  2. Roger I know where those spots are and who sunk them off seventh creek. I'll send you an email
  3. I would've thought 30km offshore was a tad too far for a new boatie. You'd need all of the safety gear such as EPIRB, parachute flares etc. The waters offshore from O'Sullies Ramp can be extremely rough as the swell pushes straight up the middle of Investigator Straight from the Southern Ocean whilst that swell mixes with tidal movement and sea coming into the Gulf from Backstairs Passage. I wouldn't recommend anyone venturing out that far unless they had a reasonable sized boat and experience to handle their boat in rough waters
  4. You'll get good sized ruggers out from Edwards Street at Brighton at this time of year... head close in and motor out till you hit the reefy bottom. Try late in the arvo on the last of the tide. Same goes for the Seacliff Reef further out or close in front of the Marino Fish and Chip Shop at Marino or the reefy stuff around the BlackbirdBest time is on a full moon, calm weather and dirty waterUse fish flesh for bait and plenty of berleyI could be more specific with spots but the best part of fishing is the hunt and then the capture!!
  5. Ranger wrote: Why do the dogs have to suffer when YOU'RE the one with the problem?Bugger! I should've kept the treadmill and tied them up to it  Yep! I'm out the door in the morning just after sun up to give them a run out in the paddocks
  6. Apparently Smoked Fish causes cancer.... (just thought I'd throw that in  )Die happy with a smile on yer dial fellas'.... life is too shortI've cut back on beer (only 1 glass a day now)and have started eating plenty of fruit and also cereal from brekky instead of a Mc Chunder coffee on the way to work. I didn't like the treadmill workout so just about to test out a rowing machine instead, I reckon I could enjoy that workout a lot more than the running bizzo, also the dogs have had a walk each arvo for the past 3 days (they're probably wondering what the hell a dog walk is )I'm f
  7. How about a good ol' fashioned English greasy "Fry Up"..... that oughta' cheer you blokes up :woohoo: :S
  8. Yep! it's the best flavoured fish I've ever eaten smoked with that sawdust. It'll be very popular when the word gets out. I've been smoking snapper with the stuff and I took some fillets and snapper wings to work. Now each week I get asked by individuals when I'm bringing some more into work. Everyone loves the flavour :woohoo:
  9. Marlin = 6 ciggiesbig tuna = 3 ciggieskingfish = 2 ciggiessnapper = 1 ciggieTyke... it all depends on how many ciggie breaks you can fit in to get your fish aboard on the charter boat :stir: :icon_lol:
  10. :icon_lol:When I'm ot doing it :DI'd be careful with using woodworking machinery, the blades may have a few toxic substances upon them + a lot of wood has arsenic in it so if the machine has chewed a lot of wood???Yep! the easiest way is to get Tyke to fillet your fish for you  :icon_lol:
  11. When you use a bandsaw you can get bone dust over your cutlets.I used to scale and turn the fish into cutlets by cutting with a sharp knife down to the backbone and then get a bigger knife and locate the nearest joint between the backbone and then cut thru' there with the big knife and then slice thruth flesh on the otherside of the fish with the sharp knife. These days I find the quickest way is to fillet down oneside with the scales left on and then skin that fillet and then slice out the lateral bones, next cut the fillet into slabs
  12. Even Murray Cod are cannibals (a 1.2 metre long Cod swallowed a 60 cm Cod, and released back into the River near Swan Hill)
  13. I had 1 of those leaflets placed on my windscreen at O'Sullies a fair while ago.Try giving John Winslet Fishing Tuition a call as he can teach you local techniques and give you real fishing spots in this Gulf to fish that already have been proven by many previous clients (some of which have posted on this site)Personally, I'd be very carefull with the above course if it involves going out on his boat as the boat would have to be in survey and the skipper would need at least a coxswains certificate as income is being derived from the use of the boat. However, if it was only a shorebased course
  14. I reckon he heard about those snapper being caught from the end of the jetty a couple of months ago ;D
  15. I took my wife's cousin out again before he heads back home to NSW and this time we had Tyke along also to enjoy the action for the morningWe bagged out on biggies with half a dozen ruggers. Our biggest went 26 1/2 pound
  16. Nice fish Chuckie, you always achieve what I'm still yet to achieve :icon_e_sad:
  17. Nice one MWilson, it sure is a goodsized snapper
  18. My wife's cousin phoned up from the NSW Mid Nth Coast wednesday to see about coming over and hooking him up on some big snapper. I told him to get over here as soon as possible so he was on our doorstep friday morning ready to hit the snapper saturday morning along with my mate in his boat. I wanted to get him onto some decent size fish whilst he was here so the pressure was on deciding which spot to hit..... anyway, we hit the water with quite a strong easterly blowing up but decided to push on anyway. The crew on board had a blast hooking up to some decent fish with many bustoff's. Bigg
  19. BobC, check your private messages. I've sent you the location of the AdonisCK is correct, there's not a great deal left
  20. Rick is retiring... there's a new bloke in there now
  21. Tony.... no taking of goats upstream of the Bridge in the upper reaches of the Patawolonga (or was that onkaparinga) between September and November :icon_e_surprised: :icon_lol:
  22. Howdy Rob... it looks like the replies are a bit quiet :icon_e_surprised:So I'll recommend what I use and those that have met and used my (fishing) rod to haul in snapper :icon_e_smile: would back me up in saying the Penn Sports 6601 matched to an overhead filled with some decent mono such as the Platypus super 100 20lb (go for some mono as the elasticity will ensure you stay hooked up as opposed to braid where there is no give and you'll easily pull their dentures out) this is a killer fishing rod for snapper of any size and should be registered with the coppers as a lethal weapon :icon_lol:
  23. are you missing one tako :oNo! it was many years ago I saw the goat
  24. Nope.. definitely not.... over the years I've seen dead dogs, cat's and a goat float past my boat moored in there :icon_e_surprised:
