  1. Not really sure as I've never been there. Google is suggesting about 120 feet/ 36 metres.
  2. Welcome Larry Off the jetty there have been some Blue Crabs and also along the beach - mainly Southern beach atm. Jetty should have Gar the usual Tommies and some Squid. There has been squid off the breakwater too - probably get some Gar there also. I reckon some YFW along the beaches would be worth trying for too.
  3. And that's the code I want to crack. Not to say the 2 sessions so far weren't fun wading in the shallows and enjoying just being there - but it needs the next level up with the surface lures Sort of similar to the Salmon luring I do, but at the same time very much different. Thanks Territory Lad for taking the time to put that detailed info/suggestions up from your experiences - it certainly has helped me.
  4. Thanks also MikeCatts. I did try one with a blade just to see how it felt - felt/looked good. I've got some Atomic and Topwater lures being sent to me so will see how they go. Only have a sugapen 70mm atm, but only used a swivel so far - using a direct knot next, so hopefully I see a difference. Still, I'm only very new to surface luring with just 2 sessions so far - I can only improve ... hopefully
  5. Thought I was too lol That's the sort of info/recommendation I was looking for with regard to presentation / strike rate as to whether a swivel/clip/direct tie is better. Thanks Territory Lad. Thanks also keenfisho - knowing you've also targeted YF, I thought you'd have some input. So how do you guys go whilst standing in the shallows, if you want to change lures? Or do you just stick with the same 'successful' lure or just suck it up and change it if needed (obviously not changing/re-tying every 15 minutes).
  6. I just came back in from the garage from taking the swivel clip off the line and re-tying to just a clip (size 0) then saw your post - may have to go back out and change back lol He makes sense but I'll see how it goes with just a clip between lure and leader.
  7. It looks like the better way to go using that type of clip by the replies. I presume you mean Improved Clinch Knot / Locked Blood Knot as a basic Blood Knot would slip imo.
  8. Thanks Adrian. Clips/swivels certainly save time in the changing over, just hoping they don't make a huge difference in surface luring compared to having them.
  9. Thanks SurfcaztR for your info. The swivel I have used were small and light, but as a swivel, compared to a clip, 'may' have some interference - but I don't really know (being new to surface luring). With some saying the Loop knot is the 'better' way, I suppose the clip you showed is similar is 'design' with a type of loop look. Thanks HB tragic for your info too. As we know, mono and fluro have their pros and cons. I read it is better to use mono for surface lures as it floats, whereas fluro will sink and could effect 'things'.
  10. I'm in a dilemma and looking for some guidance. My main reason to try and get this right is so the surface lure is performing correctly and not maybe spinning around or upside down etc. I've looked through youtube videos etc to what really is the better way to attach a surface lure to the leader - knot or swivel. I've just started targeting YFW (2 sessions without luck) and read/seen some use a loop knot as it allows to lure to move more natural. Then other people might use a Uni knot and say it works well also .... and the list goes on. Others might say to use a swivel a
  11. Well I tried typing that name out 3 times - gave up and just copy and pasted - who comes up with those names! Looks a great place and love the rock formation. Great write up and photos - thanks for sharing your adventure.
  12. Excellent .... I can catch Gold Fish now by the looks If Gar are near the surface, then yes
  13. doobie

    tuna oil

Yeah .... mainly when I cook Asian dishes --- rate it highly
  14. You should patent them all I do similar - attach a hook onto 'something' for the grip and tighten the line = no more hooks into the fingers
  15. Where's Adrian .. (the wife said) ...under all these heat pads dear .. (says Adrian) That would have definitely helped catch up on your strike rate. I can see you now ...... at them A good variety of catches that would have kept you entertained for the whole session. Great video also Adrian - keep it up and keep using those heat pads
  16. Just did a quick search on here and came across these threads - might help you.
  17. I can't help you unfortunately as never gone out on a charter at all. Hopefully someone here can help and recommend some info soon.
  18. Great footage Adrian and a nice start with the 700g+ trout. Even though the amount of food on the surface for the trout slowed your catches, it's good too see a good food supply readily available atm. Good times ahead though when you see so many followers too - very encouraging for later sessions. (btw, what software do you use for the video/editing etc).
  19. Yep, sadly I haven't caught any YF, mainly because I haven't targeted them lol - but hopefully early 2020 that will change. Any of those beaches would be ok and even Kingston Park area - just south of seacliff. Northern beaches more so for success. The incoming for sure and hopefully the yippers are ok - they tend to go soft (well softer) before too long - but they are an ideal bait. I'd go a size 6 hook with running sinker. Bottom hook > running sinker > hook > swivel. 6lb fluro carbon leader if you have it. Good luck.
  20. They are a tasty fish for sure and the butterflying is a good skill to have - the grandparents always knew the best ways to catch and fillet
  21. It's a good video too We stayed in Trinity Beach (just down the road) in June and the whole area is just so nice. When we went up to Palm Cove it was blowing a gale and no-one was fishing on the jetty or beach - so can't help with any info. Trinity had some people fishing the rocks (south of beach), but the short time we walked along there didn't see anyone catching anything - but it was a good sheltered spot from any Easterlies. The beaches seem to have a good drop away, especially at Trinity, only metres out from the beach. At Trinity I saw fish jumping out the water fr
  22. Geez they are dedicated !! A bit like me, bit of wind in the air doesn't stop me
  23. Another great video Adrian. Nice flowing waters and what looks a lovely day to be out in the 'wild' - especially pulling up some nice trout
