Hey guys- I thought this would spark a few comments- it's not hidden knowledge that Tommies love soft plastics and the occasional hard body. I wanted to ask you your rigging style for SP's in particular. Casting off a high platform such as a jetty can be problematic at times. Also Often they are very tentative and only will take very lightly weighted plastics- but this proves difficult when casting with a breeze and needing an adequate sink rate to impart action. Does anyone rig them like a bait? Or add additional lead? Interested in your thoughts.

I would assume they wouldn't just be rubbing out their range without having future replacements up their sleeves. Shimano are releasing new season reels atm and into the future, so you'd think Daiwa must be following suit.

A 200kg shark would compare to most kingies though.... Just pure girth makes it near unstoppable.The propects of a dirty fight makes my mouth salivate... I got a hinkering!

Hey mate- a good couple of years back I had the 7'2 2-4kg version. This was a great bream rod, quite a stiff action and a solid butt section that I wouldn't hestiate to use on bgger fish, but still light enough to use soft plastics with. Unfortunately mine broke- but only because the wind blew it into the jam of the car door, and then blew th door shut haha- and pop it went. Other than this I could not see how this rod would faulter, I know some people have had issues with the higher kg rated rods snapping, but still not overly common.

Hey crewI am looking into building myself a new rod rack- I have susses it out a bit and have a few ideas. But thought i'd get your suggestions and have some discussion on the topic. What works for you, what improvements could you make? Not looking to spend anything over 20-30 bucks on all the hardware necessary. ThanksDFX

I know Pt Turton def shows up some decent fish regularly- gotta know the times though, I've seen many Kingies roaming that jetty- but never fished overly hard for em- they chase lures as well if you get them while actively feeding. I'm happy to give you that info if you're keen for it, And I'd be equally as keen to join you in targeting this species Land Based this summer- I'm happy to travel as far as I gotta to crack this species.

The 1-3kg T-Curve Spin662XL is perfectly matched for the Ci4- a 1000 sized reel is designed to be matched for this rod- but the Ci4 being so light can prob be translated to a 2500. I've recently matched a 1-3kg T-curve with 1000 twin-power. this rod is real whippy but not sloppy- perfect for hb's and sp's- as I hate using sp's with a stiff rod; i.e the heartland I am currently using, I barely touch my soft plastics. I have the 4120 Graphite, it's a good rod, stiffer action. Yet to load up on anything massive with it so i can't really testify how it handles. But on 8lb Salmon it handles perfectly. I only got the graph cause they were out of the glass and I was going on my trip the next day. Problem with graphite is that it isn't anywhere near as robust when using on rock ledges, and have to always be mindful of where ya swinging it and how ya packing it.

Yeah a 4120 would be fine for mullies and sharks, a 5120 is ideal but is getting a bit heavy for an all round for salmon etc.You won't have as much power running through the butt to really grunt the fish with the 4120, but you would normally play a mullie or shark for a bit to tire him out anyway. Certainly well built rods that will last you many seasons

I own a GS9, and it's a gutsy old beast, there wouldn't be a fish in the sea that I'd be afraid to tackle with it. And they hold their value really well. But you made the right choice with the Penn, if I had my moolah again I would have invested in something newer definately, although there is absolutely nothing wrong with the GS9. They are rated as the toughest surf reel ever made, and I'm sure the reason they do still make them is not just for their retro-cool (hey i hear retro is in fashion :sick: ), but also because their indestructability.

you'll get the occasional squid off there.However the jetty is amazing for trevors! And certainly XL tommies!!

i boycotted gulp for this exact reason! Squidgies compensate for any loss with what seems for me a better price and greater rewards.

I've had issues with nitros and squidgies bending out on me. I really like the gamakatsu jigheads

I've never flown before abut I know that they're knarky as just visited airports they are always on ya case.Anyway, I'll wrap my Daiwa gS9 and put that in luggage, but I'll keep my 2000 Sol (without the line) with me on the plane. I'm only taking two rods (just crappy old Shimano Grahite anyway)which I have a hard case for, but I don't have have a long enough hard case for my surf rod so that will be left at home. And any lures wil have to be in cargo. Cheers!

Hey guys, I'm catching a flight in a couple of weeks and just wanna know if there's anything particular I can't/shouldn't take on the flight. I'm assuming hooks and whatever will be fine as long as it's not in hand luggage. However wouldn't mind my sol coming in with hand luggage. Cheers!

Some Big swell can push through there, many a famous break around the parts s it isn't surprising. I'll be around them parts at the same time as you Carps, prob won't run into each other tho as I'm based in Lincoln. As long as someone off the site claims it I'll be a happy man!
