Hi fellas, thought I would kick start an old thread and see what you guys have been catching. This is my biggest mully, didn't get the weight but was 141cms tip to tip. Caught on the west coast a few years ago, been a mulloway drought for me since then unfortunately. A lack of fishing doesn't help, hahaha, cheers

40 kgs of hurt!

Hi guys,Haven't been online for ages but thought I would share a personal triumph of mine and believe it or not caught this bad boy from my own tub which makes it so much more meaningful. Caught down the south east about a month ago after a long fishing drought due to building a house and losing my job amongst other things. Bled weight was 108kg caught on a billmark skirt in Lumo. Outfit was okuma makaira 80w on custom status deluxe game rod. Also released one of similar size aswell which we didnt get any pics of as we were only 2 up and put the fishes health 1st for the release.Also special mention to my mate Shaun who was a big part of this, this kind of fishing is definitely a team sport.cheers

I got the new tiagra 50w to break in.. 30w needs the dust wiped off and my torsa is still sore from gettin smoked earlyer this year aha i took all light gear one weekend and hookd the most bigs, to bad landin them at this place is impossible

They Definatly are man. I don't care what anyone says about okuma the salina 2 and makairas are Awsome things. Salina still hasn't let me down after the beating its copped over the years

Yeah I did end up going down for a look lastnight as a mate of mine went out for a crack. Same thing balloons struggled to get 50meters out and when he did he packed it in and left to try and get some more bait.
 
I Rekon I saw those pilchards ur talking about. I thought they were gar or baby snook but then a school rocked up and yeah they were Definatly Pillies spewing no choona chased them in lol.

Put in two overnight sessions this weekend (friday night and saturday night) even though I know its quite early in the season. Went to semaphore on Friday night for absolutely nothing, despite managing to get the balloon out 150-200 yards very easily. Couple of big doggies pulled off the bottom and a bag of 52 tommies keep things moderately interesting.
 
Went to Henley last night. Few guys already sharking there when we got there, but were struggling to get the balloons out. A mate put a balloon out eventually, but struggled to get it more than 40-50m off the jetty, despite a nice easterly. Again, plenty of doggies around, also managed a few squid, gar, and even some big pilchards (definitely not slimeys).
 
Epic, and I mean ridculous amounts of sea lice at both jetties on both nights though, Balloon baits and bottom baits alike.......more lice than sand out there at the moment I reckon

This is just a few rigs but you get the idea I tend to do the same with my bottom

It's good in a few ways I suppose obviously to help with any electrical pulses sharks detect but also good to see weather or not u had a hit if unsure. A lot Easier to detect teeth marks or scuff in the heat shrink then bare nylon coating.
 
And yes also the cosmetic side the trace looks abit neater, not that a shark would care at all lol
