  1. thats interesting, when i sit back and think about it i have seen some snapper that come from NSW and QLD that would only be 4-7kg with huge weird bumps on their head and lipsi havent seen any from SA with this amount of growth, has anyone?
  2. haha maybe, not very deep and on top of the gunwales. more cosmetic than anything but im just wondering if there is an easy way to fix them or if its a lot of work?
  3. i have been using small vibes and 70mm flickbaits in evil minnow colour very successfully for fish locally up to 40cm. they hit the vibes bloody hard, its great fun
  4. noticed a few scratches in my fibreglass boat and was just wondering how hard they are to fix without any prior experience? if too hard how much to get them filled and where?
  5. never tried either of those but have caught them on trevelly flesh
  6. im so disillusioned by politics, i just want the country to be run by someone who has Australia's best interests in mind and not by people looking to gain status etc. put the money into the places it needs to be put, in this case fisheries, and get things sorted. i could go on all day about it as im sure alot of people could but i would be wasting my breath. all we can do is do the right thing ourselves and report those who do the wrong thing. if nothing happens then... :pinch:
  7. i went to Giles Jetty yesterday after seeing ur post that it would be open...it wasnt  wonder if they just forgot or something?
  8. i do that already, what about bottom to look for or particular signs that may indicate a fish, i was reading that he doesnt think that structure is overly important?
  9. anything from that course that u found especially helpful u would be willing to share?
  10. looking at everyones list i have come across several species that i have caught and didnt put on my list but thats ok, i was writing the list for my own benefit and figured i might as well chuck it up on here. i could even start a thread on which fish people want to catch most, for me it would be a giant trevally (hopefully on a popper), a kingfish (any method)and a spanish mackeral. and a 50lb mulloway. and all the things that jeremey wade and robson green catch. lol
  11. just thought i would start a thread on this subject as i was having a think about what fish i have caught over the years and wanted to see what other people had caught. my list, as much as i can remember at least, is as follows:SnapperKG WhitingYellowfin WhitingSalmon Trout (yet to catch a proper Salmon, hoping to change that this weekend)TommiesGarfishBlue MorwongNannygaiSwallowtailChowBluefin TunaFlathead (never the intended target though, im also hoping to change that this weekend)Snook (got my first that wasnt on a paravane bout 2 weeks ago, got it on a little metal :cheer: )all the shit
  12. i use two 8/0's snelled bout 100mm apart for all my snapper fishing, pannies have no trouble getting them down their gobs and unless the fish is bigger than, say, 6kg, they dont generally swallow it so u dont need circles.
  13. im def gunna give lures a go, i reckon i will set one bait rod up and while im waiting for that to scream off flick lures around. i will go and get a few lures to flick around from the tackle shop, hard bodies, SP's and some metals for the salmon. i have a few already but i want to go get more, anyone got any recommendations?
  14. yea i got hornes as well, havent missed a beat. you can even get steel caps put in them if u want, i didnt bother but the bots on mine are blundstone, heaps comfy
  15. yea man, or a running sinker. or unweighted. whatever. go and do it, try things and see what works. if u try hard enuf for long enuf u will get one eventually.
  16. Cheers brenton, u reckon that bait or lures would be the go for bream? as i am not an eperienced lure fisherman i am thinking bait, i have heard that small crabs and shrimp are the best, unweighted or on a small ball sinker?
  17. I am heading to Edithburgh next weekend from Whyalla from Wednesday evening until Sunday. Having read all the threads on here and magazine articles on catching Bream i am keen to have a crack at catching one whilst i am there. Back when i used to live in Adelaide i used to catch undersize ones in Westlakes but now i would like to catch a bigger one. I was hoping for some info on how to go about successfully targeting them around Edithburgh. i will be landbased. i have a few lures and also dont mind soaking baits (although i would like to spend a bit of time flicking lures more so than using ba
  18. u sure they aren't Salmon Trout? hard to see from the photo but they dont appear to have the black tips on the tails that Tommies have and very yellow fins?
  19. took my mate and his missus out on saturday arvo. she hadnt been out on a boat before so thought i would start with something easy so we went squidding, did pretty well, bagged out in about 2 odd hours, couple of monster "Mt. Youngies" in there
  20. Just a quick write up on what Rocknev (aka Nev) can do when he works with metal...during the snapper comp the bracket that my chair sits on was broken when i hit a wave a bit quick, the person sitting in it went flying down to the back of the boat. broke 3 of the four arms on the bracket.went to the boat shop to see about getting a new one, the boat is a mid 80's Haines Hunter so i wasnt expecting much and i was right, they didnt even have the same sized hole for the pole that i needed. wondering what i could do i rang my mate Nev who is a boilermaker and asked what he could do. he said bring
  21. Went out on Tuesday night with my mate Will and a workmate and got 36 squid in 2 hours :woohoo: . we were pulling into the ramp just as the sun disappeared, timed it pretty well. most of the squid were of a reasonable size with a few "Mt. Youngies" (that is what my mate and i call XOS squid after last winter when every time we fished around Mt Young we got enormous squid, and lots of them)
  22. thats what its about wadey, hopefully some big snapper will replace all the undersized ones soon. Scaley Tom, yea i heard that alot of people were pushing the boundaries to the limit, i would have thought that the authorities would have been super hot on it but obviously they werent. maybe because a ship wasnt in? dunno. anyway, i have heard reports that it hasn't produced fish in the last couple of days, i wonder where they have gone? let the hunt commence
  23. yea mate, other than the rain on Saturday the weather was fantastic all weekend. its good as well today but i got the boat to clean and that's going to take awhile i reckon
