  1. Hey ppl, I too am a barefoot fisherman but I absolutely would not use carpet.. It is hard to keep clean, needs to be hung up to dry properly,it smells & holds moisture/dampness which are the enemies of wooden floors. If you must lay something on the floor use rubber matting that can be rolled up to clean under, has good non-slip properties,is soft under foot & can be lifted easily to allow what`s underneath to dry as well. Paramount-Browns have a pretty good range. Personally I like coatings that are non-slip on the floor, so I`d go with Moggy`s sand coating given you can`t get the rub
  2. I still handline everything, where possible that is. Foul Bay in 100ft of water for example,is a little impractical when the tide`s ripping coz you`ll need a kilo of lead to hit bottom. That`s how I learnt to fish, fished that way as a commercial hook fisherman & still fish that way. Much quicker than rod fishing, & time is money when you`re doing it for a living. Cheers.
  3. You`ll need to be having a look around those areas if using the numbers posted as they are pre the random error factor switch off. Could be as much as 500m out in any direction. Cheers.
  4. The gps no`s for that spot are from the book GPS MARKS IN S.A. & are pre the random error factor turn-off so could be out by up to 500m in any direction. My book also says it is reefy bottom, no mention of a large rock. Cheers.
  5. 6" Martiini for around $30. Green rubber handle with sturdy plastic sheath. Holds a Superb edge, & easy to keep sharp with a Furi sharpener set. Most times just needs touched up on a butchers steel. Cheers.
  6. Hey ppl, I haven`t heard any more on the subject.
  7. Hey ppl, TB, have to say I`m staggered, shocked, surprised & impressed. Having been both sides of the fence it is distressing to see those individuals that are doing the right thing get a bum wrap, I can wear criticism that is justified, & I will condemn those that are doing & have done the wrong thing in an instant. As for the "science", well I just don`t believe that the Gov`t of the day will ever present/is capable of the truth whether it be about the Desal Plant or anything else. If it suits their agenda they will lie about it,mis-report it,fabricate it,or distort it. TV station
  8. What the hell took you so long TB, chucked in some berley & you came in hook line & sinker mate. Now what makes you think that my post was aimed at you? :woohoo: :woohoo:
  9. And here I was believing that everything bad that ever happened in the gulf was the fault of the damn commercial fishermen. What the hell was I thinking.

    GPS CONVERTING

Evening all, as far as I`m aware the Greg James books use WGS84 datum so there is no need to convert anything. If you are referring to the set of no`s 35 01'06" 138 29'07" it is displayed as degrees/ minutes/ seconds. ie 35 degrees 1 minute 6 seconds. If you want to change the format /way it is presented you have to divide the no . of seconds by 60 (60 seconds in a minute) , so in the second set of no`s 138 degrees 29 minutes 7 seconds, divide 7 by 60. Answer is 0.16666 which when rounded to 3 figures (which is the accuracy used by most gps units) is 0.167, & so the the format is now expr
  11. Evening ppl, I use & highly recommend the "Furi Tech Edge Pro", three stage sharpening system. Fantastic bit of kit. Absolute simplicity to use & I can shave the hair off my skin with every knife I sharpen on it. Cheers.
  12. All good TB,having re-read all of it I did go overboard & I concede in the state the offence was committed he was technically not a REC FISHO at the time, I also accept that you were not advocating media tampering/censorship. Likewise I will attempt to fish & chill more. Apologies ppl.
  13. Yeah, "U4L" I do get it. I have buried the hatchet with TB elsewhere, as he has conceded some of the stuff he posted was not exactly correct or written poorly as well. Cheers.
  14. Evening all, OK. Prepared to concede that in the state the offence took place he is not a rec fisherman coz he did not hold a rec fishing licence but he was prosecuted for failing to get a rec fishing licence, & yes "U4L" the word "poacher" is spot on. I don`t agree that aspersions were cast on Rec Fisho`s however. I also don`t see how Rec Anglers were portrayed in an unfavourable light in the article when all that was said is that breaches will result in serious outcomes. Nor do I see how you can take offence at being "lumped in with a crim". If a man is booked for whatever crime you feel
  15. Hey ppl, my contention is the article was factual, he was a "man". He fished, so he`s a fisherman, & he did not hold a commercial licence at the time. SO HE IS A RECREATIONAL FISHERMAN at that point, correct or not? Then comes the offending, which makes him a criminal as well. So what the hell do you classify him as that won`t offend other sections of society, by TB`s logic if you call him a "person" then women will be offended & so on & so on. What TB is trying to gain support for (Action against the media as he put it) is story tampering/media censorship & contravenes my &am
  16. SO TB, was that a yes,you did say we should "HAVE A LEGITIMATE CASE AGAINST THE MEDIA",does that not mean you think your reputation has been harmed by that story & you think you should be compensated for it? YES OR NO. Don`t beat around the bush or try to divert/beat up what I said & you said. THE STORY WAS ENTIRELY FACTUAL. It stated what he was prosecuted & jailed for TRUTHFULLY. YES OR NO. Straight answer, no more politician type ducking & weaving. YES OR NO.!!!Cheers ppl.
  17. Evening ppl, TB you are unreal. these are your words are they not? "Shouldn't we as recreational fishing stakeholders who seek to remian legal in our actions and public perception have a legitmate case against the media or any fisheries department who press releases such definitions?" YES or NO. You feel your image, integrity & ethics were questioned by the story saying the "man" was a RECREATIONAL FISHERMAN? HE WAS PROSECUTED FOR NOT HAVING A RECREATIONAL LICENCE,EXCEEDING REC BAG LIMITS, fishing in a prohibited zone, & breaching court imposed orders for the same offences previously.
  18. Evening ppl, TB, don`t try & wiggle out of it by diverting the subject, yes the guy is a criminal but he is also a RECREATIONAL FISHERMAN. You tried to imply that all rec fishers are somehow damaged by the story & should be able to get compensation (on the other website) for the manner in which it was reported. Hooey, by that logic then all "men" should be angry & deserve compo coz their integrity & ethics have also been questioned by the story not saying "person" instead of man? And I`m the one with "Strawman argument". Have said it before & will say it again, "There ar
  19. The article said "man" jailed for abalone theft did it not? It did not say commercial fisherman jailed for abalone theft which I`m sure it would have had he been commercial. So if he wasn`t a commercial fisherman HE WAS A RECREATIONAL FISHERMAN WAS HE NOT ? and he was fined/jailed for fishing without a rec licence, exceeding the rec limit, taking abalone from a prohibited zone & breaching court ordered penalties for the same offences. END OF STORY. It was reported CORRECTLY.
  20. Afternoon all, come on TB, I know you`re anti everything commercial but be "objective". The laws that he broke were fishing without a RECREATIONAL licence, fishing in a prohibited area, exceeding the RECREATIONAL catch limit & breaching previously imposed court orders for the same offences. Geez, man you been watching too much Democrat hype from America or something. They claimed this morning that Republicans attacking Susan Rice, the UN ambassador, for her incompetence for putting out a phoney/doctored report about what went down at the Libyan embassy where the American ambassador & 3
  21. Evening all, think the record for this species is upward of 7kg, given the hassle we had getting the horse in the piccie aboard without a net I can only dream of getting one that weighs a third more than this mother. Thanks Moggy. Cheers.
  22. Evening all, I keep my snelled kgw (smaller ) hooks on a plastic snelled hook holder. Spring loaded hooks at one end to take the loop of your snelled hook & a triangular hole at the other end to take the hook, has a number of rows to allow for a bit of differing length. I write on them in texta, what size hook, what breaking strain line, whether Heavy Duty (for Foul Bay size kgw) or S/S (stainless steel) etc. (Pic`s 1,2,3) Then the snelled hook holders (that can hold 10 hooks on either side go into a plastic water tight tackle box that can hold about 8 snelled hook holders comfortably. (Pi
  23. Hey ppl, I only ever use one hook in the shoulder about half an inch behind the head/body join & about an eighth of an inch under the skin, swim around like crazy all night if the mullies don`t get `em. Then you can release `em to fight another day if they don`t get chomped on. Works for me. Cheers
  24. Evening all, had a report of 4 tuna landed (from 10 hook-ups) on Saturday about 10km from the Pages towards "Furniss" area (don`t know if that is correct spelling). Cheers.
  25. Hey ppl, positively/definitely not a blue devil. Cheers.
