  1. Why do they want to extend the breakwater? Not mentioned in the planning documents.
  2. ........... almost 75 years ago.http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/54161011?searchTerm=mulloway&searchLimits=There are some great stories on the national archive website "Trove". The one about the mulloway being knocked out by a steamer at Pt Pirie is a cracker. Well worth a search for your favourite fish.
  3. Just take it one step further. We as rec fishers have a right to access our fisheries. Fishing is a "worldwide human right" after all. Maybe except for the San (bushman is Southern Africa). Lets say a market develops for KGW and the quotas are tightened up so a very few profit at the expense of us all. You can see where I am going. As an example we recs are already screwed with snapper. We take SFU and cop all the restrictions for the avarice of the pros. This decision by the high court at least in the court of public opinion be used as ammunition for us to access fisheries. As for 20 abs - get
  4. My last comment was pretty poorly segued to the idea I was proposing. If the undersize and over the limit fish/seafood were tommies, KGW, squid, mulloway etc etc that those indigenous dudes were raping from the ocean it would have never reached the high court. I'm keen to discuss
  5. I don't agree with you. What we have is a capitalistic greed driven industry that I have been involved in that makes millionaires, most who never don a mask, and are even syndicates, filthy rich. All to sell to SE Asian Millionaires a product that you nor I can afford to purchase. Same with crayfish. The reason why they probably took undersize abs is because people like me have been there before and taken all the good fish that the recs good can not get at due to the depth and time it takes to know where they are. I can expand on this if you want. What this case really represents is access to f
  6. This is an interesting topic. An issue I would like to highlight is that the High Court decision is really about holes in the state government laws. It isn't about the character or ethnicity of the defendants. If any of us where in the same situation where we thought we were right in a legal sense then why shouldn't they have every opportunity to take it as far as they can? I am cognisant of the financial support provided though which the average racist anglo bogan wouldn't get (I'm one as well). An example of what I mean is the anti-bikie laws in QLD seemingly getting around laws, enshrined i
  7. Just calm down princesses.I'm 1/16th indigenous, great grandmother was half. From what tribe I have no clue. It seems it was rather embarrassing back then in SA but socially acceptable none the less To the point. I have no problem with indigenous persons being given some and limited exemptions from the regs. I have no problem with them taking undersize abs for instance if it is only for personal consumption and is not a commercial amount. I have dived and shelled abs all the way from north of Wallaroo (where the snapper are land based) to through to Port Rickaby. A few undersize abs here and
  8. I just prefer to have the breaking strain listed in lbs or kgs and the diameter as well. Allows for comparisons between lines, especially mono. But braids are a different beast, not too many break anywhere near their rated strength and then break really early for quick hits.Regardless of the breaking strain of the line, if you don't know when your rod is about to break or overloaded I don't think anybody can help you
  9. The only time I have ever had wind knots is with FINS braid.Terrible stuff. It doesn't slide over itself very easily on the spool and grabs the line underneath it pulling big birds nests out. Pauly S,Seem like FINS might have some quality control issues if you don't have problems?
  10. That is your problem. Last year or last seaon? Cockles, like everything, has a shelf life in the freezer. They will be better though if you can freeze them down really quickly.Did you have any power outages? They may have semi-thawed.After I defrost my frozen cockles I always shell the remainder and salt them down. I still have some that are 18 months old that are fine to use. They stay in a boat in a jar for emergencies. I don't notice the difference in their fish catching abilities although they do shrink so maybe need two - three on a hook sometimes.
  11. I spent the weekend near Port Victoria on the beach (with the boat). I caught one 40cm + KGW on the drift, picked up the school on the sounder and thought it would be on. Not to be, it was too late in the day and the tide had dropped. Squid were brilliant though. Dolphins and one lonely seal herded a school into the little bay we were camped at and I was catching them at my feet. At one stage the dolphins were tossing them through the air with a head shake, just for shits and giggles I suppose. The water was that shallow that gulls were diving and picking them off.
  12. Just because that seal is on the beach here does not necessarily mean it was attacked anywhere near (not saying it isn't thoug). Sealions travel 100s of K and and many days out so he might not have had the puff to make it back to his colony. His colony does not even have to be in this gulf.
  13. If you do get into wanting to cast further you might want to consider top shotting your reels with some braid. Then you can do a nice tight bimini onto some wind on mono leader, or tie something like a slim beauty or yucatan knot, onto some normal heavier mono. It is just tidier with smaller knots and the braid should get you a few more yards. I double all the time with my TLD25 and 50 lb mono. The knot does look rather large but I can still cast a goodly distance with a 9 ft LBG rod. Far enough on most surf beaches anyway to get some sharks. Maybe the knot might do some long term damage to th
  14. I use wind on leader quite a bit for braid. It is really good to be able to load up a rod with a heavy bait on 100lb leader for casts. With mono I'd just tie a really big loop with a bimini twist (best way but you'll need a mate to help with a big loop) or a spider hitch. Then tie that double line to your terminal tackle. I can normally get about 4 metres of double line so negate the need for a wind on leader.
  15. And some Kingfish sashimi. Up there with Tuna.None of it will be going to waste, although a lot will be going to waist
  16. Just about to eat the fruits of my labours. Blue morwong and some abalone patties. Managed some tommies, snook, whiting, blue groper, school sharks, gummies, squid, salmon, nannies. And maybe just another king in my lucky red t-shirt :cheer: And here is the tummy contents. One small cuttlefish, a lonely Tommie and a pretty digested pilchard.
  17. The top ones are referred to "coast lock" by some manufacturers. I use them but am starting to tie direct to swivels. I did forget to close one once and lost a spanish mackeral and a good lure. Oops.
  18. 8000 size baitrunner D, 50lb braid, 80lb wind on leader.
  19. I'll pm you on that. But keep the fowlers bay Tommie secret safe
  20. It tastes awesome as wellb
  21. I'm at fowlers bay. Here for the week solo.I'm pretty happy It was a bit hard to get in the boat by myself but good practice. Had the trace in my hands probably 6 times and had to drop it and the gaff and quickly grab the rod.
