Depends if its much more $ than inox or similar spray? I give my gear a wipe with inox and it does the job. You don't want too much of an oily residue on reels as it will make the sand stick.

My mate has one of those fin nor reels. He likes it, and I don't think he has had any trouble with it. They are heavy, but sometimes you want a big heavy and strong reel. Can't use these fancy ci4, air rotor, zion body bream reels for everything!!!!!!I know he took braid off his and went back to mono, but I think that was a personal thing, no fault of the reel. Don't know about the rods mate. To me they are a personal choice, you might not like what I do. I would probably check out a Wilson or silstar power tip. Have fun shopping!!

+1 for Kadava's post. I always have tools n a few spare belts/hoses I the bus, so I forgot to mention them, but they would be a good idea to take.

First aid kit and a snatch strap or tow rope would also be good inclusions. It's hard to decide what to take, you need everything because you're in the middle of the desert, but also want to travel light!!Also look at grabbing some frozen bait on the way just to be sure. Depending on your budget the spheros is another reel option. If you've got the money go for the Gosa, but the spheros is just as bulletproof and cheaper.

G'day crew. I'm looking for a light baitcast rod for KGs from the boat. Does anyone on here use a graphite baitcast rod for their whiting fishing?I've had a bit of a look around and Samaki make some rods in the 2-4 and 3-6kg range. This is the same weight range I use for spin gear, so I'm hoping overhead should be the same. Any advice gladly welcomed, and also suggestions in glass rods too. Will only use the rod for whiting and other small species out of the boat. Cheers, rooboy.

Don't live in Adelaide, but when I first heard it was on a Saturday I though it was a bit of bad timing. Even without the Crows and the Show, a lot of people are tied up with sport. Having said that, I hope there is a good turn out.

The old knife handle is definitely a good one. I've also added a twist, or upturn to the ends for a bit more action in the lure. Don't know if it works, or if it's even needed, but I like to tinker around!! You can also use long bean(running) sinkers. Wire through them and hammer the sides flat. I saw this in a magazine somewhere.

Don't own these, but I've had a play in a shop and drooled over them!!Nitro Voodoo. 6'6" 3-5kg but felt like it would handle 12-15lb braid no worries, really felt like it had nuts for a lighter rod. I think they have the reputation of under rating their rods. Bout $330 I think. Or I money is no object, samurai 302. Fast taper, felt nice and looks well finished. Just can't help thinking that at $450-500 there are rods at half the price that would do the same job. But I guess you can say that about most fishing gear!!

Yeah, I reckon soft plastics around 2-4" and metal slices are tough to beat for casting. For trolling we still use metal slices in the 15-30gm size and some old bibbed minnows that I don't know the name of. For the slices I prefer halco twisty and raiders, but I think any would do.Also try your bait unweighted or on a light weight running rig. This can also be cast and slowly retrieved like a lure. Have also caught st and Tommy's on plastic tube on a hook, so when they're on anything will do!!
