  1. Hey Jack. I've done the Salisbury to the mouth trips a thousand times (fisho talk, probably around 50 times) both for mouth fishing and also to take the kids to play and spend a day out. As said, the entrance is very soft at the moment, lock in the 4x4 and keep momentum. I usually go close to the mouth, before it splits and has a warning sign about the soft sand, set a up a gazebo, throw out a couple witches hats as a border/limit for the kids and to alert any traffic, and the kids have a ball building castles and collecting shells. It's a pretty easy trek, the last stretch can be very soft, i always drop my tyres down to 15psi as if i have the kids with me, the last thing i want is to be stuck. I have a high volume air pump here if you want to borrow it mate, no worries. I always take it with me but end up taking it easy once back on the bitumen and fill them up at the servo, only a 5 minute drive. Entrance to mouth is 10km in total, theres a loo at the entrance, i take a portable one too (which your welcome to borrow) as the girls always gotta go when the fish start biting!!

  2. Having just bought my first tinnie, a creek mully for me. Having always had larger boats it's usually launch and straight out to sea. I'm going to concentrate on our creek systems this year. I have caught a lot of land based mullys over the years, but never a legal one from the boat. I wouldn't shy away from any tips on where to start either....JACK!!!

  3. Anyone know where i can get a Fish Size and Limit Sticker' date=' the ones with a ruler like you have stuck on boats? looking to get one for my icebox, always forget the bloody brag mat and have to dig through the tackle box for a tape measure lol.. thanks guys B)[/quote']Just bought one today from BCF Gepps Cross. $6.00 Hope this helps :)
  4. At least the larger operators feed their basa pellets' date=' some of the small back yard producers grow their fish on livestock fecies [/quote']Your spot on there mate. On one visit to Vietnam, I had the "privilege" of viewing one prawn farmers setup. An open dam approximately 150mtrs square, with a pump on either end circulating and stirring up all the crap off the bottom. It had dead cats floating in it, shit, which I'm sure was human and plastic rubbish. When I questioned the guy on the shrimps diet he said, and I quote "all natural, like in the wild, they find their own food".... Ummmm, no dead cats floating in Spencer Gulf that I can recall. Consequently, after a report back to AQIS he was closed down.
  5. As a FORMER seafood importer, the doco above is absolutely spot on, but, quite a few years old now. The first introduced basa fillets to come into Australia were from Vietnam and Taiwan, with Taiwan being the preferred due to their 'cleaner' processing techniques. The main imports now come from Thailand, which believe it or not, have a stricter hygiene process than our main fish processors in Australia. Thailand fish farms with an Australian export licence have their own fish breeding and cannot process wild caught fish for export, therefore their fish do not have the pollutants that the wild caught WILL have. Having said that, the fish are feed with steroid enhanced pellets and are injected with hormones derived from urine of pregnant females to allegedly promote body and egg growth. All in all, death on a plate. It doesn't stop there, Barramundi, whole and filleted, Red Snapper fillet's, Golden Snapper fillet's, Hake and Hoki fillet's etc... all imported and all packed to the brim with either pollutants or steroids. Having supplied over 70% of the restaurants and 50% of the Super Markets in Adelaide, i can bet that if you've eaten out and ordered seafood, you can just about guarantee you would of consumed some of this crap. Fish Fingers are 90% of the time made with wild caught NZ Hoki or Hake fillet's and are actually a very nice fish. Don't even get me started on PRAWNS!! Simple rule, if it isn't a Southern King Prawn, DON'T EAT IT!! Squid, shrimps, octopus, crab sticks... BAD news. Simply put, if your eating out, do as i do, ask where it's from, still unsure? Ask to see a packet stating origin and processing info, yes we do send Australian seafood overseas to be processed and packaged due to cost's, once processed, it's packed full of "beautiful" preservative's to "keep it fresh". From bad to "good" imported seafood, India, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand. Best bet, grab your fishing gear and have a relaxing day catching your Australian caught dinner.

  6. just discovered two great apps for fishing.fishing times lite is a free app giving you major snd minor fishing times for the day as well as tide time ans moon/ sun rises and setting times.its free ' date=' and greeat but only gives you todays info. fishing times pro for $1.99 gives you the same info but you can look ahead at any date.it helps if you have your location service switched on, from there you can acceess a map and ask for info for anywhere in oz.also found shralp tide, free again, and gives you tide times. hold the phone on its side and it gives you a running graph of the tide, allowing you to scroll over the graph pinpointing time and exact height at that time.it allows you to look a few days in advance too.again, switch your location service on.hope this is handy or maybe its already well known.nicksure apps exist for android phones too, just google it and find them[/quote']Thanks Nick, That's a handy one!! There's this one also if you go boating and your gps fails, Adelaide Fly to Maps, i've loaded all my spots into it. It's saved me once when my gps lost it's shit and didn't wake up. :c  Thanks again for sharing mate.
  7. I bought 500 meters of 50lb multi coloured braid from an aussie seller on ebay for $39.00 delivered. Have been using it for months, not an issue yet!! I have pulled in some good size kings and shark on it, no problems bar the fact i learnt the hard way that you need to spool your line with some mono first!!

  8. I've recently decided to do the same and bought 500 meters of multi colour 50lb braid off of eBay, good brand, $40. I'm planning the do two of my rods in braid as i've never used it before. You tube has some very explanatory videos on knot tying and also this little gadget.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VefOpV2sa3g

  9. Fishies on the money here' date='best bet for them would be to try a barrumindi pellet,or chicken pellet ,put it on the hook with a small rubber band, or bait mate, drift it down to them with a tiny split shot about 2 ft from the hook.No expert here but I"d be of the idea that they are a school of escapees from a pen, bought up on a diet of pellets, the natural aproach of livies ect makes no sense to them, they are only young and havent had to fend for themselves long hunting down prey,a pellet is what they associate with food.Nice work to actually get one B) but give thinking outside the square a crack and see what happens, even a tiny piece of brown bread with a drop of tuna oil then moulded around the bend of a size 8 suicide hook may bring one undone.Cheers B)[/quote']Mate, that scenario never even crossed my mind. Well done  I will definately try that next trip as like you said, livies to them are just mates cruising around with them. Thank you very much for that advice and tip. Gimbles
  10. What we found is that they'll have a decent look and sometimes have a go at squid strips/tentacles unweighted. Use at least 2-3m of flourocarbon leader too as I'm convinced they shy away when they can see the line and hook.Is very frustrating though when you can almost reach over the side of the boat and grab one by the tail

I agree with everything you wrote here mate. I've caught one on an unweighted piece or gar fillet. Another stomped a sand whiting I was pulling in. Gimbles
  11. For small ones like that try berleying with heaps of finely chopped pilly bits' date=' downsize your tackle to 3kg or so and drift down unweighted pilly bits the size of your berley on about a size 4-6 octopus style hook. Finesse when they're finicky! :fishing:[/quote']Thanks Whyallabrad. I'll give this a crack mate and let you know how I go. Thanks again. Gimbles
  12. I've found a few spots in metro waters where some juvenile Kingfish are lurking. I've caught and released a couple as i dont like there taste but they are an awesome little fighter. The one's i caught took me hours of baiting, burley and luring. On a good day i can see the school under my boat, they hang around (they might like the music on my radio haha) but i can drop bait, live or dead, plastics lures etc.. and they wont take. I've actually dropped a live tommie on ones head... zip, he just moved out of the way!!!! Are the buggers on a diet or is there a certain time of the years when they are more active? Any info would be great, as they are great catching!!! Thank youGimbles

  13. How'd you go Grimbles? I need some Snapper/Whiting bait!
Hahaha. Sorry Dan' date=' you'll have to stop in at your local tackle shop mate!! Haven't tried yet' date=' i did go a few times with the intention of squidding but ended up getting side tracked fishing. A monday sickie is looking good :fishing: Gimbles[/quote'']Ha! I actually meant I might head out and catch some myself  Good luck if you get out on Monday.
:laugh: I thought you were winding me up for some bait!! haha. Actually went out yesterday around the black pole. Few squid there, few tommies too. No red fish though :c
  14. halco-twisty-lure-4252-210x210.jpgHey buddy. When i first started out catching bream i used a small #4 hook, 3 ganged on a running sinker rig with white bait, never failed. For lure i used a 10gram chrome steel holographic lure ($3.50 at Kmart) also worked awesome. I always started off on bait til i get hookups then switch to lure. Enjoy and happy fishing.Gimbles
