider, is it maybe that you haven't got the full 260yds of line spooled on at the moment?I have this same issue as you on my Shimano 2500 while running braid, but it's because I've lost a considerable amount of braid due to line twist and whatever else so I've prob only got around 80-100mtrs left on. I've gotta change soon, but I didn't struggle with this amount on a 3kg carp I caught the other day. But if you are running 260 yds of 8lb that should be plenty to stop even the big ass salmon and even snapper to around 5kg.
  3. I believe I read the same article as you about the salting. We did this on our far West Coast trip earlier in the year, and it marginally toughend up the pillies and allowed them to keep for longer, but I agree with Rocknev when he suggests leave out the tuna oil. The Tuna oil made baiting very messy and I'm sure limited the salts drying capabilites, and when you're on a long trip with limited water such a messy bait isn't the most ideal.Maybe a smaller dose of tuna oil would be more effective, and do what Rocknev did and change the salt and tuna oil over and just switch to plain salt later in
  4. Just picked myself up one for a treat.Just wondering if these are decent rods?
  5. No two nights before i got the snapps. Was dissapointed we didn't land anything decent(besides this squid) this night. I dropped a kingie and brendan a bronzie.
  6. some of you may have seen on the West Coast board. But i caught this one up Fowlers back in Jan, Stupid me didn't measure his length but I weighed him at just over 2kg. I reckon easily over 35cm maybe even pushing over 40. Shoot me down if you feel I'm over estimating. He was menacing our live baits all night long, even though are live baits were quite large squid themselves! We ended up snaring it by walking it up the jetty while it was munging on a bait and then getting a clear gaff shot. We tried this at least 3 times before we were successful. http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attach
  7. I've seen people tear up with both cheap and expensive, It's definitely how good you are at trolling and tempting the squid, if ya not getting results or not so confident then stick with the Mr. consistent squid witch.
  8. i know snapper get real spooked if you're using snapper as bait.
  9. I'm about on par. Loosing mostly spinners and sp's but generally been loosing maybe 1- 2 each outing.
  10. a Friend of mine, she studied this at Tafe when she did animal studies. She was taught:No, fish do not feel pain. Pain as we know it to be anyway. They know something is wrong, she was also taught they have different receptors to us. it's like a reflex for them when something is wrong. They would naturally withdraw quickly (reflex) but aren't screaming in agony because they've been impaled with a hook as us humans would be, they just know something is wrong. maybe fish have leprosy. But Tafe could be wrong. Won't stop me from fishing
