  1. i've had zero luck on lucanas jigs, dont rate them at all and i dont see why these would be any different. other people reckon that the lucanas jigs are good though so maybe i need to trial them a bit more, use them as the sinker or something
  2. Don't know if it is relevant but my boat is a Haines Hunter V17L
  3. cheers nickmav, was that clears as well or just the canopy? im sure he would be able to do rocket launchers as well if i asked him. What about u Moggy, do u or ur lad know anyone who does them?
  4. As most of you would be aware, i live in Whyalla and on the 8/2/14 i am taking my boat to Coast Road Motors in Ardrossan for a service and some other work. I want to get a canopy and rocket launchers fitted as well but he doesnt do canopies there and i reckon it would be better to get it done together. i was thinking of bringing it to Adelaide to get it done, can anyone recommend somewhere for me to take it? if you know of what sort of price i might be looking at as well that would be helpful.Cheers
  5. well, took the boat out yesterday after work for a quick sesh. ended up in about 10ft of water flicking around soft-plastics for snapper. on my 3rd cast i hooked a nice flathead which swam straight to the surface and gave me a good eyeball of it before spitting out my plastic and swimming back down. i was spewing but happy as well because mate Will and I had always suspected that we would get flathead in this spot and now we had confirmation that they were there. Will hooked and landed a nice snapper not long after which i reckon would have gone 42cm but he wanted to make sure so put it up to t
  6. fear-mongering. there are always sharks around, people just need to accept that if u enter their territory then there is a chance, albeit a very slim one, that u will be attacked. deal with it or dont go in the water. simple. im sick of the media using some peoples fear of sharks. surprised they didnt say something like "could be linked to the boat nearby using burley to attract garfish"
  7. Pt Lowly for Snapper, Sharks and possibly a Kingfish!
  8. seems to me that they are really good rods for the money (i had 2 but had one mysteriously snap as detailed above) but if u get a dud it can snap over nothing. i am a Shimano user through and through but hearing all these stories about jewels breaking makes me wonder if i should be looking at other brands a bit more. if a rod is in warranty and it breaks it should be replaced unless it can be proved that it was high sticked or mis-used and really, how can they prove that?
  9. my Jewel snapped as well, was casting a very small whiting sinker. i liked the rod but wont be buying another after that and having heard that urs broke as well...hmmm, dodgy batch perhaps? whatever, anyone else had a Jewel snap on them, i know its a fairly popular rod.i have been meaning to get a new rod but in the meantime gone back to my ol' faithful 1-4kg Ugly Stik, will probably stick with that for all my whiting bait fishing and look at a new dedicated setup for SP's and lure sesh's.
  10. i might have a bit of a sound over it and see if it has any life on it, i got a fish on it a few days before the ban, 17lb, think i told u? so yea, my mate has some blocks of yellowfin whiting frames and i have an assortment of fish and squid in the freezer which i might lob down on it...or just wait til i get out there on the open day and burley the shit out of it, from what ur saying ur expecting there to be a few people hitting it up.
  11. might have to if the weather allows, what do u reckon, is that where ur gunna fish the open?
  12. i guess i was just surprised as i never thought of gar as a predatory fish. We all use gents to catch them of course but whenever i gut them I've only every noticed weed in them. What do they eat normally and what do they they think the gents are?
  13. it certainly is interesting. I daresay that Sharks are a whole lot smarter than Snapper and other fish but for a long living fish like Snapper that have pretty specific patterns that they follow ie congregate to breed in say october thru January, cruise around and visit specific areas at specific times of the year. take Whyalla as an example, i have personally found that they around the Northern drops in late winter/spring but more further south after the ban and throughout summer/autumn as a general rule. if a certain spot was religiously burleyed for a few years then i spose its not out of t
  14. true enough. i was just surprised, these plastics really do throw up some unexpected scenarios dont they?! anyone else have any stories of garfish on lures?
  15. i was recently flicking around a 110mm squidgy flickbait in white pearl colour for some salmon and flatties (got a few nice salmon but not even a hint of a flattie. i saw a wide brown shape following at one point and got mega excited but when it got closer saw that it was a tail biting little puffer) and had more than a few follows from a few nice sized garfish. Now, i know that some of you will be thinking that they could have been little Snook but i am as certain as u can be without actually catching the fish in question that they were Garfish. Has anyone else had follows from Garfish on SP'
  16. just found out they are a limited edition, only 200 made and given to 10 shops throughout Australia! Anyone manage to get there hands on one? Or know which shops got them?
  17. any update on this jag? have they made it? is so, where are they selling them?
  18. could even change the direction of the thread and ask what is the biggest/heaviest fish you have landed on the lightest gear, whether that be mainline or leader or both. i personally have not really done alot of ultra fishing, as discussed at the start of the thread i have just bought some 4lb to try out but probably the best i have done would be a 2.5kg ish salmon on 8lb leader. off the top of my head anyway. im hoping to change that this summer though.whats you best line breaking strain to size of the fish moment?
  19. Jimbojames, i can see what ur saying, i agree to an extent but since at this stage i pretty much have one reel that does all my light work i would prefer to have a good strength main line and adjust the leader to suit conditions if u know wat i mean. having said that, i dont fish for mulloway. im planning on saving up for another reel and putting 6lb braid on it for a true light setup and seeing how i go with that.
  20. i can perhaps see a few big 20kg bags of grain or chicken pellets dropped on the same spot every few days maybe work for whiting in shallow water, or at least help a bit, but it would get pretty expensive. i wonder if pros or charter guys do it on their drops, i know they make their own drops to ensure fish, would make sense to feed it iup as well? although making a quality drop with lots of structure would be way more likely to attract and hold fish than a small bit of burley i would think.
  21. my mate who uses pilchard in a can also reckon if u throw over grain or other like substances they grow in the water or stuff grows on them that the fish feed on. dunno about the grain growing in salt water but i can see it releasing slowly and keeping fish around, grain keeps fish at wallaroo and pt giles doesnt it?
  22. So, we all have a favorite drop (or 3). A "Spot X" if you like. whether it be natural bottom or a drop that has been made out of car bodies or whatever. I'm not necessarily talking about snapper either, could be a whiting drop or a flatties drop or a mixed bag drop. DO U FEED IT UP? have u found that dumping burley there regularly keeps it fishing well? do u sometimes go out and burley it up and not fish it that day? what do u use, i have heard chicken pellets can do the job and i use them for my surface burley mixed with tuna oil or throw them out loose on shallow whiting spots. i have a mate
  23. just wondering what everyone uses on their plastic outfits? i have a standard "light" outfit that i use for all my light work, be it bait fishing for whiting or pan sized snapper or lure fishing for salmon, squid, snook, flatties or snapper (and whatever else might latch on). the mainline atm is 10lb braid on a Shimano Saros 2500. i change the rod's around but lately been using an old nibble tip ugly stick, gunna take the plunge soon though and get myself a decent rod, im thinking a Samaki. Anyway, the point of the thread was to find out what pound line people run on their light outfits. do u
  24. i use 8/0 gamakatsu octopus hooks exclusively for my snapper fishing, generally i snell 2 together around 100mm apart. they are great hooks and stay sharp for multiple fish, if the snap-daddy swallows it i always get it out on the filleting table and re-use it. 60lb trace is what i snell them together with and i always use a running sinker.
