Brilliant snack size...

Sorry for noob question but what is a snapper/mulloway wing? I've never heard of them before but I'm guessing it has to be the pectoral fin and part of the surrounding area of the fish. But I could be totally wrong

I had to go and talk to a whole family of vietnamese at goolwa a couple of months back. They had a 20L bucket half full of cockles of which I discovered after a quick look were nearly all undersized. They were in the main carpark and there is signage everywhere stating the rules.I HATE how bloody ignorant everyone is, when I spoke to them they didn't care at all. How can you get it through peoples heads? I'm sick of seeing people with undersized fish, killing fish and throwing them back, fishing with 5 or 6 rods per person, leaving metres of line and hooks and bait bags all over the place.End

I find my cuttlefish to be a bit too tender for me. I've heard a heap of people say its too tough but I find it the exact opposite, I can't get it to toughen up when cooking. I think its because I clean them really well and pull off all the membranes.

Yeah I'll never throw a cuttlefish back, always good for a feed. I reckon they are nice but not as tasty as squid. Most people I know wont keep them as they can me hard and messy to clean. I find after a bit of practice it can be totally cleaned in less than 2 minutes.

Yeah I think i've decided on the two rods I mentioned earlier. Until I become a little less clumsy I'm going to avoid graphite but I can most certainly see myself getting one or two in the future. Just have to work out where to order them...Cheers again

I've tried to use poppers at browns but i find i can't cast them far enough to be of use. Can you get ones that cast further? It could be quite a lot of fun for salmon

Its hard to tell with browns, one day its on and the next its not. I fished with my mates on one night and we were the only 3 on the whole beach and we ended up with around 20 and we released about 15. The next day there were about 12 people on the beach and you could see the school but no one even got a bite the whole day or night. Next night was the same too...Browns still is my favourite spot to fish for salmon, not a fan of the walk down near the end though.

Haha thats great, i've done that before whilst salmon fishing. I left the big blue protective cap on for about 20 minutes of casting before I realised Also I've forgotten the bungs in my mates dingy too...

Yeah i see them everywhere I dive down south and I've seen them round the bottom of yorkes. They eat the algae that grow around the rocks.

They are herbivorous so not really that common a catch I suppose. I see them heaps when I dive, a very common fish around SA.

Yeah i totally misread the post clearly not TLD! So is the size of the TLD about the same as the one in the video? I've never seen one in the flesh

What size is the reel he used? it looks tiny... Its not the TLD25 is it?

After reading that I now have wings out to defrost will make that for tea tomorrow night. Cheers

Yeah I always cut that bit of cartilage off now, only made the mistake once Everyone I know though throws the wings in the bin, they make great bait and add to the feed when you don't have many squid to cook.

If I were to use the wings instead of tubes would they blend just as well? I always take the time to clean the wings as there can be quite a lot of meat there. I'm getting a good stock of them also.... Would cuttlefish work just as well?

cheers crocka79, i'm crawling towards that 38cm mark. I wonder if they hit 50cm... They are good fun to catch on light gear but mine was tearing line off the reel

Sounds cool. With that reel and rod what do you usually target? and what line do you have on it?

@fishnfreak, how much is the tyrnos30? I would be very keen to shark in the kayak, especially if it is with other like minded people. Will just need to get used to kayaking first. Then I'll be out in it as often as I can fishing for what ever I can get my mits on

Caught a new PB squid today over the moon with it! Measured 35cm, will post up a pic later. Nearly at the elusive 38...

Can never win, now I don't have money... Fishing is THE biggest money pit, followed closely by the missus ;D

Sorry its taken so long to reply but this site hasn't worked for me for around 3 or 4 days. Cheers Spotter but due to some unfortunate circumstances I now am very low on money so it looks as if all gear I need to purchase is on hold until some money comes in...
