  1. Don't listen to me. The first decent spinning reel I ever owned (my second) was a shim baitrunner I got for my 40th six years ago. Prior to that all overheads. So I cannot wind a reel with my left hand worth a damn. I gave it a go for a day and ended up with RSI like symptoms. I tried because casting over and over and swapping over is inefficient. I can absolutely see why chucking SP all day for Bream winding with your left makes sense. I don't do much of that type of fishing. If you bottom bash catching snaps and kgw it really doesn't matter much - to me. Plus I'm too old to change
  2. Try and find anyone who is right handed and winds an overhead with their left hand. There is your answer. And we have bigger fish, pump the rod up with both arms, right hand to spinning reel handle then grind away, repeat.
  3. Ah ha. Wouldn't a baitcaster be better for this?
  4. I never got the switch. Apparently useful in the UK fishing for carp? Maybe like a baitrunner
  5. http://www.alanhawk.com/blog/care.html Here you go. He says it a lot better.
  6. When he means storage I think he means "long term storage". Any dry salt will eventually corrode the spool. With braid and mono instead of buying new line for two reels I'll wind old line onto a stripped reel to expose the new line. Braid should last almost forever anyway but you get nice new line. If I do this I would wipe the spool when empty.
  7. You're in trouble then. You have a few nights reading to get through them all
  8. For fans of Alan Hawk new Daiwa BG review is out http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/bg16.html Looks like an interesting reel Maybe one of the smaller ones for KGW is in my future.
  9. Like Mr Fish I have only used black magic in 15 and 30 lb so don't have a solution! But both are hard to get a knot to tie up nicely without grabbing. Sometimes they grab and knot up too early and you can't shift the knot. I don't like using it for this reason and am still getting through the two spools I bought. I switched back to normal mono for leader mostly. If their is a supple one that ties well i might be tempted to use it for flicking small HB and SPs over coral bombies at the end of the year so will wath this topic closely.
  10. I had a problem with my 2010 Dogfight that wasn't related to the mag seal but to the wrong grease in the anti-reverse clutch. Repaired under warranty. The dogfight has been brilliant since then and I can't fault it. It has been smashed around a fair bit and caught some decent fish. I have got a 2015 5500 Expedition that is yet to get a workout but will soon. The lack of magseal oil might be a pain for some but sending the reel away ever few years or so for a Daiwa service doesn't bother me too much seeing as how I have never cracked a spinning reel open gearbox/rotor wise. How many p
  11. I have a TLD25. A good mate has a TLD20. I reckon a 20 is better balanced and I don't think you'll need the extra capacity of the 25 for Kingies. The 20 casts a lot better as well if you want to use it for sharks and such off the beach.
  12. The river has been oxygen depleted before. Before all the locks, dams in NSW and Vic, the river used to dry into a series of muddy pools. Sure, there will be some short term pain but I think the long term gain is worth it. I also think the CSIRO has learnt a thing or two since Cane Toads. The work they do up here killing Salvinia weed in Kakadu is nothing short of fantastic. They just need more funding, that Abbott cut, and needs to be restored.
  13. Not a growth. Other fishes had been snacking on the gills and they were pulled out.
  14. Jeebus. I'd never heard or seen of the thing before. Thought this one might take awhile. You chaps ever seen one in the flesh before? Apparently they like to travel with Tuna schools and can get up to 2m long.
  15. Found by a mate in the water at Port Norlunga. Fairly rare and described in my book as a 'superlative food fish'. Never seen or heard of one of these before this. It had been dead for a bit so the colour has faded
  16. I have found that when Tuna, salmon, trevally, mackeral etc are feeding on the surface or just below it you can chuck anything at them that looks like a baitfish of the pilchard kind and it will get eaten. Lures like the duels, halco c-gar and outcasts and rapala long cast series have worked well for me. My favorite at the moment is the rapala X-rap sub walk. So I reckon that Fish Inc lure would work pretty well.
  17. I was a bit surprised to see the price tag on those reels. I guess the thinking was that the Slammer name stood for their heavy duty reel series. The Spinfisher V incorporated many of the features of the original Slammers and sort of replaced the line. I guess the question is, how much better is the $300 slammer compared with the $100 version and is it worth it? May as well spend the money on a Shimano Spheros or Saragosa?
  18. No worries. We'll just have to get out early from the creeks. Some of them I have in mind we won't be leaving until about 5pm if I screw it up! But can always have a flick around the headlands for Barra. The water is still really warm and people have still been catching them.
  19. Big tides that weekend - 7.5 m high, 0.86 low. Might be able to take you for a run on Sun morning. Fish the run out in some of the creeks. We'll catch sweet f&*^% in the harbour. What time will they have you back to work? I call Barra 'unicorns'.
  20. Have heard nothing but good things about this guy: http://www.shoalbaysportfishing.com/about-tours.html What day will you be up here?
  21. Stainless steel trolley? I'd be looking in shopping centre car parks around 3.00 am
  22. Sampsons and kingies on the deeper reefs respond well to jigs. Whe n they want them - fussy buggers that they are
  23. Another option is longer rod. This is what I use for the same purpose. Wilson 10-24 kg spin rod and a Dogfight.
  24. I have a few Terezs' and like them. I don't recommend them anymore because of the haters! If I was to have a dedicated off the rocks/jetty rod for casting it would be a Terez due to how robust the heavy versions are.
  25. Wilson do a 2 piece popping rod in the venom range. I have 2 venoms, both in the offshore spin range. They are nice rods.
