  1. Afternoon all, Over the last two years i have mainly been fishing catch and release, as i enjoy watching the fish swim away more than i would going to the effort of prepping it for the table. Now when i release a fish i often get other fishermen or pedestrians on jetties giving me dirty looks or questioning why i am releasing the fish. I am not sure whether they want to keep the fish for themselves as they rarely state the fact or whether they are just curious, So i just thought it would be interesting to see if some of you guys offer your catch to others before returning it to the water?Cheer
  2. Hey mate, If you are after free diving i have been to Rapid bay. Calm conditions is a must. The sea dragons and squid were fascinating to watch in the shallower water, while various other fish species make an appearance. :f If you are diving with a tank i have been hearing of a reef a little bit out from Second Valley.. Hopefully someone else can elaborate further as i am also starting to sort diving schools.Cheers, S121.
  3. Beach fishing - you should be in for a chance with Mullet, Yellowfin Whiting, and flathead. Be sure to post a report if you do well.Cheers, S121.
  4. Taken from PIRSA website.Hooks must not exceed 56mm in shank length and a gape of 23mm between 5am and 9pm.The use of any wire trace or a monofilament trace exceeding 1mm in diameter is strictly prohibited between 5am and 9pm.It is my understanding that if your hooks/leader etc. comply with the above rules, it should be all good..Perhaps someone could elaborate further?Cheers, S121.
  5. Some beautiful little streams you are finding out there - Way nicer than housework!
  6. Good work mate! love your enthusiam Keep up the good work.S121.
  7. Went for a day trip to the Murray River (near Mannum) yesterday. Managed to catch 5 Callap (a couple of 40cm specimens) 3 carp, and 7 Catfish . until this year I have only ever caught 1 other catfish in my life and have never seen anyone else catch one. Now they seem to be more abundant in the areas I am fishing than carp! Has anyone else noticed a significant number increase upon other areas of the Murray?

  11. Hey guys, Have heard through friends that the end of the jetty,(where the ship can dock) has been closed off to the public. Is this true? Will this ruin the fishing for bigger game, such as snapper?
  12. Cheers for the help guys! much appreciated.
  13. Hey guys, I have been looking into fly fishing over the past few weeks, and am really keen to start getting into it. I have been checking out quick vids on youtube, but are mostly vague. Just hoping someone could let me know the best set up to start with, some of the basics, IE: size of rod, line, etc. Cheers in advance!S121
  14. kadava was right, hunting Redfin. sorry for being vague. Cheers for all the help guys!
  15. Hey guys, just after some advice on soft plastics. I have been using them for quite a few months now and am yet to yield anything. Starting to think that my technique is wrong. Usually just cast it out with slow retrieve, though have tried flicking the lure every now and then. Mostly after some reds. Is my technique wrong or will persistence pay off?Cheers, S121.
  16. Cheers for all the info mate. Very Helpful!
  17. I have fished around Tennyson, couple of the quieter jetties. Was down at Rapid bay and the bluff yesterday. Rod: Jarvis Walker Tuff Tip 6'6" spin combo. Fin-Nor Rampage 2000 reel.basic patternoster rig, size 1 sinker to deal with swell, or a bit lighter when calm. 10lb line, have been using same for trace. size 6-8 long shanks, or 2.0 for something bigger. have tried cockle thread up the hook length, blood worm, squid strips(but get less bites) and pilchard cubes.
  18. As mentioned, looking for help or any advice on what could increase my chance of hooking a keeper for once.Lately, no matter where I fish, all I can find is the real undersized (under 20 cm) such as bream, silver trevally, Tommies. Have tried up-sizing hooks/larger bait, though they still manage to strip the bait before i have a chance to entice a larger specimen. Have been told that the bigger fish are a bit wiser and hang out deeper, not sure if this is true. Any advice is greatly appreciated.Cheers, in advance - S121.
  19. Definitely annoying. Had couple of guys, when i was at Brighton Jetty the other morning, choose a spot 3 metres away from me and first cast, tangle their line over mine. I know it is only a small minority, though you would think some people would have common sense.
  20. Cheers guys, very helpful! Will be sure to post pics.
  21. Hey guys,I am interested in targeting Flathead since i have heard it is a great fish to catch and the larger fish put up a good fight. Was just wondering where a potential spot around the Adelaide metro area would be to try my luck. Not asking for your secret spots, just a general area. Also what pound line/lures etc. would be best.Cheers in advance, S121.
  22. Cheers for the quick reply. I will be fishing where ever i hear the fish are biting. anywhere along the bottom end of SA.
  23. Hey all,Looking for some new land-based spots to try over the summer months. Recently only found small fish like Tommies, Mullet, whiting, etc. Now i am keen to catch something bigger, such as Kingies, Mulloway or whatever is keen to bite. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Michael.
  24. Woke up early this morning to fish Ardrossan Jetty. Water was rough and fast winds. lots of weed in the water. Few crabs around stealing bait, all under size however.about 45 minutes after high tide, couple of nice Mullet, and a dozen tommies. Good end to a disappointing start
