  1. But unlike Jenny, I have no need to push my views/lifestyle onto everyone else, so no need to constantly attempt to get it into newsprint and everyone's faces!
  2. Didn't the holy christian bible even make reference to us feeding on the fishes and the loaves? Does Jenny put her own views above and against the holy scriptures and christian teachings? I wonder if Jenny saw animals suffering, just as one example, maybe the KI Koalas, slowly starving and also dying from the koala retrovirus, would she want them put out of their misery.........something which also goes directly against her own ideals of us interfering with animals or killing animals............I think Jenny is cruel and heartless! Maybe I am a meat eater and a hunter....so what! I'm also
  3. It's just Jenny Moxham! Read any animal based story in the newspapers, and you will find letters to the editor from her on the subject, condemning anyone who isn't a vegetarian, vegan or animal liberationist!Do not send her an email, as you will find it impossible to talk sense or reason with her. She is blinded by her own views and will not entertain or listen to any voice which disagrees with her. She's an animal rights activist who constantly writes letters to newspapers, promotes being vegetarian and claims to be a poet with her animal rights poems.I dont let things like that get under my s
  4. Ok, try this then for a more sensitive constitution! No head, no guts, no eyeballs, no tentacles.
  5. No, guts are removed. The Chinese use the ink to make a sauce, also the Greeks and Italians use the ink in pasta.
  6. Just for the record, it doesn't have to be cooked!Give squid sashimi a go too!
  7. My own suggestion would be to use the resources, knowledge and commitment already in place! We already have SARFAC committee, with an office, with experience, with commitment, with the networks already in place, and with the required expertise. If things were to ever change to a combined regulatory/representative body/association my first thoughts would be to approach Gary Flack and the SARFAC group, and put our support behind them as the logical choice. This would simply mean a restructure to their current methodology, to play a much larger role in the future of recreational fishing for this sta
  8. I am certainly in favour of:A range of policy demandsPublic narrativeEnvironmental issuesAccountabilityWe would be silly and irresponsible not to!I would also agree that we have a definate need for networking between angling groups and clubs, and importantly, a peak angling regulatory/representative body, to represent the voice of the anglers themselves. The policy demands, environmental issues and accountability would then show US to also be a conservation group, caring for the resource we utilise, sustaining the resource, and leaving us free from the need for further external regulation or in
  9. I've owned many different outfits over the years, and I was pretty unimpressed with the Catana.Berkeley Dropshot is another cheapy which would be suitable, but for my money I would agree with TonyB and lean towards the (6'8") Rack Raider or (7'2") Bream Finnesse as a good, hard wearing and gutsy rod, while still being cheap and easy to find. These rods are a little heavier than either the Catana or the Dropshot, but as a first rod they will stand up to the knocks and bumps a little better, being far less fragile, and they are capable of muscling some much larger fish out of tight structure.
  10. Mono backing or electrical tape around the spool so that it doesn't slip, and spool it tightly under tension. It might be best to get the tacklestore to spool it with bulk braid, so that the spool is completely filled, and that will save you trying to guesstimate how much line you will need.
  11. So it's a species of black tipped reef shark (Carcharhinus tilstoni), hybridised with another species of black tipped reef shark (Carcharhinus limbatus).Maybe not as sensational as the reporter from The Australian would have us believe, and Black tipped reef sharks are already known to show large variations in genetic make-up.From my own little knowledge on the subject, hybridisation amongst species is nothing new, and it happens commonly with many different animals. Just look at your own breed of pet dog, or your coloured budgies. In fact, if I were to ever mate with my wife, our offspring wo
  12. I just went to look at that link, but unfortunately it contains little information....in fact, none more than the two sentences you have already posted."Hybrid sharks swarming east coast" sounds very sensationalised, but no real supporting information of any kind has been provided.I would be very interested to read a more detailed and factual report if anything is available.
  13. Prior to spooling, we need to know if its a threadline or an overhead reel, as they are both spooled differently.
  14. In addition to the visibility issue, a mono or more preferably a flouro leader is essential for abrasion resistance. If the braid touches a rock, barnacle, even fish gill plate it WILL snap.Forget the idea of swivels. You do not need that extra weight on the line when lure fishing, and a swivel will not pass through the rod guides for casting.Everyone has their own preference for leader knots, experimentation will denote what works or what doesn't work for you.I normally fish a 6lb braid for bream, I also start with a 6lb leader. In heavy structure I may upgrade to an 8lb leader, when fish are
  15. That leader knot is really important. Two of my favourites are the double uni and the albrights. Albrights is very easy to tie, is also a very small knot and is good for joining lines of differing thicknesses. It may pay you to practice up on this as one of your first knots if you intend to stick with braid.Click here to view knot: http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-tie-albright-fishing-knot-250565/Listen to the guy in the tacklestore, coz he's on the money. Many of us here tend to forget after awhile that others may be just starting out, and when you get into the really light braids (ie: 4lb o
  16. Forget the idea of a swivel if you are lure fishing. The leader is tied directly to the braid, while the leader and knot passes through the eyelets of the rod.The guys in the tacklestore know their stuff, so you can guarantee that it's a braid friendly reel and that it was also spooled tightly. The problem with fishing soft plastics and light lures is that after a few casts, and the subsequent retrieval of very light lures, the braid does start to loosen on the spool, and this is when the knots start appearing. It's important that every few minutes you retrieve the lure with the line held tightl
  17. I dont have an "onboard" compressor, although that would certainly be my first choice.Instead I use a portable unit which hooks directly to the car battery...........I also made a point of purchasing a "heavy duty" portable unit of decent quality, as some of the cheaper ones really wont cut the mustard, especially with the higher pressure LT tyres. You'll find the cheapies will overheat and invariably die on you before they've seen too much use.I also use a decent tyre pressure guage, and only use the one on the compressor as an "indicator". A set of Staun deflators is also a handy addition, s
  18. We do have SAFFA members here, and from memory I believe "Rollcast" to also be a committee member from the club.Should you fail to get a reply, consider also directing your questions to SAFWAA mambers, as we also have quite a few of them here, who may be able to assist with some advice pertaining to fly fishing and fresh water.
  19. Mine's an NK, 1996. None of the above problems, in fact it's been a sweet and reliable ride. No alternator issues, no harmonic balancers falling off, no major mechanical problems, it's now 16 years old.Only recently have I started having minor problems, which I believe is due to an electrical issue.....and I'd like to thank Moggy for the advice on that one too.The 99 model is an NL.
  20. One very important thing that I failed to mention!I said that the 200,000k service is very important, as is the 100,000k service. If the timing belt ISN'T changed at these major services, they have been known to let go! When this happens the valves can be pushed through the pistons.I have been warned about this many times, and it actually happened to mine prior to me purchasing it!The owner failed to have the 100,000 service performed, at 110,000 the timing belt let go, the engine was trashed, and it resulted in an engine rebuild by Mitsubishi.
  21. Geez Rotare, that's some good input!Much of the criteria you have used is what I myself used in making my own choice:I needed a 4wd for towing a boat and a caravan.I would spend most of my time ON road, so comfort and practicality was a big consideration. I wanted all the mod cons, but I also wanted something suitable for beach driving, dirt tracks and occasional off road jaunts into camping areas, etc.The choice of petrol/diesel wasn't a large consideration for me, instead towing capacity, ground clearance and price were. The petrols were certainly much cheaper than the diesels which budget di
  22. In which case, as I look into my crystal ball I see diff lockers, lift kits, winches, suspension and wheel mods on the horizon..............and a whole lot more than $8-10k being pumped into the equation. PS: I would also strongly agree with seeking an auto for the sand!
  23. When you say "for fishing trips" I can only imagine this means beach driving. If that IS the case, it's got me buggered why everyone is recommending a big heavy Patrol which is gonna bog down.I'd be looking for something small to mid range, which is lighter and nimble. For my money when on a budget I dont recon you could go past a Pajero. The Toyota Surfs I've heard have wiring issues, and it's hard to find one which hasn't been flogged. The 4 runners will definately fit into a budget. The Toyota Hilux is a sturdy workhorse which wont let you down.Actually, if I had to operate on a budget of $8-10
  24. Another vote for Martini. They also have a budget range.......look for the green handles. Still just as good a knife as the more expensive version.
