  1. PM replied to.I reckon it'd be a rare day that someone was fishing with a 14' rod wishing it was shorter. On the other hand, I have been geared up with a 12' rod and wished it was longer. You can crap in one hand, and wish in the other, and see which hand fills up first.I say: buy the longer one.Cheers.
  2. Gday. You didn't really state what specific information you were seeking in your original post. You did however ask for "opinions" which is what I gave.Go for the 14 foot model. It sounds like you'll need it.Cheers.
  3. An Albright can sometimes leave the stiff tail of the mono poking out at an angle at which it will foul on your guides while casting.I have had hassle-free casting with Double Uni knots. Just remember to do a few extra rounds with the braid - ie: 3 or 4 winds on the mono and 6 or 8 on the braid.Cheers.
  4. Gday.Ive got surf rods varying from 10' to 13'.I recently got given a 13' Sensor Surf and love it.Like previously mentioned: rod length is not the only thing that'll get baits a good distance. Rod action, timing, speed and technique need to be given thought too.A longer rod can help to keep your line out of the shorebreak but 2 feet in extra length makes only a small difference on the angle that your line goes out at. A higher/longer rod holder can often help.Good luck with the decision making. Let us know how you go.Cheers.
  5. Gday.Yes indeed, a Merry Christmas to all!I posted this about a year a ago and thought that it's about the right time to drag it up again.Cheers and Best Wishes.THE CHRISTMAS PERIOD CAN BE GOOD AND BAD FOR SOME...I've thrown a few lines in of late with mixed results but now it's time to go to work. No fishing for me for the next 9 days so...Merry Christmas to all. May everyone have a great festive season with some lovely seafood lunches with all these great fish that everyone has been catching to be on the menu.I'm lucky enough to have a good group of friends, some really great mates & a l
  6. I've only got a Sol 2000 with 10lb braid on it. They're bloody great in my opinion, the 4000 would be great for snapper or on a medium weight neach rod. They're a few bucks to buy but well well worth it I reckon.Cheers.
  7. The weather looks great for tomorrow.I'll be kayakking it for Squid, Whiting ... and Snapper (????)I'll keep my eye out for a bloke on the beach near Brighton.Cheers.
  8. A Victorian wouldn't know what to do with a rum can. You people over there all drink warm Stones Ginger Wine don't you?
  9. Nice buy! You'll be hard pressed to find a better quality bit of gear for the price.Well done.
  10. I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to these things, I haven't used them much. They have an eyelet on each end, I see many photos with the assist hook secured to the top eyelet along with the clip-swivel or knot to the leader. Does anyone put hooks on the bottom eyelet when "jigging"? Or is this eyelet intended to have a hook on it only for trolling or "luring"?Cheers.
  11. Gee, from the sounds of it, there's a few people here who have NEVER fished anywhere other than South Australia.I wonder how many Territorians scowl when they see SA numberplates on trailers at boatramps around the Top End.
  12. I have heard the same about Shimano parts too. Though with a reel of this caliber, you wouldn't expect to be needing parts for a LONG time.Between the 2 reels, I couldn't offer any advice at all. They're both top notch pieces of gear. I have a mate who has both and they're unreal. I think you'd be buying well with either one - If you spend $300 grand on a Porsche of a Ferrari you're gonna get a hot car either way.Cheers.
  13. I've heard of plenty of things being caught in there, but caught by me personally: nothing.
  14. Wow.Come to think of it, I've hooked squid in the past on a diving lure, I just never imagined it happening with a popper.Lucky I didn't lose $1000 that I don't have.Cheers.
  15. Gday.I can't imaging that Squid would go for surface lures.I've found that Squid will take the ubiquitous imitation Prawn jig near the surface, but more often than not it has occurred after they've followed it - or another jigged squid - up from close to the bottom.I'd love to see it happen though and would definitely NOT put $1000 on a bet that it will never occur.Cheers.
  16. Gday.I had a good look at both the 4000 and 6000 Thunnus CI4.For me it's definitely going to be the 6000. The weight difference between a 4000 Baitrunner D and a 4000 Thunnus is close to stuff all, however the difference between a 6000 Baitrunner D and a 6000 Thunnus is quite marked. They're not exactly cheap so I'll just sit on my hands for a little while before I blow my dough but it's high on the list.Cheers.
  17. Gday.I too am looking at maybe getting a Thunnus CI4, either a 4000 or a 6000.Does anyone have any other thoughts on these things?I'm going to have a play with them at one of our metro tackle outlets this arvo, I'll post up my thoughts.Cheers.
  18. Thanks for the replies Strikehookers!I'll pore through your info and see what I come up with.I'll be taking both light and heavy gear to fish from the beach, rocks or jetty. If I get there, expect a good report on my return (I mean "good" as in comprehensive, not necessarily "good" as in lots of big fish). Thanks again.Cheers.
  19. Gday.I might soon be being presented with my first opportunity to visit the great KI.Thankfully I can't be slapped through a computer (yet) but wait for this...I'm not taking my kayak. Instead, I'm taking the missus and her mother! All sarcasm aside, I've not been to KI before and it will not purely be a fishing trip but there will certainly be a line being wet daily though.Does anyone have any hints/tips/suggestions regarding the island?Places to fish? Species to target? Accomodation?Getting there is a bit of a bummer isn't it? $418 return for 1 sedan with 3 adults in it! Holy moley. On the top
  20. Gday.Anglers Choice do give good advice.Regarding Baitrunners: I've got a big one and I love it, but only for heavy fishing.Regarding Stradics: I've got a 3000 and I love it too. 8lb braid is a great compromise for bream and Mulloway. Just fish it with a very light drag and grip the spool lightly to strike or wind up the drag if you've got lighting hands.I just reckon that a Baitrunner 4500D is a bit big to fish Bream in the Onk. Have you had a look at those Baitrunner 2500FA things? They're a bit cheaper and quite light, might me a compromise there?Good luck with it.Cheers.
  21. Gday. It's finally finished.I've given it a few days for the epoxy to harden, I'll let it have a couple more then it's time for a test run.I've taken a Stradic 3000 from another rod and it seems to be nicely balanced and the colours look ok.Hopefully it'll get me a fish sometime.Cheers.
  22. Exactly what he says!Del: bad luck man, a terrible display of human behaviour.UHF: nice thing to offer, a fantastic display of human behaviour.Cheers.
  23. Gday,Here's a few photos of a work-in-progress that I'm building for myself. I figured it's about time to make myself a rod seeing the others are off elsewhere.I wanted a two piece rod so that I can stick it in hull of my kayak if need be. I wanted it to be light enough for whiting but also have enough guts to tangle with Snapper and Mulloway.I am in two minds of how to bind the female part of where the two pieces join together. There are two photos below, one of the join bound the same as the guides are and another of the join bound only with black thread. Please give me some opinions fellas!
