on the review YD1
I had basic polarized sunnies for sometime but find I still squint a bit when around water.
So with some left over $ from last Chrissy/b-day I'm going splurge out and get some 'better' ones.
Quite a few good brands out there and obviously everyone suit/likes a special type and I've never seen the sense in spending so much on sunnies.
Yes, you can get some much, much cheaper but I might as well that cost towards the dearer.
For me atm, I've narrowed it down to an Oakley Split Shot Deep Water Prizm (was thinking the shallow water ones but may not do as I want).
Normally around $295 but with 30% off this Thursday brings them down to $206.
Hope they will do the job for me lol

yellow door 1 reacted to FLOATMAN in DIY FRESHWATER TACKLE
Hi fellas... As you know I am a float fisherman predominately, but not always, whenever I use a float and the majority of the times that I do, I fish the bait just touching bottom, but not too much over depth, so I need to know exactly how deep my swim is.To measure this I use a PLUMMET , of course I make my own, as they are so easy and cost virtually nothing. As you can see by the photo I start with a sinker/bomb with a swivel in the end, the end is cut off with a hacksaw. I grab hold of a champagne cork (which I obtain from an alcoholic friend of ours) and cut a small section off from the reconstituted cork end (you can use the natural cork end but it's not so resilient). I stick this centrally to the end of the bomb with two part epoxy glue and wait till it goes off. Then it is a simple job to sand the cork to the contour of the bomb with sand paper or on the grinding wheel. Job finished... to use the PLUMMET go through the swivel ring with the hook and float (already attached to the line) and simply stick the hook into the cork, cast out and adjust the float until you get the required depth, take the PLUMMET off and add the final weights to the rig to make the float "cock" properly. Never seen them sold in Australia, but why would you buy one when they are so easy to make.
If any one wants to know how to set a float to 25mm to the depth of the water let me know and I will explain...

About 20 years ago I did a side by side test with spotters and my servo sunnies - my servo sunnies were much better at penetrating the waters depths in the Yarra - So I havent spent over $30 on a pair of sunnies Since.
I'm currently using the KastKings which could be bought for between $25 and $12. But I cant find this model online anymore - Lucky I stocked up and got 3 spare pairs when the price dropped to $12.

Pretty drawing Yellow Door
Yeah, that could have helped but it just seemed to be a random big tangle. Previous to changing to a lighter line there was an odd very small tangle that usually came undone with a jerk of the rod. But the lighter line caused big issues.
Went to Bunnings today to get some clear tubing to hold line on float. Tubing was either too small to fit on shaft or too big which would slip off.
Purchased some electrical cable and took the wiring out - line still slips through too easily, so looks like I'll need to put a couple of half hitches of line to the shaft to hold on.
Not my preferred way, but it will work.

They look slick Doobie
WHen you mention problems with tangles and light line it struck a chord with me.
I had very similar problems when trying to cast really heavy floats on light tackle.
I found that casting in a large loopy arc and 85% power really help get rid of tangles - this sort of cast wasnt possible on my light bream outfit so I started casting with 14lb pound braid and a snapper stick - that sorted it out.
The overhead cast kept everything in alignment and sorted out my issues.
This may not be relevant to your rigs but I thought it would be worth mentioning - the loopy cast at nearly full power was the answer to my problems
