    Hey Guys

Even though many will poo poo the idea these days, dont overlook Fireline or Fireline Crystal for a good cheap braid (gelspun) to get you started.

    Hey Guys

1000-2000 is perfect! I'd suggest around 1500-2000 for a decent line capacity, making a more versatile outfit.Start with 6lb braid, as when you go lighter you will experience issues with wind knots (maybe further down the track you can go down to 3 or 4 lb).Start with 4, 6 and 8lb leader. Tie on 6lb, if the fish are finicky go down to 4lb, if in heavy structure go up to 8lb.You can get any number of decent outfits quite cheap these days. Look for a rod around 7', IM 8 (graphite content) either 1-3 or 2-4kg, which will be a good match for the little reel.Be careful. Although these rods are quit
  3. Maybe the fish didn't quite crack the metre, but I gotta tell ya, if you've got a missus that will come out with you, in wet weather, to sit in a canoe and net your fish...........you've certainly got one keeper! Well done on the c&r, and I look forward to video of the next!
  4. We all know the moon influences the tides and the fishing, plus the best times to fish are a new moon or a full moon.Tonight the moon is closer and brighter than it has been or is gonna be for umpteen years, so I've just been sitting back contemplating what effect tonights moon will have on the fishing.I'd be most interested in your thoughts, and I'd also like to hear from anyone who was out there tonight, and how you think the fishing compared.
  5. I confuse easily! How could you have been watching the "brag board" for awhile when it's not available to site guests and you've only just joined the site? Care to drop the staff a line and share who you are, or who we know you as?
  6. Interesting first post, telling us how to do our jobs.Feel free to put up your pictures and conversations on biggest snapper then, and get the topic back on track!
  7. Well if ya do it anything like me..........you're gonna starve! I need to get the boat wet soon, so we'll organise a day out around the structure, and I'm sure you'll do just fine!
  8. There is no minimum size on the little rock crabs, bearing in mind that you cannot take anything from an "intertidal zone".I rig them by sticking the hook in the back of the carapace by the rear leg, and coming out the other side by the other rear leg.You will get less bites using crab, but generally larger fish.
  9. Dont be silly, that woulda left a huge hole where it used to be!
  10. Coz my mobile coffee lounge and gin palace is BETTER than home!
  11. GOLF??? In ineffectual attempt to direct an uncontrollable sphere into an inaccessible hole with instruments ill adapted to the purpose!A coupla quiet days out at Burra Gorge for me, in fact, I'm already loaded and raring to go! I have wine, whiskey, cheese selection, espresso machine, nuts, bbq, firewood/brazier, aircond, TV/DVD, shower, toilet, fridge/freezer, microwave, generator, and all the modern conveniences of home neatly contained in one tidy package!Hi ho Pajero.........AWAY!
  12. I was of the belief that to obtain ANSA tags, you need to be part of an organised angling association.Maybe contacting ANSA themselves is the best way to gain the information you require: http://www.ansa.com.au/
  13. Sounds to me like something along the lines of a late night drunken bonnet surfing expedition gone horribly wrong. There's always larrikans out in that carpark doing burnouts and carrying on!

    Kats Zoo Date

Always be wary of the big cats when they turn to walk away.....and lift their tail in the process. They squirt backwards quite accurately, and nothing smells quite like feline urine!
  15. I purchased a 9' Heartland for a similar purpose (flats fishing) used it once at West Lakes, and I really didnt like it(I was casting light lures and plastics, not weights). It's just too long for me, and I would prefer something up to around 8' max, as I didn't feel I had the control I was seeking, so it's a new rod which just lives in the corner now attracting dust. I would expect the Tierra to be very similar. This of course may just be my own personal opinion, as I'm sure others are quite happy with them.
  16. Leader/trace are just different words for the same thing.Leader is just a higher quality line which generally comes on shorter rolls (50 or 100m).I prefer a longer leader, also around a rod length, so that the leader knot sits just short of the reel when I'm ready to cast. After tying a few dirrefent jigheads during the course of the day, naturally the leader length with shorten as the day progresses, and I always tie a new leader at the commencement of a days fishing.
  17. I watched the big match replay, and here's what the experts had to say:
  18. In that case, with the relatively low cost of handheld units here, I'd look at purchasing just a GPS without maps, and know that I have a warranty which will be honoured in Aust if there's ever a problem with the unit.
  19. Personally I'd be using a waterproof GPS designed for the purpose, not a mobile phone app.If you get a GPS from the states with mapping, make sure it comes with the Aust map, and remember GPS units also incur an importation tariff in Australia, so add about another 5% to the price (from memory).
  20. Ditto! I also like to add some diced sour dill pickles.
  21. Sounds to me as if it's suffering from what the technicians call "r**ted drag washers" and I'd be willing to bet that the drag has been left tightened down at some stage and has compressed the washers. If I'm correct it's no big deal and a few bucks will have them replaced and good as new.
  22. Members sharing their knowledge and freely helping other members! :cheer: On behalf of the site staff, can I offer thanks for this undertaking to assist site members in a few little bait collecting tips many would like to learn.
  23. I'm still using a Garmin 12 which some guy on a wooden ark with a big white beard and lots of pets lent to me!
  24. Personally, I haven't seen a bad one yet! All the little handhelds store you marks and put you on the spot every time. Difficult to make a bad choice, so I'd just look at features and ease of operation.
