Bream on blades has been a fairly simple technique for me. Similar to how you would fish a soft plastic. Long cast, let it sink to the bottom and pause when it’s there. Pause for a second or 5 depending on the fish activity, and then lift and take up the slack. Let it back down to the bottom and pause again and repeat that until you recast.
I have also done alright with a burn and kill technique where you let it hit the bottom and then wind straight for 3-5 turns of the reel before pausing and letting it back to the bottom. Rinse and repeat etc.

Blades that have done me well are the Pro Lure V35, Savage Gear Minnow Blade 4g and EcoGear ZX35. Majority of the colours I’ve had success in are gold, black and orange. I also put scent on the blades too for added confidence.

Thanks for that I’ll go looking for all these when I can . And will try them out

These must be the easiest of lures to work. They also cast a mile with ease  ... Into the wind too!

Keep it simple. A constant rolling retrieve across the bottom of a sand flat, will have the Yellow Fin Whiting chasing and hitting it. Never pause with YFW. Keep retrieving even when they strike lightly. They will only chase and hit it harder.

If there is a little structure around, and a possible Flathead around, then I add in a few smooth rod lifts and drops.

This also applies for KGW when fishing the blueline weed edges.

I very rarely fish Bream areas but I have read they will hit them on the pause.

Apart from YFW and FH the Salmon Trout love them (annoyingly)...  aaand  ... Bloody Puffers too unfortunately !

I have had some success on FH and a few YFW with the Strike Pro and TT Lures models.

But the absolute stand out are the Ecogear ZX.

The largest 43mm size works best for me with YFW and FH. However drop down to 30mm if you are in a KGW area.

My favourite colours are; #418 - Bleeding Prawn and the #402 UV Pink

Always get some spare Assist hooks. They also work well on other surface lures.

Good luck. I am sure you will enjoy using them.

    Cheers Des.

Thanks DES I’ll keep them in mind . Don’t worry I’ve caught all those excluding FH on hardbodies trumpeter on them not on plastics .  Something for me to think about while I can’t fish . Light lure on light line I enjoy

  5. I did some looking yesterday . I may already have one in my collection. I’d like to know the best way to use them . On a 1-3 kilo rod 4 LB leader . I assume like a plastic sink two twitches repeat is that right ?

Funny this should come up I’ve bought some recently including a upcoming Father’s Day gift of an Adelaide crows fishing shirt . I purchased a Daiwa one from a certain store that gave me $20 off if I spent $50 so I selected that one in grey and a solar tube it was around the $50 mark for the 2 . Getting the $20 discount was hell on earth eventually they gave it to me for the discounted price . Now having time I googled a certain tackle shop on port road they had one up for a price went in there couldn’t find it the one I thought it was . Was marked just under $50 . I asked the person behind the counter and I got sorry no idea what your talking about . Person brought up their website ok we will match that price . Match a price on your website lmao . Anyway this one’s an owner fishing shirt better iirc sun protection. My advice always check prices and make certain you only pay what they advertise products for . Honestly it’s funny to me we give you $20 off but when you redeem it Um no we can’t do it then do it . And a shop advertised prices online then says no we didn’t but we will match our own price lmao

Ok yesterday there was a special at a certain store I can walk to so yes bought one more another 50 plus shirt . And my daughter remembered to bring the crows fishing shirt home for my Father’s Day gift lol . That’s 6 shirts in total including 1 got at the charity op shop I volunteer at . I think all the places that have these shirts can stop having them on sales I have enough lol

  7. Interesting about hats I had my daughter with me looking at BigW and Kmart problem mainly the ones i wanted had mesh in allowing sun through . So I paid a massive $8 😂for a hat from Kmart looks like I’m going to school but like a cricket one will keep the sun off as will they solar tube I bought . For myself long sleeve fishing shirt hat tube ect are to keep the sun off me . And those that know me by the waters edge no more shorts when it’s in the 30s

  9. I’m out of action but reading the replies . Slow retrieves then go slower. Have pauses count to 5 then retrieve . Now posters have mentioned structure very true . I learnt many years ago fly fishing for bream at the lake that shadows to bream are structure . Seeing it’s west lakes there’s areas I’ve caught bream in summer and then areas in cooler weather I’ve caught them . Lures for myself minnow shaped lures work well and sometimes smaller ones . Also beaches at the lake sometimes bream will sit on the clear sand between seaweed beds

just things I’ve learnt bream at the lake and sometimes the same at the Pat

before I forget if non fishing kayaks go past cast in their wake .  Not sure if dragon boats still go round the lake same with them. But skull boats seem to chase them away

It will cast better and increase your catch rate.

It also makes it easier to unhook the fish for a better release.

Been doing it to my freshwater hardbodies and really wish I had started using single hooks years ago.

And you can change them back to trebles quickly and easily if you want.

Actually this lure was difficult but I carry small fishing pliers one shake and the owner hooks came free . Sorry I thought you were just talking this lure . Casting issues on smaller lures I’m thinking my 2500 reel it had issues with double clutch lures as well

Well I’d say that because Daiwa make well over different 100 reels and models that it would be an easy thing to miss. All I did was go to Daiwa website and search for 1000 and they came up first click. The most common small Daiwa reels made now are 2000s which are similar in weight and line capacity to that of a Shimano, Abu, etc. As mentioned above, all you need to do is do some statistics checks/cross referencing and you’ll see similarities.

As I posted I was told what I wrote by a Tackleworld Australia employee that’s a fact . And I also wrote I’m not looking to buy one at this stage . Just found it strange that there were zero on the shelves of Tackleworld Australia .
I’m sorry if I upset anyone I was just shocked Daiwa stopped making 1000 size reels or I should say I was told that by an employee of Tackleworld Australia that’s all

There are 2 current Daiwa LT reels that you can get in a 1000 size. The Daiwa Revros LT and the new 21 Caldia MQ.

Funny Tackleworld worker told me Daiwa wasn’t making this size reel any longer

The sizes are not interchangeable in Australia, a Daiwa 2000 can be close to Shimano 1000. You have to compare capacity and weight, and well, just hold them.

If you want a small Sienna 1000 sized reel look at the Okuma Ceymar C-10, way better than the Sienna in quality terms and possibly a tad smaller, and just as cheap. Meppstas put me on to Okuma, I'd like to try more of their gear but not easy to find locally.

Thanks for that I just thought it was strange no 1000

I haven’t landed  one in 7 years on bream lure and light line . That was in  February . So I’d guess on lures it’s summer time can’t talk about bait fishing for them . Saying summer couple of years ago on a winter dodge tide in west lakes a school one or two ripped the trebles of my lure . I’m afraid it’s fishing trial and error

Before I forget I got very lucky on bream gear casting into large bait schools or salmon schools and landed mulleway. Three in three days lost a bugger one on day four . Not a bad by catch

  16. I know I’m a little behind on the news of reels . Had a spare moment went into TW just looking asked about Daiwa in size 1000 seems they don’t go that small now . Shimano do though . Funny that . When I got home I thought I’ll check out the last reel I bought Daiwa 2500 which I’ll use next trip out . I did feel old my sienna 1000 looks really old compared with the latest one :)

The only way you are going to find out is to buy one of each and go from there.

Well I have caught a lot of fish on S factor not as many on pro cure. Haven’t tried gulp hence I was asking about gulp everyone else jumped on the pro cure bandwagon I never asked about . Seeing I just bought another S Factor it might be awhile before I try gulp

The differences could be with scents as it works for one but not the other.

Does the location produce catches, what lure works in that area. What lure action is being used, does the colour or size work for you.Is it the right scent for the species.

So what's the right combination wtfk.🤪

Now I could throw in I have lures that catch salmon or STs in the Pat hand over fist but the same lure salmon in west lakes won’t touch . Not the same on bream lures though
