  1. First Mod i did when i took ownership of the Paj...Allows me to stow rods fully rigged & a couple of spares slots for fishing buddies
  2. Great read & as you say something to tick off the bucket list.
  3. Oh....it decorated the Yak alright. It was so big & heavy i had nowhere to put it apart from sitting in the footwell. It spewed up heaps of Black ink. It was a bugger to skin....very tough to break the membrane, & get your hand in & work it away from the flesh hood. The exposed flesh is very soft compared to squid.Had another try tonight with breadcrumbs, again in Peanut oil. Deebloodylicious
  4. It actually cooked up alright with flour, salt n pepper in Peanut oil.As others have said it's quite rich, so kept the qty quite minimal. Not bad tucker.
  5. Picked up this monster the other night...So....whats your tried & tested recipes ? & what would you leave for the KGW's ?
  6. A garden fork should be your weapon of choice & as kelvin said.....Speed.
  7. As this thread has attracted a great deal of attention from current 4WD Buffs & on a slight tangent to the initial query i posted, i have another related question What are SH's experience/preference with power inverters & air compressors ?My needs would only be to charge a Laptop / Battery for a Kayak Sounder / Camera battery / rechargable light etc. (low consumption ). However also require a suitable compressor to reinflate tyres without having to wait eons Whats your thoughts on combination units ? 5 in 1 portables that are jump starters / working light etc. Are there any quality
  8. Well i think i've found my vehicle of choice. 99 Pajero 3L V6 Auto on Gas & Unleaded 190,000 on the clock. Full Mitsubishi service history. Just had a 200,000 service done.Last owner for 10yrs & appears to be a pretty maticulous oldboy.Sits in my original budget so i think it's a great deal. What do SH's think ?
  9. Thanks Guys for all your input so far. Irrespective of my own initial query, this thread has become a valuable source of info for anyone else now or in the future in a similar situation as myself. All part of why these Forums are devised right ? What are peoples thoughts on Holden Jackaroo's ? 3Lt TD 2000 model.
  10. That's the spirit SH's All your feedback & experiences are invaluable. As Ranger pointed out, the odd dune & scrub would probably be all i'd tackle, but who knows if i get bitten by the 4WD bug & wish to take things further.Archerfish - The forester ideas also worth considering. It would be easier to load the yak on too. I appreciate ALL your comments keep em comin
  11. My Budgets around 8 to 10K. I've noticed a lot have had rebuilds & various optional extras, so i suppose i'll take these all into consideration when narrowing down to a choice.Diesel or Petrol ?.It's only for myself, so SWB ?
  12. I'm currently looking out for a suitable 4WD for future fishing trips & am a bit over awe'd by the amount of choice.Has any SH's got recommendations in narrowing down a suitable choice ? I was looking at Surf's / 4 runners, but colleagues have suggested Patrols being more suitable as being more versatile.I have an idea of budget, & wish to use it for Kayak fishing expo's to York's & Eyre @ Xmas.your constructive comments would be most welcome :S
  13. 2nd batch are cooking in the fridge this time with Onion & Lemon. Should be ready to sample on Sun. This w/ends weather doesn't look too favourable for Gar fishing unfortunately. It's a shame they take a week to cook, but their worth the wait, although i think the lads at work are keen to taste this latest batch.
  14. Well 1 week on & i said i'd let you know how i go. Last week i filletted 8 Gar, sprinkled them with cracked black pepper & sea salt. Rolled them up & placed them in a jar. Covered with white vinegar, i had no onion in the house, so placed some large lemon pieces in the space left & popped them in the fridge.1 week passed & tonight i tried them on some ryvita with some cream cheese.....Simple & delicious Can't wait to get out & snare a few more mini marlin & experiment with different vinigers & additives. Maybe Capers, chillis, onion.Thoroughly recommend an
  15. A couple of months back i popped into my local tackle world to get a few reels spooled up with various braids & one of my choices was 4lb Nanofil. The guy serving me popped back after a few minutes telling me he was having difficulty spooling the reel due to the line constantly breaking. Not sure what the setup was out the back of the store, but i'm thankful of the guys honesty. Think i steered down the FinsBraid or Sunline route in the end.
  16. Thanks Guys. Top advice. Time for a little experimentation.I'll keep you posted how they turn out.
  17. Has anyone tried pickling Garfish ?
  18. Now that sounds like a Holiday Please post a trip report when you return.
  19. I can't say the skin tainted the flavour although it was possibly moister than i would have liked. I'll Certainly consider skinning next time, but definitely want to try smoking a few.
  20. Cheers. I decided to keep it simple & baked it whole with a slice of lemon & S&P. Turned out beutifully. A lovely delicate flavour & texture & no wasted meat.
  21. Picked up a corker of a Sweep today, so thought i'd see what they cook up like, but i've no idea how to go about it ?Bake whole ? Fillet ? They look similar to the Travally family.....do they smoke well ? Help......don't want to waste it !!
  22. Any tips on how to prepare freshly caught bloodworms for storing longterm? I had heard a quick dunking in meths toughens them up prior to freezing?
  23. They ranged from 25 to 30cm & the Snaps were all around the 25 mark. All taken on slithers of Pilchard. As Mango said the Trevs turned out to be a big hit with my colleagues at work. Unfortunately i'm now gonna have to ration them out
